Ostrov North has a quite interesting configuration, with two additional hangars, like Ostrov South. I assume that the two additional Missile hangers were for a “Second Strike Capability”, which was also considered (but abandoned) for a least one silo complex (Nikrace).

However, I only got a few photos from Ostrov North. Someone used the Eastern Missile Hangar as a warehouse for some stuff, which gave a sharp, pungent smell. I went through the Missile Hangar, some workers were present, but they did not take much note of me. As I continued my photo shoot, however, a civilian guy in a 700 BMW, obviously concerned about my presence there, approached me. This didn’t worry me, since local people I have met on the sites have never previously objected to my presence.

The BMW guy spoke only Russian, but after some time, he came in contact with an English speaking acquaintance on his mobile phone. I explained what we were doing, but “Alex” was seemingly still not happy with my presence. He seemed perplexed when I explained that I found the base through the INF Treaty and had flown to St. Petersburg, driven by car to Pskov, stayed there and then driven out to the Missile Base with the help of some satellite maps. I showed “Alex” our passports, flight tickets, car rental papers as well as the photos I’d taken, but he still wasn’t happy with that.

In the end “Alex” insisted on my not taking any more photos and our leaving the base. So I left, since I did not know if he were in a position to enforce his resistance against my photo shoot.

Anyway, it appears there’s a Dvina Complex at Ostrov too, and, as soon as I find it’s exact location, I will go to Ostrov again to document his. I then plan to go back to Ostrov North and give it another try, but this time I’ll be there on a Sunday – and steer clear of the Eastern Missile Hangar!

I went on a one day workshop at Blade Rubber just before Xmas - run by Susie Jefferson and she taught us how to make this Tim Holtz's Configurations box. Since it was nearing Xmas naturally it was themed accordingly.

We were supplied with practically all the materials needed to create this box but as the workshop lasted only 4hrs we had to complete them at home.

I really enjoyed making this and choosing all the different elements to include and the lights just make it all the more magical I think.

Gave this as an Xmas pressie to my daughters mother-in-law who absolutely loved it and will treasure it always.

You've got your thin people, a couple of fat folks, 2 stylishly dressed ladies, and a space alien at back right.

These benches are just the best. Sailing is so much easier and more comfortable. Sleeping platform is much improved over previous method. Benches, sailing configuration. I'll varnish when absolutely sure the amines have stopped blushing. I left the surface of the slider brackets supporting the seats a little rough to provide a little friction. It keeps the benches from slipping around when the boat heels.

This brought together the Gallery's own Hepworth works and others loaned from elsewhere.

This 1955 piece in Guarea wood and was inspired by a visit to Greece following the death of Hepworth's eldest son Paul Skeaping. She noted "Timeless and in space, pure in conception and like a rock to hold on to, these forms in Greece have been a constant source or inspiration". Phira is the capital of Santorini.

(4) Rectangular and (4) Quarter Round Modular Tables

This is a photograph from the 4th and final round of the 2017 Pat Finnerty Memorial 5KM Road League which was held in Belvedere House and Gardens, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Wednesday 24th May 2017 at 20:00. This is the final round and consequently some of the decisions around the final configuration of the category prizes are still open for resolution. The Road League is promoted and organised by Mulligar Harriers Athletic Club and sponsored by local sponsors including O'Brien's Renault dealership. This is a very well established as an annual event which takes place on every Wednesday night in the month of May. Tonight's weather was absolutely wonderful. Warm summer air filled the Belvedere area as the runners were treated to perfect summer weather. Just under 200 participants took part in the race which runs a traffic free course over a mix of road and hilly forest trail. Congratulations are due to all of the Mullingar Harriers club who put this excellent series together.

Timing and event management was provided by http://www.myrunresults.com/. Their website will contain the results to today's race.

Let's get a bit technical: We use Creative Commons Licensing for these photographs

We use the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License for all our photographs here in this photograph set. What does this mean in reality?

The explaination is very simple.

Attribution- anyone using our photographs gives us an appropriate credit for it. This ensures that people aren't taking our photographs and passing them off as their own. This usually just mean putting a link to our photographs somewhere on your website, blog, or Facebook where other people can see it.

ShareAlike – anyone can use these photographs, and make changes if they like, or incorporate them into a bigger project, but they must make those changes available back to the community under the same terms.

Above all what Creative Commons aims to do is to encourage creative sharing. See some examples of Creative Commons photographs on Flickr: www.flickr.com/creativecommons/

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:

►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera

►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set

►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone

►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.

Don't like your photograph here?

That's OK! We understand!

If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.

I want to tell people about these great photographs!

Great! Thank you! The best link to spread the word around is probably http://www.flickr.com/peterm7/sets

The most significant architectural historic element of Montalbano, Elicona is the castle which dominates a haphazard and tortuous medieval urban fabric, meandering up and down the alleyways, molding itself to the configuration of the rocky promontory. The little houses constructed in sandstone are filled with authentic history, although in certain places a sense of abandonment is felt which should disappear with the planned restoration works.Erected on pre-existing Byzantine and Arab structures, the upper part of the castle is comprised of a Norman-Suevian fortress, while the lower part is made up of a fortified Suevian-Aragonese palatium (palace). The upper part, a rectangular fortress, is enclosed on its two extremities by two towers, one with a square plan and the other, typically Suevian, with a pentagonal plan, which functions as a donjon. The embattled perimeter walls date back to the Suevian period, and represent the most important and best preserved a saettiere defensive configuration in Sicily. The date 1270 still engraved in the cover of the large cistern is evidence of its Angevin phase.Instead it is to Frederick II of Aragon that we owe that reconstruction of the edifice and its transformation from fortress to regiae aedes, royal residence for summer sojourn (1302-08). The sovereign had eighteen large windows open on to the perimeter walls above the Suevian embrasures as well as a considerable number of portals and gates. Thanks to the modifications executed by the Aragonese king, the castle of Montalbano is one of the most coherent and harmonious of the Sicilian Middle Ages. The most extraordinary element in the entire castle is the royal chapel of the Byzantine era, which according to some scholars preserves the remains of Arnaldo da Villanova, one of the most important personages of his time. Physician, alchemist and religious reformer suspected of heresy, he died in 1310, and his numerous stays in Montalbano with king Frederick are well documented.

The success of Sikorsky's H-19 Chickasaw saw the company explore a lengthened version with a more powerful engine. It used a more conventional (for the time) configuration with a tailwheel rather than the four main gears of the Chickasaw, and could carry more troops, equipment and fuel. As it offered the same reliability and basic use of the H-19, the H-34 was quick to find orders. The US Navy was the first customer, using it for two roles: antisubmarine (designated HSS-1 Seabat) and cargo (HUS-1 Seahorse); the latter was quickly adopted by the US Marine Corps as an assault transport. The H-34 was also exported to be license-built in France and in the UK, where the piston engine powerplant was exchanged for a turboshaft as the Wessex.

Though it was rapidly superseded by the turbine-powered UH-1 Huey, the H-34 proved to be a reliable and durable helicopter. It was used by the French in Algeria and the Marines in the early years of the Vietnam War, and saw service with the Israelis in the Suez and Six-Day Wars. The Navy replaced the Seabat with the SH-3 Sea King, but the UH-34 Seahorse remained in service until the end of the 1960s.

BuNo 148002 was delivered to to the Navy in the late 1950s, and served with HS-4 ("Black Knights") aboard the USS Yorktown (CVS-10) until 1963, when the squadron reequipped with SH-3As. It was then relegated to a training unit, HT-8 at Whiting Field, Florida until 1969, when it was retired. It was acquired by the Pueblo Weisbrod Museum in the early 1980s, still in overall orange training colors, but a combination of long storage in the Arizona desert and being displayed outside in Colorado winters severely damaged the paint job and airframe. In 2004, it was brought inside and completely restored to its appearance with HS-4.

I was pleasantly surprised to see a HS-4 aircraft with the NU tailcode of the Yorktown--that was my dad's aircraft carrier when he served in the Navy, from 1964-1970. The SH-34s had just left the ship when he came aboard, but this is a former Yorktown bird, so I feel some kinship with it.

Sep 15 2017 - Sure enough, Langelier Boulevard now has yet another new lane configuration.. we're all squeezed into a single lane now on the other side of the road. At least police are directing traffic through lights so to their credit it's going smoothly

This is a photograph from the SSE AIRTRICITY Dublin Marathon which was held in Dublin, Ireland on Bank Holiday Monday 26th October 2015 at 09:00.The Dublin Marathon has been held annually since 1980. The marathon course starts at Fitzwilliam Square in the city center and finishes at Merrion Square. For the past number of years there have been some changes to the configuration of the route at the start and finish due to traffic and transportation infrastructure work around the city center. However the majority of the race proceeds in an anti-clockwise direction around the city passing through the Phoenix Park, Chapelizod, Inchicore, South Circular Road, Walkinstown, Terenure, Clonskeagh, UCD, Stillorgan Dual Carriage Way, Ballsbridge and finishing up Northumberland Road and Mount Street. As always the organisation is first class and this seen just under 13,000 people complete the marathon course.

The weather conditions were not very good for marathon running with runners facing race and windy conditions around much of the course.

Overall the poor weather conditions did not make for very good photographic conditions particularly around the start and finish area where it was a little darker around the tall buildings and streets.

The full set of photographs from the start and the finish are available at our Flickr set for Dublin Marathon 2015 https://www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/albums/72157658064057124

Second configuration, changed out the saddle for a Selle Italia turbo and the handlebars for Soma Sparrows. The additional setback on the saddle and the new handlebar geometry was a huge improvement. The wine corks are a bit cheesy, but I needed a temporary fix to keep the bars from denting the top tube until I could find a better alternative.

This saddle was a stopgap until I could determine what kind of leather saddle I wanted. In the end though, it wasn't very comfortable with street clothes. The handlebars were about perfect for fit though.

GDMBR configuration, without RD framebag to hold 3-liter reservoir + purifier, etc. I might run front suspension, which means I would replace the Tara low with an OMM Sherpa high.

I start from Antelope Wells, NM in May, 2013. I am riding south to north because I need to leave early and the northern passes will still be closed. (GDMBR postponed until June, 2015...)

Not sure why the street configuration changes considerably as one moves from the apparel-dominated retail street to the entertainment end, capped by a cinema and dominated by restaurants (curiously casual and quick-casual only, no fine dining or fast food) at ground level and in an upper-level, open-air food court.

Funny how the end behind me has an assiduously terminated vista (at the theatre) but the other end doesn't.

Antique game pieces, dice and some tiny dominoes. Then, an old key, and a ticket finish up the bottom portion.
