NON-NUCLEAR COMPONENT STORES BUILDING 60 –

 

The function of the non-nuclear component stores was to hold the high explosive part of the bomb and its outer casing. The casing could probably be split into two units, the tail and forward part containing the high explosive and electronics. The bombs, minus their fissile components, were housed in three almost identical stores buildings 59-61, known as Storage Building Type 'D-D'. These are arranged in an arrowhead pattern, and are accessed from the internal loop road, and are all surrounded by 14ft 6in high earth traverses, revetted by a reinforced concrete retaining wall against the roadway.

 

The western store, building 59 was gutted by a fire during the 1980's and has subsequently been demolished. Its floor plan remains visible on the remaining concrete floor slab. The two remaining stores, buildings 60 and 61 are rectangular in plan, and are constructed from reinforced concrete columns and beams. Internally there are two rows of columns, 13in², which support the roof beams, 2ft by 9in, which carry the 9in thick reinforced concrete roof slab which is covered with bituminous felt. The rainwater gutters and down pipes are cast asbestos.

 

The wall sections are filled with 18in by 9in by 9in precast concrete blocks, internally the main storage area measures 190ft 2½in by 60ft. It is divided longitudinally into eleven 17ft by 3ft bays and cross ways into three bays the outer bays measure 17ft 6in and the central bay is 25ft wide. The maximum clear internal height was 12ft from the floor to the underside of the roof beams. The floor is surfaced with a hard gritless asphalt with the patent name 'Ironite'. The walls are painted pale green colour and the ceiling cream. in store building 61 the bay letters 0, N, M, and L are visible on the rear columns on the eastern side, suggesting the store was divided into 22 bays along the outer walls.

 

Abutting on to the front of the stores, and flanking the entrances, are plant and switch rooms, which originally contained heating and air conditioning plant to maintain a stable environment within the stores. A raised air extract duct is placed asymmetrically on the roofs of the stores. Entry into the stores is through a 10ft wide door opening with 12ft high doors. In the rear wall of the stores is a single door width, outward opening emergency exit. The first nuclear weapon the store was designed to hold was relatively large, a ''Blue Danube'' bomb measured 24ft in length and weighed 10,000lbs.

 

The problems of handling such large objects are reflected in the provision of substantial lifting gantries at the entrance to each store. Two variants are found, the simplest, exemplified by the middle store building 60 comprises a straight gantry. Over the roadway the gantry is supported by four 24in by 18in reinforced concrete columns, which support two 51in by 24in reinforced concrete beams. The upper beams of the gantry taper towards the entrance to the store where they are suppurted by two reinforced concrete columns. On the underside of the gantry is attached a 20in by 6½in rolled steel joist runway beam which runs to the entrance to the building. This was originally fitted with a 10 ton hoist. The gantry is covered by asbestos sheeting to provide a dry working area.

 

On the eastern and western stores the gantries were set at 30° to the front of the stores. In this variant an extra set of columns was placed at the 30° dogleg. Internally there is no evidence for a runway beam, so it presumed the bombs were lifted off a road transporter and loaded onto a bomb trolley for storage. It is not known how many bombs were kept in each store, or if the tail units were separated from the front part of the bomb for storage. Subsequent to the site being relinquished by the RAF a central corridor has been created in the stores by the insertion of breeze block walls. Doors in these walls give access to workshops along either side of the buildings. External windows have also been inserted in some of the bays.

The Frecce Tricolori (Italian pronunciation: [ˈfrettʃe trikoˈloːri]; literally "Tricolour Arrows"), officially known as the 313° Gruppo Addestramento Acrobatico, Pattuglia Acrobatica Nazionale (PAN) Frecce Tricolori ("313th Acrobatic Training Group, National Aerobatic Team (PAN) Frecce Tricolori"), is the aerobatic demonstration team of the Italian Air Force. Based at Rivolto Air Base, province of Udine, it was created on 1 March 1961 as a permanent group for the training of Air Force pilots in air acrobatics.[1]

 

The Tricolour Arrows replaced unofficial teams that had been sponsored by various commands starting in the early 1930s.[2] The team flies the Aermacchi MB-339-A/PAN, a two-seat fighter-trainer craft capable of 898 km/h at sea level.[2][3] With ten aircraft, nine in close formation and a soloist, they are the world's largest acrobatics patrol, and their flight schedule, comprising about twenty acrobatics and about half an hour, made them the most famous in the world.[4] It is one of national symbols of Italy.

 

Formation

During the performances the formation of the acrobatic patrol is usually composed of 9 aircraft, called "Pony", each labeled with a number ranging from 1 to 10.[18][19] The name "Pony" was coined by the then Captain Zeno Tascio to remember the horse of Francesco Baracca[20] which is the sign of the 4th Wing, at the time 4th Airbase who was already preparing to take over the task PAN for the 1961. Depending on the needs of the Department, aircraft can also be 11 in total, thus including the figure of the acrobatic training manager:

Frecce Tricolori (italienisch für Dreifarbige Pfeile) sind eine Kunstflugstaffel der italienischen Luftwaffe, die 1961 als 313º Gruppo Addestramento Acrobatico aufgestellt wurde. Die Staffel ist auf dem Militärflugplatz Rivolto bei Udine stationiert und erhielt am 1. Juli 1961 den heutigen Namen: 313º Gruppo Addestramento Acrobatico - Pattuglia Acrobatica Nazionale (PAN) “Frecce Tricolori”.

Der Ursprung des Kunstflugteams reicht bis in die 1920er Jahre zurück. Bei einem Besuch in Großbritannien hatten einige hohe Fliegeroffiziere die Anfänge des Formationskunstflugs kennengelernt. Der Befehl zur Gründung einer Kunstflugstaffel ging an Oberst Rino Corso Fougier in Udine. Er gilt als Vater des italienischen Formationskunstflugs und prägte maßgeblich den Ausbildungsstandard der Militärpiloten.

 

Die erste Fünfer-Kunstflugstaffel seines 1. Geschwaders (1º Stormo) war in Campoformido stationiert. Die erste Staffel erschien am 8. Juni 1930 bei der 1ª Giornata Aerea dell’Ala in Rom als offizieller Repräsentant der italienischen Luftwaffe.[1] In dieser Geburtsstunde zeigten sie mit sieben Jagddoppeldeckern vom Typ Fiat CR.20 ihr erstes Programm. Die 2ª Giornata Aerea dell’Ala 1932 zeigte mit Doppeldeckern vom Typ Breda Ba.19 ihr Programm. 1936 erhielten die „Frecce“ die Fiat CR.32.

 

Nach der Unterbrechung durch den Zweiten Weltkrieg begannen sie erneut mit Düsenflugzeugen das Formationskunstflugtraining. Die Teams Cavallino Rampante („Aufbäumendes Pferdchen“), Getti Tonanti („Donnernde Jets“), Tigri Bianche („Weiße Tiger“), Lancieri Neri („Schwarze Lanzenreiter“) und die Diavoli Rossi („Rote Teufel“) wurden bekannt.

 

Die erste wirkliche italienische Kunstflugstaffel wurde vom 4º Stormo aufgestellt. Als erste Einheit mit den Doppelrumpfjägern de Havilland D.H.100F.B.52 bildeten die Piloten des Geschwaders 1954 das erste italienische Kunstflug-Jet-Team mit dem Namen „Cavallino Rampante“. Mit der Republic F-84G starteten die „Getti Tonanti“ als Nachfolger der Staffel „Cavallino Rampante“. Der Fliegerfilm I quattro del getto tonante („Die vier donnernden Jets“) wurde mit dem Team gedreht. Die 51ª Aerobrigata übernahm 1955 mit dem Team „Tigri Bianche“ die Funktion der offiziellen Kunstflugstaffel der italienischen Luftwaffe, geflogen mit F84G Thunderjets. 1956 flog wieder das 4° Stormo mit neuen Canadair F-86 Sabre Mk4[2]. Das 6° Stormo flog als „rote Teufel“ („Diavoli Rossi“) die Republic F84F Thunderstreaks erstmals am 19. Mai 1957 auf dem Flughafen Turin-Caselle. 1958 wurde die 2ª Aerobrigata mit dem Namen „Lancieri Neri“ aufgestellt. Die sechs Piloten flogen eine F-86 Sabre.

 

Das Generalstab der italienischen Luftwaffe entschloss sich Ende 1960, ein eigenes Kunstflugteam aufzubauen, das nur noch in der Nebenrolle als leichte Jagdbomberstaffel zur Verfügung stehen sollte. Mit dieser Aufgabe wurde die 313º Gruppo betraut.

Moomba Boats @MoombaBoats is digitally chronicling the first production build of the new Mojo 2.5 wakeboard boat with daily build photo posts. This series of blog posts and photos galleries will illustrate the superior production processes that make a Moomba boat.

 

Yesterday was the fifth production day of this new Moomba wide-bow wake boat. Up to this point we have seen the structure of the boat created. The exterior of the boat is now given another close inspection in Parts Inspection or PI. The Mojo then moves to Rigging where underwater gear, ballast pick-ups and the Multi-sport Wakeplate are installed. Here we will also see the Mojo 2.5 being prepared for the Indmar engine, wiring routed and the dash installed.

  

Prior to entering the Rigging stage of the production the Mojo deck and hull are united under the lights in Parts Inspection. Here the exterior of the boat is cleaned, buffed and closely examined for gel coat imperfections. If there is a blemish, we would rather repair it here in PI instead of waiting until the end of the line when a gel coat patch may not have time to properly cure before shipping.

 

Custom Mojo-specific fiberglass jigs are used before the rigging process to ensure consistent hole placement for the components to be installed.

 

Rigging is a major stage in production for any boat and the Mojo is no exception. During the first part of this stage the Mojo's under water gear is through bolted to the running surface of the boat. Tracking fins, struts, the prop shaft mount, the steering arm and the rudder box are all through bolted for strength. While some manufacturers secure these vital components with screws, at Moomba we take this process a step further with stainless steel through bolts.

 

Components like the rudder can be put under a tremendous amount of force during normal boating operation. This is why we choose to take extra steps to secure these items properly and why this area of the boat benefits from a thicker mounting surface. The area of the Mojo where the rudder is installed is nearly twice as thick as this same area on other manufacturers' boats. The fiberglass is laid on thicker in this area and PCV board is used to beef up the area even more.

 

The foundation for the Mojo's wake enhancement is installed in rigging with the water intakes and plumbing for the Gravity I or optional Gravity III ballast system. The Multi-sport Wakeplate is also installed at this stage of production. The Multi-sport Wakeplate shapes the wake, provides skill and water sports versatility and is standard on the 2012 Mojo 2.5.

 

The helm gets a lot of work in rigging. The dash and related wiring is installed and routed. You will notice that the Mojo dash is shaped to compliment the boats' design. The dash functions are simple, durable and easy to use as well as eye-catching. Optional components, controlled at the dash like docking lights are installed during this time as well.

 

As the Mojo is being rigged the remainder of the upholstered interior pieces are being finished and prepared for installation in the days ahead. The driver's seat is one of the last interior pieces to be completed. The Mojo driver's seat is standard with a flip-up bolster, forward and backward position adjustment and swivel.

 

In the next stage of production we will see the rigging process completed as well as the Mojo's engine and interior installed. Still a lot more excitement to come.

Gala 75 Aniversario Coros y Danzas "Villa de Madridejos"

El 75 aniversario de la Asociación de Coros y Danzas Villa de Madridejos reunió este fin de semana en el Pabellón Santa Ana a la mayoría de los componentes que han pasado por dicha asociación desde 1940 en una gala homenaje a las personas que tuvieron la iniciativa de crear el grupo y han sabido transmitir el saber popular hasta nuestros días.

La gala consistió en un recorrido por la historia de la asociación desde su creación hasta nuestros días documentada con vídeos y fotografías, e intercalada con distintos bailes regionales, propios de La Mancha, que interpretaron miembros antiguos de las asociación, el grupo actual compuesto por 48 personas y el grupo infantil.

La pieza clave de las actuación y que sirvió como colofón a la gala fue la ‘seguidilla de Madridejos’, considerada desde el alma del grupo como el himno de esta asociación. También se interpretaron fandangos, jotas y rondeñas.

Los antiguos componentes subieron al estrado para contar algunas de sus experiencias a su paso por la asociación o recibir obsequios en reconocimiento a su labor.

Al evento asistieron el Presidente de la Federación Española de Agrupaciones de Folclore, Pedro Asuar y el Presidente de la Federación Castellano-Manchega de Folclore, Jesús Moreno.

Asuar destacó la importancia de los grupos de folclore en cuanto al cuidado de la historia e idiosincrasia de los pueblos como defensores de los mismos. Y definió al folclore como «la salvaguarda de nuestro patrimonio cultural y material», añadiendo que «esta salvaguarda la ha sabido reconocer las Cortes Generales y así ha sido también reconocida a nivel Europeo».

Por su parte Jesús Moreno recordó con entusiasmo que las «seguidillas» serán declaradas Bien de Interés Cultural si el expediente que está en curso sale adelante, hecho del que dijo que tiene esperanza que así sea en 2016.

Sendos presidentes entregaron un obsequio a la asociación madridejense que fue recogido por su presidente, Pablo Gómez, con motivo de este 75 aniversario.

El obsequio que la Federación Castellano Manchega de Folclore le entregó de manera simbólica a Pablo Gómez, consistió en la más alta distinción que puede recibir un grupo de folclore, la insignia de oro, que recibirá la Asociación de Coros y Danzas ‘Villa de Madridejos’ materialmente el próximo 15 de noviembre en Albacete.

El alcalde de Madridejos, José Antonio Contreras Nieves, también hizo entrega al presidente de la asociación de un obsequio que representaba el escudo de Madridejos y que ocupará un lugar en la vitrina de trofeos conseguidos por esta asociación.

El presidente de la Asociación de Coros y Danzas ‘Villa de Madridejos’, Pablo Gómez, intervino diciendo sentirse satisfecho con la herencia de este grupo y destacó algunos de los momentos más emblemáticos de esta asociación, e intervino en la tanda de agradecimientos a los actuales miembros de la asociación, los que han pasado por ella y en la mención que se hizo a título póstumo a los ya fallecidos.

El evento estuvo organizado por dicha asociación en colaboración con el Ayuntamiento de Madridejos y la Diputación de Toledo, y asistieron grupos de folclores de la Comunidad de Castilla La Mancha y Madrid.

De quinceañeras a un grupo cohesionado

La fecha exacta de creación del grupo se desconoce, aunque se ha recabado de un programa de festejos del Ayuntamiento de Madridejos que con motivo de la celebración de «el primer aniversario de la Victoria», el 1 de abril de 1940, la Asociación de Coros y Danzas ‘Villa de Madridejos’, entonces grupo, hacía su primera actuación en este municipio.

El grupo estuvo gestionado por la sección femenina en sus principios, con la peculiaridad de que las chicas no podían tener más de 20 años porque estaba mal visto y todas rondaban los quince años. Fue en 1967 cuando entró el primer grupo de chicos.

La actuación más importante del grupo, en sus inicios, tuvo lugar en 1947 en la muestra de bailes regionales que se ofreció el Toledo a Eva Perón en la visita que hizo a España.

El grupo participó en distintos concursos, que entonces se hacía entre los grupos de folclore, donde se medía la destreza e importancia del los grupos que participaban.

La asociación ha viajado dentro y fuera de España llevando el folclore de La Mancha e incluso fueron invitados por Televisión Española en el programa Gente Joven en la final de grupos de folk donde actuaron con una rondeña.

Con motivo de su 50 aniversario abrieron un chiringuito con motivo de las Ferias y Fiestas en honor al Santísimo Cristo del Prado de Madridejos con cuya recaudación consiguieron costear la sede que actualmente tienen.

El grupo mantiene, tras 75 años de trabajo, una cohesión que ha hecho historia en el municipio de Madridejos tal y como dejaron reflejado sus componentes en esta gala.

(Paul Components shifter mounts) Had an assignment to shoot the best bike trails in our county as chosen by reader's, but got the assignment right when I went to M-F day shift, so finding folks out actually riding was tough, so I pitched the Monster on the car, loaded a backpack with a camera body, lenses, brackets, arms, a big and tabletop tripod, radio remotes and headed out on the trail for some self-portraits to illustrate the article.

 

Had a blast, hated the heavy pack on my back, recipe for disaster for me or the gear, especially with that arm hanging out to one side of the bike, but emerged unscathed.
