Frankfurt is one of the few European cities with a large cluster of high rise building in its downtown area; in many other European cities, skyscraper construction was not well received in the past due to the historical value of existing buildings. For this reason, Frankfurt is sometimes referred to as "Mainhattan" (a portmanteau of the local Main river and Manhattan), and Chicago am Main.
A view of the "ABBA Arena", the new concert hall built for the new shows of the homonymous musical group, a third millennium concert made on purpose to make the people who participate in it live a particularly suggestive experience.
Sunset reflected in a part of the Harpa Concert Hall, Reykjavik, Iceland.
Located by the old harbor between Reykjavík city center and the North Atlantic, the Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre (2011), stands out as a unique landmark in continuous interplay with its surroundings. The design was influenced by Iceland‘s exceptional and dramatic nature. Situated on the boundary between land and sea, the building is a gleaming sculpture reflecting both sky and harbor, as well as the vibrant life of the city.
Harpa was designed by the Danish firm Henning Larsen Architects in co-operation with Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson.

Himinglæva is a sculpture made of stainless-steel made by Icelandic sculptor Elín Hansdóttir, unveiled in 2022 outside the Harpa concert hall in Reykjavík. It’s a work of art that is not only meant to be seen, but also heard. An “Aeolian harp,” the sculpture is designed to produce sonic overtones as the wind travels through it—although I didn’t perceive any on the blustery day on which I photographed it.
Although it is known in English as ‘Wind Harp’, its Icelandic name of ‘Himinglæva’ comes from Norse mythology, and means “transparent, shining, and small wave.”
In Norse mythology, sailors who sensed the power of the wind and waves around them assumed that the mythical figure Himinglæva was embodying the water and propelling their vessels across the ocean. Alluding metaphorically to this legend, the harp is designed to attune the viewer to the natural forces around them. The shape is based on a Lissajous figure, representing the shape of light beams reflected through vibrating tuning forks. The sounds it produces change based on the force of the wind travelling through it.
Harpa (Icelandic for Harp) is a concert hall and conference centre in Reykjavík, Iceland. The opening concert was held on 4 May 2011. The building features a distinctive colored glass facade inspired by the basalt landscape of Iceland
It was designed by the Danish firm Henning Larsen Architects in co-operation with Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson. The structure consists of a steel framework clad with geometric shaped glass panels of different colours.
Construction started in 2007 but was halted with the start of the financial crisis. The completion of the structure was uncertain until the government decided in 2008 to fully fund the rest of the construction costs for the half-built concert hall. For several years it was the only construction project in existence in Iceland. The building was given its name on the Day of Icelandic Music on 11 December 2009, prior to which it was called Reykjavík Concert Hall and Conference Centre (Icelandic: Tónlistar- og ráðstefnuhúsið í Reykjavík). The building is the first purpose-built concert hall in Reykjavík and it was developed in consultation with artistic advisor Vladimir Ashkenazy and international consultant Jasper Parrott of HarrisonParrott. It houses the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and the offices of The Icelandic Opera.
In 2013, the building won the European Union's Mies van der Rohe award for contemporary architecture.
The glass façade of the building consists of 714 LED lights, 486 in the eastern part of the building and 228 in the western part. These lights usually display video works designed by Olafur Eliasson, and sometimes other artists

The title has absolutely nothing to do with the picture except that we were listening to that song quite often while driving through Iceland :o)

ENG: At the beginning of 2021, the electro-hip-hop band Deichkind visited the Elbphilharmonie and created their very own sound for this building. You can like it, but you don't have to. ☻

The Elbphilharmonie (nicknamed "Elbphi") had a construction period from 2007 to 2016 and is a concert hall in Hamburg. The opening ceremony took place on 11 January 2017. It was planned with the aim of creating a new landmark for the city and a "cultural monument for all". The entire project then cost around 866 million euros. The 110 metre high building in the HafenCity district is located on the right bank of the Norderelbe at the tip of the Großen Grasbrook and has 26 floors and 29 elevators.
It was built using the shell of the former Kaispeicher A warehouse from 1963. A modern structure with a glass façade reminiscent of sails, water waves, icebergs or a quartz crystal was placed on this plinth. The location at the Kaiserhöft is characterised by the former industrial use of the harbour and the neo-Gothic brick architecture of the Speicherstadt.

On the night when I was ready in Reykjavik to capture this famous architectural building it turned out that there would be no performances that night which means there would be less lighting than expected, the building indeed remained quite empty, but just when I had hoped even though I had given up, some light turned on, unfortunately it also started to drizzle and I had to work quickly and clean to get this done, it was a challenge, but I'm quite satisfied with it....

The "Father Willis" organ was built in 1864 as part of a refurbishment of the Victoria Hall. It was commissioned by Reading Philharmonic Society from Henry Willis, one of Britain’s foremost organ builders.
A funky Royal Festival Hall in London! This vivid showcase in the concert hall’s gift shop was irresistible.

It never gets dark in Iceland in summer. Sunset is shortly after midnight, sunrise is at 3 in the morning. I took this shot from inside the Harpa Concert Hall in Reykjavik, Iceland, shortly after sunset. Each window has a different color tone.
I processed a balanced and a paintery HDR photo from three RAW exposures, merged them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves.

The Fox Oakland Theatre is a concert hall and a former movie theater, located in Downtown Oakland, California. In the 1920s theaters across the nation strived to be more than just a typical building. This theater's interior with rich colors and intricate gold accents resembles an Indian temple. It closed in 1965, was refurbished in the 2000s, and reopened as a concert venue in 2009.
