Una chiesolina dedicata all' apostolo delle genti fu eretta nel 1596 dai pp. Barnabiti presso la colonna antonina. Il cardinale Aldobrandini ebbe in animo di riedificarla con più vaste proporzioni. Ma un incendio la distrusse del tutto nel 1617. Poco dopo fu riedificata, finchè fu distrutta per la fabbrica del palazzo Chigi. In quella chiesa tenne le sue prime adunanze un' associazione formatasi nel secolo XVI, composta di distinti cittadini. Questi vi si raccoglievano nei giorni festivi, e dopo recitato l' ufficio ed ascoltata la messa, si occupavano di ascoltar vedove, pupilli, minori, orfani sopra gli aggravi che potessero ricevere dai ricchi e dai prepotenti.
Quest' associazione nel 1616 era di già eretta in confraternita composta di persone dabbene d' ambo i sessi sotto l' invocazione dell' Immacolata Concezione di M. V. e di s. Ivo. Nel 1659, trasferiti i Barnabiti da questa chiesuola a s. Biagio dell' anello, vi si trasferì colà la detta confraternita, cui fu concesso l' uso libero ed assoluto dell' oratorio entro il convento dei suddetti padri.

Two of our evergreen trees are looking rather yellow in color. It was
suggested to us that we get our soil tested to understand the nutrient
deficiency. We already know that our property is deficient in
virtually all nutrient since it is just a old parking lot on top of
land fill. We came to the conclusion to add more compost in liquid for
to the trees. A few balls of well composted material put into a 5
gallon bucket of water and mixed then applied to both trees is our
approach. We will continue this treatment once a week for the next
month and see if the trees start to show a healthier color.
We installed the second compost bin this morning next to the garden to alternate use each year. We're doing that because each Spring we can't pull out the previous season's compost from underneath a winter's worth of additional uncomposted compost.
Even when we use the bottom side doors, the uncomposted material on top (that didn't compost over the Winter because it was too cold) falls down and blocks access.
If the Fall, we'll switch to filling up the other bin. That should allow us to completely empty the previous season's compost bin when Spring comes.
I wanted to test how compostable this "compostable" bag really was. I put it in my worm bin for 4.5 months (enough time for all of the vegetable matter to be fully broken down).

We got a ton of compost from the city for around $25. The cheap plastic bins were a bad idea - half broke.

We have 6 compost bins 5 feet square. When this one gets full, it will be time for DH to spread the contents of the oldest bin on the garden and then turn each bin into the newly emptied bin next to it. Having a big, strong hubby does come in handy!
It was really rainy that is why the picture looks so noisy. Here is layered compost in a manure spreader.
Fungi in my Compost Bin. I had in that compost bin, rotting Malay Apples, small tropical fruit. These fungi were growing and I actually had my head in this bin to get these closeups. It sounds gross but they are small and I had to get close to get the macros, and the bin did not smell. LOL. We thought a compost bin was a good idea, till the javelinas (wild collared peccaries) discovered it...No we have a critter fence to exclude them from most of our gardens, except when someone forgets to close a gate!
A grain box from an old Deere combine. The bottom opening has some metal screen attached to allow for upward air flow through the curing compost. It is placed on an old pallet to allow for easier movement with a tractor.
We eat a lot of fruit, veggies, and eggs on the GAPS diet . . . this 5 gallon bucket makes trips to the compost tumbler less frequent.
Nearly completed rotating composter. The gray material is above-ground swimming pool liner, formed into a cylinder with heavy aluminum and lots of pop rivets. Its axle is chain link fence post with bearings of Schedule 80 PVC plumbing pieces, aluminum tubing, polyethelyene pipe, and 1/2 inch stainless steel bolts.

Ingredienti
250 g circa petti di tacchino [ricetta orig: 140 g petti di pollo + 4 cosce di pollo]
g 140 composta di fichi fioroni [ricetta orig: confettura di fichi]
g 120 panna fresca
g 60 brodo vegetale
prezzemolo [ricetta orig: maggiorana]
olio extravergine d'oliva
sale e pepe
4 fette di pane [ricetta orig: g 200 focaccia]
Preparazione
Ridurre a dadini circa 140 g di tacchino e passarlo al mixer con la panna, una presa di sale e un pizzico di pepe. Infine, mescolare al composto g 80 di composta di fichi. Aprire il rimanente petto di tacchino [ricetta originale: disossare le cosce di pollo], porlo tra due fogli di pellicola e spianarlo delicatamente con il batticarne. Eliminare la pellicola, ricavarne dei quadrati e spianarli delicatamente con il batticarne. Eliminare la pellicola e stendere su ciascuna di essi g 10 di confettura di fichi. Spalmare poi con il composto mixato, arrotolare, avvolgere in un doppio foglio di pellicola, chiudere a caramella alle estremità e bucherellare qua e là con una forchetta. Tuffare i cilindri in brodo vegetale bollente e lasciarli lessare, a fiamma dolce, per 18-20' circa. Una volta cotti, eliminare la pellicola e farli dorare in padella in un filo di olio. Lasciarli intiepidire, quindi affettarli, profumarli con qualche fogliolina di prezzemolo (maggiorana) e servirli, tiepidi, su fette sottili di pane [ricetta orig. focaccia] tranciate con un coppa pasta, leggermente bruschettate e lucidate con olio aromatizzato al prezzemolo (o alla maggiorana). Despite the recent freezing temperatures at night, the garden compost is holding steady at a toasty 97 degrees. The orchard compost is about 80. We're working on that. The temps have me thinking more about the outdoor shower.

When out kitchen scrap bucket (in our kitchen) is filled, we empty it outside in the compost bin. This is what we had today.
Leavings from cleaning out the compost extractor will be put on Alec McIntosh's garden. The extractor uses water and air to concentrate living biology in compost into liquid that can be used in sprayers, seeders, and other equipment to jump start soil biology. (and accompanying toilet paper). I figured that people would be curious, so I took a picture of the chalet's composting toilet. The hole is covered by two plastic flaps; when you sit down those flaps go down and open the hole. The sawdust on the left goes in when you finish. The liquid and the solids are separated, and when each container is full, it's dumped somewhere in the forest (we didn't have to do this in the week I was there).

Vento Festival, música de graça no centro histórico de Ilhabela ( Vila)
16,17,18 e 19 de julho 2015

Icem as velas e abram os ouvidos para a nova música que tomará Ilhabela entre os dias 16 e 19 de Julho de 2015. Durante quatro dias, a Vila da Ilha será o palco da primeira edição do VENTO FESTIVAL, composto pelo que há de mais atual na música brasileira. Do tropicalismo ao rock, da psicodelia ao jazz, o evento apresentará 12 bandas autorais e 4 DJs e contará com o rapper Max B.O. como mestre de cerimônia.
Céu, Tulipa Ruiz, Lira, Holger, O Terno, Guizado, Charlie e os Marretas, Saulo Duarte e a Unidade, Inky, Singapura, Norma Nascimento, Fidura, Piratas da Ilha, DJ Dago, DJ Mataga e Dip e DJ Phill formam o time já confirmado.
Com realização da Prefeitura de Ilhabela e da Secretaria de Turismo, idealização e organização de Anna Penteado, do Núcleo Indahouse, produção executiva de Bianca Lombardi e artística de Shirlei Vieira, da Recheio Digital, e direção de Tatiana Sobral, da Casco Ilhabela, os quatro dias de shows serão gratuitos, de frente para o mar, em pleno centro histórico da cidade.
Do entardecer ao adentrar da madrugada, visitantes, ilhabelenses e residentes estão convidados a curtir a brisa do mar embalados por música boa e instigante, feita pelos artistas que formam e representam a atual cena nacional.
Além das apresentações de peso, o evento também dará oportunidade para gigs espontâneas: um open mic possibilitará que novos artistas apresentem seu trabalho à plateia. As inscrições estão abertas no site do Vento Festival.
Todo o projeto foi pensando para inserir algo inédito no cenário de Ilhabela. Anna Penteado, que trabalha na área musical nacional e internacional e hoje vivencia a rotina da Ilha, tem a intenção de trazer a vibração dos festivais independentes para a Ilhabela e proporcionar momentos de liberdade, movimento e valorização da nova música brasileira.
Vento é ar em movimento, é energia renovável e força motriz essencial para a capital da vela. Nesse novo contexto, é o Vento que vai agitar a comunidade local, turistas e artistas em prol da boa música e cultura.
