Boeing’s AH-6i light attack/reconnaissance helicopter has flown for the first time in its production configuration, moving the program another step closer to full-scale production while continuing to prove the helicopter’s close air support and attack capabilities. Boeing pilots flew the aircraft for less than 20-minutes at low speeds in forward, rearward and sideward flight at low elevations during a recent test. Future tests will expand the flight envelope over the next several months.

Coming back from a family shot I saw my camera in this configuration in front of me - and thought: this looks like a tank more than anything else. With the metal heavy 80-200mm and all of the stacks on top of the hot shoe - a pocket wizard trigger and the remote control plus the metal mount for the tripod on the lens... And that 'tank look' is what I wanted to get across in this picture.

Sorry to admit - I love the ruggedness of that beast! And I am quite a bit proud to own this gear... Usually I am not a big "what's in my bag" guy - but this scene was screaming at me. So I hope my Canon and other camera friends can stay neutral and I don't receive too many rants ;-)

This photograph is part of the ongoing series where I am exploring the possibilities for astrophotography using a basic camera configuration without any assistance from a telescope or from a tracking mount. It is also important to note that I am acquiring these shots from various locations that are within 500 metres of our apartment building in the heart of the city of Canberra. I used the longest focal length lens in my bag (i.e., Hasselblad Carl Zeiss Sonnar CF 250mm f/5.6 Superachromat lens) to give me the maximum resolution. However, to avoid the appearance of star trails, I have to use exposures of 2 seconds or less.

It would be desirable to have a lens with a nice wide maximum aperture of f/1.4 or f/2.0, but this lens is restricted to apertures of f/5.6 and smaller. The combination of short exposure time and small aperture produces results that are significantly under-exposed. It is of little comfort that the results that I actually obtain from the area around our apartment is limited by the elevated ambient light levels rather than the light capture capabilities of the lens and digital sensor!

Relative to the orientation of the Southern Cross that is depicted in our national flag, the constellation is virtually upside down, with the star at the base of the cross, Alpha Crucis, being the bright object towards the upper right of the photograph. Clockwise from the top right, the four main stars are Alpha, Beta, Gamma, and Delta Crucis. The brightest star within the cross is Epsilon Crucis.

The feature to the right of Beta Crucis is the open cluster known as the "Jewel Box". Approximately a dozen component stars can be seen in this image. This is feature 4755 of the New General Catalogue (NGC 4755) and object C94 in the Caldwell Catalog.

The darker region along the majority of the righthand edge of the image is part of the "Coalsack Nebula", a patch of dark matter that obscures the light from the stars that are behind it. This is object C99 in the Caldwell Catalogue.

Alpha Crucis is a triple star, and the two brightest stars overlap each other but can be easily discerned in this image. Gamma Crucis is a double star and the two components are separated here.

Post-processing ...

Finder - Removed the CF card from the camera digital back and placed it in a Lexar 25-in-1 USB card reader. Then used Finder on my MacBook Air to download the raw image file (3FR extension) from the card.

Lightroom - Imported the 3FR image.

Lightroom - Used the Map module to add the location details to the EXIF header.

Lightroom - Applied various lighting and color adjustments in the Develop module.

Lightroom - Saved the basic Develop module settings as preset 20161008-008.

Lightroom - Output the image as a JPEG image using the "Maximum" quality option (8272 x 6200 pixels).

PhotoSync - Copied the JPEG file to my iPad Mini for any final processing, review, enjoyment, and posting to social media.

OH GOD THIS PICTURE WHY IS IT SO BAD. But I'm going to keep it as it's purpose is to show this and nothing else, meh.

Due to the fact that the 2.0 - 3.0 heros having a new body/building system the old heads (agori ones) look rather akward being directly attached to the body. Though this creates a proper neck for the agori heads thus allowing you to use a wide variety of heads as opposed to only useing the 2.0 and 3.0 hero heads. It's held in place by friction, and stays in place perfectly.
