It would take an organic farmer to post such a sign on his boundary fence; I wonder what grows beyond the native bush on the other side of that barbed wire.
The plastic earth screws were no match for Bruno. We’ve had lots of visits from this bear and/or it’s friends.
In your garden, pull up any dead plants and lay them on the ground around healthy plants. You can also chop them up and mix them into the soil.
While leaves changing color in the fall are dying, they are not dead. A cold snap will kill the leaves the same as it will on the leaves of most your other plants.
I was dumping some yard debris and spotted a few of these. I didn't have any plans on photographing, but...
I used a small puck light due to the bright backdrop and took 60 images for my stack. I had hoped to capture the back valance, but this guy was very short.
We were surprised to look out to see these sweet ladies in our yard. One of them was very interested in our compost!
I feel terrible for wildlife lately because the air quality is horrendous due to the Canadian wildfires. For several days it’s been in the “unhealthy” and “very unhealthy” range, with a constant haze in the air. While we have the option of closing windows & filtering our air, they do not.
We’ve been taking steps to impact the earth less and minimize our waste, such as reducing our plastic use and purchasing less. One thing I’ve been wanting to do for a while is to start composting again (we weren’t very successful with it several years ago), and after researching it for a while, we finally started. The bin works great for this environment because we tend to get a lot of dampness & humidity here. Plus, it’s made from untreated cedar instead of plastic. The pail is for keeping on our kitchen counter and is perfect, complete with a filter to keep the smells in the pail.

Macro Mondays - Trick or Treat
Some years ago we warned local children that if they threw eggs at our house when denied a treat their compost heap would become infested with ghoulish horrors.
This creature was recently found on one of their garden paths - clearly tortured to reveal the location of where where others might be hiding. You have been warned!
No apples were actually harmed during the capture of this individual, it's a mock up.
Guggenheim Museum (Bilbao - Paesi Baschi - Spagna).

Il Museo Guggenheim Bilbao è un museo di arte contemporanea che si trova a Bilbao, País Vasco in Spagna. Il Guggenheim di Bilbao è uno dei vari musei della Fondazione Solomon R. Guggenheim.
Inaugurato nel 1997, nel contesto di rivitalizzazione della città di Bilbao e della provincia di Vizcaya (biscaglia) sin dalla sua apertura il museo si è trasformato in un'importantissima attrazione turistica, richiamando visitatori da numerosi paesi del mondo; diventando così il simbolo della Città di Bilbao nel mondo.
Progettato dallo studio d'architettura di Frank Gehry, fu aperto al pubblico nel 1997 e da allora ospita esposizioni di opere d'arte appartenenti alla fondazione Guggenheim e anche di mostre itineranti. Rapidamente il museo si è rivelato come uno dei più spettacolari edifici del decostruttivismo. Il Museo occupa complessivamente 24.000 metri quadri, di cui 10.600 sono spazi espositivi, e risulta composto da una serie di volumi interconnessi in modo spettacolare. L'impatto con l'ambiente circostante risulta certamente forte, ma al tempo stesso non tale da fornire disturbo, anzi l'imponente struttura si sposa con il contesto grazie alla sua sobria eleganza dovuta anche ai materiali di cui è rivestita.
Il disegno del museo e la sua costruzione seguono perfettamente lo stile e i metodi di Frank Gehry. Come molti dei suoi lavori precedenti la struttura principale è radicalmente scolpita seguendo contorni quasi organici. Il museo, affermano i progettisti, non possiede una sola superficie piana in tutta la struttura. Parte dell'edificio è attraversata da un ponte elevato, e all'esterno è ricoperto da piastre di titanio e blocchi di una pietra molto difficile da trovarsi (si è riusciti a reperirla solo in Andalusia), la stessa utilizzata per la costruzione dell'Università di Deusto.
L'edificio, visto dal fiume, sembra avere la forma di una nave, rendendo così omaggio alla città portuale nella quale si trova. I pannelli brillanti assomigliano alle squame di un pesce, e ricordano le influenze delle forme organiche presenti in molte opere di Gehry. Visto dall'alto l'edificio mostra senza ombra di dubbio la forma di un fiore. Per la progettazione il team di Gehry ha utilizzato intensamente simulazioni computerizzate delle strutture, riuscendo così a ideare forme che solamente qualche anno prima sarebbero risultate impossibili anche solo da immaginare.
Il titanio è uno dei protagonisti di quest'opera, poiché ricopre gran parte delle superfici esterne (si tratta in fatti di trentatremila lastre, realizzate per durare cent’anni). Il titanio è stato estratto in Australia, fuso in Francia, laminato a Pittsburg, decappato in Gran Bretagna e assemblato a Milano ed ha uno spessore di 0,3 mm per lamina. Altre parti dell’edificio, invece, sono rivestite da lastre di pietra calcarea, proveniente dalle cave di Granada, con spessore di 50 mm, e tutte lucidate al momento della posa. Duemilacinquecento lastre di cristallo costituiscono invece le parti trasparenti dell'edificio, strutturate in doppio cristallo termico tale da proteggere l'interno dal calore e dalle irradiazioni solari.
Se dal livello del fiume il museo domina le viste della zona, il suo aspetto dal livello superiore della strada è molto più modesto e riesce a non stonare con tutti gli edifici più tradizionali che gli sorgono intorno.

The Flickr Lounge-Made Of Wood
These are wood pallets we got from a local business to use for our compost bins. The Rhubarb is growing on the left side and a volunteer Delicata Squash is growing in front of the bin.
Thursday Monochrome
Planting season is upon us and Stu dug out the Toro Lawn Mower to make his way to the compost pile.
The largest of the abandoned barges I photographed on this day. The wood timbers are so substantial that they partially turn to compost long before they totally disintegrate. Some of the barges have a thicket of shrubbery growing on top; this one had smaller plants on the side.
The original swimming pool is still intact on the grounds of the circa-1910 Cornish Estate near Cold Spring, N.Y. There had to have been a great view of the Hudson Highlands down the slope before all these trees sprouted.
I've sunk to new lows in trying to get some pictures taken during the lock down. This is the contents of my backyard composter.

WEEK 15: APRIL 2008/2010 FLASHBACK – ENTROPY
We keep this little metal pail in our kitchen to throw out vegetable matter for compost.
I opened it today and thought, since the stuff hadn't decayed all that much, the variety of colors and textures were pretty cool. I thought it would make for an interesting photo for Entropy.
Not the tidiest of gardens, it takes a lot of work keeping it this scruffy LOL.
We get a lot of wildlife though and the compost gets used up every year. Squizzy loves this bit as it is close to the trees and he/she can make his/her getaway. The snow has now gone from the back garden, not so with the front.
