The Elbphilharmonie is a concert hall in the HafenCity quarter of Hamburg. The new glassy construction resembling a water wave sits on top of an old warehouse built in 1963. Opened to the public in 2017, the Elbphilharmonie was designed by Herzog & de Meuron.

Today I had my big performance. I was booked to give a presentation on time management. Unfortunately, I arrived half an hour late. I was very disappointed by the impatience of the audience.

The Grande-Duchesse Joséphine-Charlotte Concert Hall is a concert hall located in the City of Luxembourg. Opened in 2005, it now plays host to 400 performances each year. The intention of its architect Christian de Portzamparc was to mark the entrance into the world of music through a natural filter created with 823 facade columns made of white steel and arranged in three or four rows.

The best concert hall in Toronto is fairly young. It is attached to Royal Conservatory building from 1881. Koerner Hall opened in 2009 and is in my opinion the best place in Toronto to listen music in concert setting. There is not a bad seat (1100 capacity) to hear the music and it's beautifully designed hall.

Since it reopened in 2022 it is about half full, as people still fear larger crowds.

Michael Koerner (born in Prague) and Sonja Novak Koerner were major financial contributors. Architects Marianne McKenna (KPMB).

the Petronas Philharmonic Hall situated at the base of the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Not a very large concert hall but the home of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra has hosted many great performances and international musicians, and Vladimir Ashkenazy was chief conductor for some years here.

A nighttime shot from the Tyne Bridge, itself quite a landmark, connecting Newcastle (left bank of the River Tyne here) with Gateshead (right bank). This showcases the new Tyneside that began to emerge about the turn of the 21st Century, to some extent a showcase for postmodern architecture.

The Gateshead Millennium Bridge is a pedestrian and cyclist tilt bridge spanning the River Tyne between the Gateshead arts quarter on the south bank and the Quayside of Newcastle upon Tyne on the north bank. Opened for public use in 2001, the award-winning structure was conceived and designed by architectural practice WilkinsonEyre and structural engineering firm Gifford. The bridge is sometimes referred to as the 'Blinking Eye Bridge' or the 'Winking Eye Bridge' due to its shape and its tilting method.

Sage Gateshead is a concert venue, opened in 2004. It was designed by Foster and Partners, the practice of Norman Foster. The curved glass and stainless steel building contains three performance spaces; a 1,700-seater, a 450-seater, and a smaller rehearsal and performance hall.

The armory and the building to the north were built in the 17th century as a church and monastery by the order of the Franciscan Observants.

After the abolition of the monasteries in 1802, the buildings of the observants became the property of the city. While the monastery buildings were used by the grammar school until 1889, the church was rented to the Prussian military. By 1864 the Landwehr battalion set up its "armory" here, in which weapons and other military equipment were stored.

After further use as a grain store and sales hall of a department store, the armory was converted into a ballroom and served as a venue for the Rheinische Städtebundtheater since 1925.

The historic church has been used as a concert hall since 1950, including for the city's "armory concerts".

Access to the Concert Hall

The Concert Hall has been a national and international showcase for hundreds of years. It is a reference of the national symphonic and choral music.

Looking at the stairs, the railing is very worked in stone with balusters made of glass, glazed ceramics and reliefs of flowers as the ornamentation of the ceilings.

The glass lamps with ceramic elements and four white satellites, point the space on the stone pillar of the stairs.

Harpa is a concert hall and convention center located in Reykjavik, Iceland. Its design is influenced by columnar basalt that is pervasive in Iceland due to its volcanic origins.

This is the third of three major design motifs. It is found on the ceilings and it consists of a combination of mirrored and black panels.

If you ever played the video game Qbert in the good old days, this ceiling reminds me of the landscape in that game :).
