Having absolutely no technical awareness at all, I am struggling mightily with this entirely new system as comfort levels have been totally destroyed...and I haven't even done anything but try to configure photos, editing, and Flickr into some kind of coherent pattern which will become my new habitual morning routine. In so doing, I'm getting beeps and buzzers galore attacking me from some unknown universe for no apparent reason; I have to retype everything numerous times due to the new mini-keyboard; and I always seem to end up entering some type of "no navigation" zone in which further progress is disallowed and I have to return to the start.
In any event, I'm sure understandings will be reached within the next millenium. In the meantime, gazing at photos like this and drinking a cup of tea helps to ease the pain. And I promise to quit whining henceforth...;-)

Yesterday Marybeth told me that the swallows were making nests in the barn and kept landing on the fence right outside the door. It seemed like a good time to configure the long lens and see what I could catch. The whole time I was moving about, Snoopy, Marybeth and Brianne's horse, was very interested in what I was doing. He's never really been too interested in me (unless I have a peppermint candy for him) and it seemed odd. Poor guy, it's sad to see him bored, he misses his little pony girlfriend.
Well unlike all the master bird photographers that I follow here on flickr, I generally don't have much patience when it comes to waiting around for a bird to do something interesting. A lot of nothing and I was ready to go back in the house, I looked over at Snoopy and it seemed like he was posing for me so I caught this shot of him. In reality, he was probably hoping I would give him a peppermint candy. When I took a look on the computer I was a bit surprised but 500mm did him pretty good with the soft light of the slightly hazy, smoke filled air.
Second snowy of the year - - but first time with a camera - - and testing a new camera as well - - decided I needed to start practicing with a mirrorless since my 7D MarkII is really starting to wear out.
Amazing how different it is - - many focus systems that you need to configure - - still getting used to having multiple systems on multiple back focus buttons to react quickly to situations.
Large files was a concern - - but the Canon Compressed RAW appears pretty good so far - - and I can take pictures in cropped mode as well - - file sizes can end up smaller than my 7D and yet still have lots of detail.

The sunshine appears to be gone for a bit, great while it lasted but unfortunately I saw little of it lately. Its great to see the Irish countryside bursting at the seams with Summer growth - colours, textures and light are transformed. Every Season brings its photographic challenges. This morning in Co. Westmeath, just after dawn, I was walking by this field. There was a soft breeze blowing the feathered barley heads - it looked like invisible ghosts gliding across the surface. Although barley is beautiful close up, sharp focus would fail to capture the atmosphere here. A hand-held shot, slow shutter speed 1/30, created just enough blur to get close. I tried to shoot rape seed in Meath and Louth a few weeks back, without success Im afraid. I think I prefer the qualities of barley for colour, texture and its subtle movement. I will be watching this field mature in the coming weeks and do the 'Monet' on it.

The cloister is Gothic in style, from the end of the 15th century, and its beauty is due above all to the perfect harmony of its lines and the high quality of the stone carving. The main cloister orders the complex and is configured on two floors. The lower cloister develops through pointed arches, eight on the larger sides and seven on the smaller ones, separated by powerful pilasters that are supported by buttresses inside the garden. The galleries are covered with simple ribbed vaults made of ashlar masonry, with the exception of the plementería, which is made of brick. The ribs of the vault rest directly on the wall without the help of corbels. The upper cloister develops as a porch or lookout, covered with a wooden roof and supported by octagonal stone columns.

Two red shouldered hawks have taken up residence in our backyard, much to the dismay of the local small mammal population. I got lucky with this one flying overhead at the moment that I had my new Sony a6400 correctly configured for an action photo. Next I'll learn how to use that animal eye AF!

The Mathematical Bridge is the popular name of a wooden footbridge in central Cambridge, bridging the River Cam, and connecting two parts of Queens' College. Its official name is the Wooden Bridge. Grade II listed.
Designed by William Etheridge and built by James Essex in 1749. It was rebuilt twice, in 1866 and 1905.
Although it appears arched, it's made entirely from straight timbers configured in tangent and radial trussing.

A view of the east side of Virginia's Courthouse Square looking north on S. Main St. from E. Beardstown St. The most notable building on this block is the former Hotel Mann on the corner. When it opened in 1896, the Hotel Mann was considered an upscale hotel with twenty-five rooms, steam heat, electric lights, and private baths with hot and cold water. The exterior of the building is upscale too, with the upper floors decorated in ornamental sheet-metal panels produced by Mesker Brothers Iron Works of St. Louis, Missouri.
I never found a date when the hotel closed, but I'm certain it was decades ago. The ground floor is now configured as retail space, with apartments now on the second and third floors.

A view of the east side of SW Arch Street as seen from SE Race St outside the Atlanta Public Library. On the corner is the 2-story Union Building. Built in the late 1860s, the Union Building with the with was occupied by a grocery and dry goods store on the ground floor, with a Union Hall (later a Masonic Lodge) on the floor above.
This building is one of the most recognizable in downtown Atlanta due to the 70' x 15' Walldogs mural on its side. During the 1890s, J.M. Judy & Sons operated a grocery store here. Mr. Judy also dealt in Queensware, a popular china pattern of the day, notions, and musical merchandise. The mural is based upon an early photograph of the original J.M. Judy & Sons mural painted on the building's Race Street side.
The Union Building is now configured for office space on the first floor, and as a banquet and special events venue on the second floor.
Next to the Union Building is the Downey Building that houses the Palms Grill Cafe and Atlanta Museum. The Downey Building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004, and will be featured in a separate photo.
Atlanta is a city in Logan County, Illinois. The estimated population of Atlanta in 2019 was 1,600. Atlanta is located on Historic US Route 66.
Last year I was able to find Utah milksnakes in a couple of new counties for me. I already posted one from one of those new counties and this is the specimen from the other new county. I was elated to finally find one in this part of Utah as I had tried to find one there for many many years. Hopefully I can photo document these beautiful snakes in a couple of additional counties this year. I can't wait for Spring!
For this photo I used the built-in focus stacking feature of the Olympus E-M1X. You are able to configure the number of photos to take and how much depth each should be from each other both in front of and behind your focus point. It takes a quick burst of RAW images and then combines them in-camera into a high-quality JPEG. I tried taking those same RAW images and doing focus stacking in Photoshop using the auto-align layers and auto-merge options and didn't get as nice of results. I also tried using the stacking functionality in Luminar NEO and that didn't turn out as nicely either. This was also taken with the camera resting on the rock next to the snake so wasn't totally stable. So I can say that the Olympus focus stacking does a great job.

Our final stop in Delavan is the Masonic Hall building on the southwest corner of Locust and Fourth streets. Constructed in 1875, architect W. A. Corwine of Lincoln, Illinois designed the Queen Anne-style building.
The Masonic Lodge meeting rooms were on the second floor of this building. The first floor of the building was configured with retail and office space. For many years, the front corner of the building was occupied by various dentists, and in the late 1920s, the middle room was used as a movie theater that operated under various names, including the Regent.
Other tenants over the years include the Delavan Home Loan Association, various lawyers, two dry cleaners, a bakery, feed store, plumber, dress shop, and an auto parts store. The Masonic Lodge has moved to a different location and, as far as I could tell, the building now appears to be vacant.
Located in Central Illinois, Delavan is part of the Peoria Metropolitan Statistical Area. Delavan's population at the 2020 census was 1,924. This rural, agricultural community, derives its name from Edward C. Delavan (1793-1871), a wealthy businessman from Albany, New York who devoted much of his fortune to promoting the temperance movement.

Egg Rock Light is a lighthouse on Frenchman Bay, Maine. Built in 1875, it is one of coastal Maine's architecturally unique lighthouses, with a square tower projecting through the square keeper's house.
The light station consists of two buildings, a combination light tower and keeper's house, and a fog station building. The keeper's house is a roughly square 1+1⁄2-story wood-frame building, with a hip roof pierced by dormers on all four sides. The painted brick tower, 40 feet (12 m) high, rises through the center of the house. The light is a VRB-25 aerobeacon, mounted in a 1986 replacement lantern house. It is configured to flash red every 40 seconds. The fog station is a brick structure southwest of the main building, with a gable-on-hip roof.
The light originally was fitted with a fifth-order Fresnel lens. The fog station (originally steam-powered) was added in 1904. The station was automated by the United States Coast Guard in 1976, at which time its ancillary structures except the fog station were torn down. The lantern house was removed and the light was replaced by the present aerobeacon. After public protest, a replacement lantern house was installed in 1986. The light continues to be managed by the Coast Guard, and is not open to the public; the island and buildings are owned by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service. (Wikipedia)

I personally think that a 2.5L engine rolling down the road on two wheels is a bit much but my son thinks differently and the Triumph Rocket is quite an impressive motorcycle and a nice stable mate to his BMW R Nine T. He also thought that I needed to get back into riding so now I have a motorcycle too. A bit smaller, the Street Twin 900 is plenty for me and I've always liked the twin configuration engine layout. The bike is not too heavy and I can keep my two feet on the ground. OK, maybe a bit old school but with plenty of the latest tech features (except maybe cruise control), that's just the way I like it.
Been a bit tied up with researching all the cool motorcycle gear and heading out for rides but I've configured one saddle bag for camera gear so It's all good! And, like photography, the wish like for a motorcycle gets quite long.

Porsche intensely pursued the 1970 and 1971 world championships. The 908/3 (pictured here) was produced to compete in two races: the Targe Florio and Nurburgring. They are twisty, difficult tracks where the 917 size and power were handicaps.
The previous 908s were coupes or spiders. The 908/3 was only ever a spyder.
The engine in this vehicle gave up 65 hp to the 3 liter 312 PB Ferrari rival. However, it employed Piech's feather-weight design. The 908/3 was 100 pounds lighter than the 908/2 due to the use of titanium. The space frame weighed 48 pounds and the body another 26.5!
Just 13 were produced.
The 908/3 provided a one-two finish in 1970 at both Targe and Nurburgring, the races it was designed to win. In 1971 the Targa was lost due to a driver error caused crash. However, the 908/3 finished one-two-three at Nurburgring.
The car shown here was built in 1971 and the frame was not built to specification. The chassis broke during the 1971 Nurburgring race, however, drivers Rodriguez and Oliver were still able to bring the car in 2nd place.
This model's win rate was 75%.
A 1971 configured 908/3 won its last world championship at Silverrstone England in 1980. A decade span of World Championships with the same designed vehicle.

A view of the north side of the 200 block of E. Market St. Of the five buildings facing E. Market St. in this view, the three buildings to the east (right) of the alleyway are contributing properties in the Caldwell County Courthouse Square Historic District listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
The first of these contributing buildings is the Cottonseed Warehouse at 209 E. Market (next to alley). Constructed in 1910, this frame warehouse building with pressed tin facade was built by A. D. Mebane, Lee Beaty, and W. D. French and was used to store cottonseed. The building is currently used as a thrift store.
Next door at 211 E. Market is the Lee Beaty Building. It also was constructed in 1910 by Lee Beaty (one of the owners of the warehouse next door) as a cottonseed warehouse. The building is a one-story brick structure with ornamental brickwork across the top of the building. The central double door entrance is outlined by arched stone trim.
The last of the three contributing buildings is the A. L. Davis Building at 215 E. Market St (northwest corner of E. Market and S. Colorado St.) This structure was built in 1909 for A. L. Davis and was originally used as a grocery store. From this angle it is difficult to see the details of the building due to the view being partially blocked by trees and automobiles.
You may wonder why the two buildings west (left) of the alley were not included in the Lockhart's NRHP nomination form for the Caldwell County Courthouse Square Historic District. Both are attractive buildings today, and are certainly old enough. A partial answer may be found In Lockhart's 1976 application to the NRHP. In that application is a photo of the three contributing buildings and the two properties that were not listed. The building housing El Patio (next to alley) was modified and configured as a garage. Next door, the orange painted square surrounding the exterior windows covered by an awning was also a garage door. Both buildings were painted white at the time, and neither showed much in the way of "curb appeal."
Lockhart, a community of 14,811 at the 2020 census, is the seat of Caldwell County and is located just 30 miles south of the state capital in downtown Austin. Lockhart's square and downtown is filled with late 19th and early 20th century buildings, nearly all contributing properties to the historic district. The city's turn-of-the-century appearance has attracted the attention of film makers. Over 50 films for the theater and TV have been shot in whole or in part in Lockhart, including the 1996 Christopher Guest comedy film Waiting for Guffman and the 1993 drama What's Eating Gilbert Grape.

The hermitage of the Virgen de la Oliva is located in the Spanish municipality of Patones, in the northern part of the Community of Madrid. It was built in the 12th-13th centuries and was attached to the Magisterial Church of Alcala de Henares and today belongs to the Diocese of Complutense, based in the City of Alcala itself. It is in a state of progressive ruin, with risk of landslides. It appears on the Red List of heritage in danger, which the Hispania Nostra association began to prepare in 2006.
The hermitage is in the place known as dehesa de la Oliva, where other places of historical-artistic and geological interest are located, such as the dam of the Pontón de la Oliva and the Reguerillo cave. It is accessed by the road that connects Patones de Abajo, one of the population centers of the municipality of Patones, with the El Atazar reservoir, about five kilometers from the town center.
The hermitage is of Romanesque-Mudejar style, also known as Castilian-Leonese or Romanesque brick Mudejar, although with characteristic features of the rural architecture of the area.
This artistic current originated in the twelfth century in the current province of León and expanded through those of Zamora, Salamanca, Valladolid, Ávila and Segovia, until reaching the northern part of the Community of Madrid and the province of Guadalajara.
In the Madrid region and, more specifically, in the region of the Sierra Norte, there are other buildings built in this same style, among which the Apse of the Miracles, in Talamanca de Jarama.
Of the primitive hermitage only the apse and the initial section of the ship are conserved. The first element cited is configured by a sphere room vault, made in masonry with brick courses, which is attached to the main body by a slightly pointed arch, made of brick. Las características especiales de este espacio natural que le confieren un valor diferencial y han hecho de él objeto de protección son:
Ejemplo de acuífero y surgencia acompañado de pequeñas fuentes dentro de un sistema hidrológico.
Conserva comunidades faunísticas de singular rareza, que constituyen inapreciables muestras de material genético en extremo peligro de desaparición.

I had posted an at image at dusk of the northern face of the Kauffman Center for Performing Arts a few weeks ago, this one taken at night also of the northern face show how the lighting on the silvery segmented stainless steel and acid etched limestone colored precast perpendicular concrete walls create an other-worldly look. The Kauffman Center for Performing Arts is actually two venues, a 1600 seat concert venue designed by a collaboration of Moshe Safdie and the eminent Japanese acoustician Yasuhisa Toyota and an 1800 seat horseshoe configured hall for ballet, opera and theater. Es un edificio de planta baja, dos pisos y cubierta de tejado a doble vertiente. La austera fachada, revestida de morteros y con las ventanas bien alineadas en ejes verticales, alberga el portal principal, acabado en piedra y consistente en un arco de medio punto enmarcado por dos pilastras toscanas que sostienen un entablamento y un frontón triangular con un escudo. Cruzando esta puerta y la crujía que la comprende se accede a un doble claustro barroco definido por cuatro galerías que le rodean. El claustro inferior presenta arcos escarzanos de gran luz que reposan sobre potentes columnas toscanas, mientras el superior está configurado por una delicada galería de arcos de medio punto sobre columnillas toscanas. Los muros de todas las galerías se presentan revestidos con arrimadores cerámicos de plástica neobarroca y con ricos esgrafiados a base de jarrones, volutas y hojas de acanto. También cabe destacar el trabajo decorativo que recogen los forjados de cada galería. Los dos claustros se comunican por medio de una gran escalera de piedra cubierta con bóvedas de pañuelo, en el ángulo septentrional del claustro. La galería occidental del claustro sirve de atrio a la iglesia de Santa Maria de Montalegre.

It is a building with a ground floor, two upper floors, and a gabled roof. The austere façade, covered in mortar and with windows neatly aligned on vertical axes, houses the main entrance, finished in stone and consisting of a semicircular arch framed by two Tuscan pilasters supporting an entablature and a triangular pediment with a coat of arms. Passing through this doorway and the passageway it encompasses, one enters a double Baroque cloister defined by four surrounding galleries. The lower cloister features wide, segmental arches resting on robust Tuscan columns, while the upper one is configured by a delicate gallery of semicircular arches on slender Tuscan columns. The walls of all the galleries are covered with ceramic wainscoting in a Neo-Baroque style and rich sgraffito decoration featuring vases, volutes, and acanthus leaves. The decorative work on the floor slabs of each gallery is also noteworthy. The two cloisters are connected by a grand stone staircase covered with groin vaults, located in the northern corner of the cloister. The western gallery of the cloister serves as the atrium for the Church of Santa Maria de Montalegre.

The Buggy Barn Museum is located Just outside Blanco, Texas. Who knew! The place is really cool. It's like taking a step back in time. Here's what the Internet say:
In the 18th and 19th centuries, the horse--drawn carriage was king. Carriages, designed for comfort and elegance, were reserved for the rich or businesses, such as funeral homes. A public passenger vehicle was called a stagecoach; working four-wheeled vehicles were wagons; and two-wheeled vehicles were carts. But the general terminology for all of these horse-drawn vehicles is “buggy.” Buggies started to disappear as steam engines began to generate interest. Steam power quickly won the battle against animal power and buggies have all but vanished from general use.
Inside there are more than 100 buggies, carriages, and wagons for you to look at -- up close and personal.
The Hearse came from Europe. In the 1860s, it would have been drawn by either two or four black horses, and was known as the Black Brigade. The one on display here is fairly elaborate and most likely was reserved for royalty.
The 1903 Studebaker, the largest of the Rockaway Carriages, had glass enclosures and could carry six passengers.
The Canadian-made Jump Seat Buggy could be configured in two ways -- either with two rows of seats or the front seat could be folded down and the main seat would slide forward over the jump seat, giving the driver more comfort.

There are also many larger wagons outside, including a stagecoach and a Conestoga wagon. The Conestoga wagon was first built by Mennonite-German settlers near the Conestoga River Valley in Lancaster, Pa., in the mid-1700s. GR III #2: This Wednesday I had my first "proper" photowalk with the tiny Ricoh, albeit a small walk with not too many photos (34 – almost like in the good old film days), because it was more of a family meeting at a small lake (we all wore masks) on the south-western outskirts of Berlin. I had decided to only take the Ricoh with me, in order to make myself a little more familiar with it. The shooting experience certainly is totally different from anything I know from my Olys or even the LX100, and I know that I will need some time to get used to it, but I also know already now that this camera is fun. OK, low light focus was very, very capricious (to say the least), but I also put that – and the fact that I missed quite a few shots – down on not having had figured the correct settings out, yet. I have now configured three different user presets (which, very conveniently, can be accessed via the mode dial), one for macro (not the GR III's designated purpose, I know, but macro is important for me), one for street (for starters, I've decided to experiment with Jpg only in order to check out the many film presets - you can even set up your own), and one for architecture / landscape, and I can't wait to go out again and take pictures ;-)
This photo is another kind of street image, because I found these remains of a birch tree at a residential street near by the above mentioned lake. The little oak sprout that obviously has found a new home within the birch stump caught my eye, I hope it will survive and transform the remnants of that once proud birch into an equally proud oak one day. The background had been a black car, not exactly what I'd call the perfect background, but when I imported the images I realised that the metering setting I should have used for my first Ricoh image posted here on Flickr – the flamingo / Pinoccio flower, please see the second comment, if you like – accidentally must have been my exposure metering setting for the entire walk around the lake: highlight weighted metering ;-) So it was easy to "disguise" the car and to process this image in claire obscure / chiaroscuro style. I hope you like it.
