Viñales is a small town and municipality in the north central Pinar del Río Province of westernmost Cuba. The town consists mostly of one-story wooden houses with lovely porches.
The municipality is dominated by low mountain ranges of the Cordillera de Guaniguanico such as Sierra de los Órganos. Typical outcrops known as mogotes complete the karstic character of the landscape. The community is a part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Our DATAC contractors Swift Roofing have just completed this installation of a Liveroof green modular roof on a bin store at Scholar’s Court, Anerly, for Taylor Wimpey.
The store is part of a mixed housing scheme, and a green roof was chosen for its aesthetic qualities, as nearby flats overlook the area. Liveroof was the most cost effective solution, and enabled Swift Roofing to install 80m2 of green roofing in just three hours.

This was a complete collection of cards I was asked to make. It also includes some gift tags. Made using a variety of papers from my stash, buttons, and dies.

I just thought these were too cute when I saw the pattern.
We made a last minute stop at an estate sale (which are so rare around here!) and nothing was really left, but this beauty was hiding behind some jewelry boxes. I clutched it and asked how much and when the lady said $5.00, my boyfriend was already reaching for his wallet, and then the lady sdaid, "But I'll take $4.00." Sounds good!
This is marked #775-B (9 cups).
I paid: $4.00.
We scavenged some cornstalks that the Park District was taking down, they made for a great entryway.
Cave of the Demon construction -- October 2014
So I decided to get more interesting motives. One way would be taking portraits of strangers. This is my first time actively asking somebody for permission to take their picture.
I spent the whole day looking for interesting people, wondering how I was going to approach them. This needed to be different to the secretive shot-in-a-crowd picture. I know that I'm only good with people I know, somehow it helps find the right moment.
So not only did I want their permission, I also needed to find out something about them beforehand.
The picture didn't work out quite that way; I took an easy route. Anna sells newspapers, and she was the only friendly person in the subway station. After passing her, I turned around, bought a paper. I told her of my dilemma, that I had been worrying about failing on the first day of my own assignment.
I guess buying the newspaper wasn't really cheating, as it helped me talk to her, but it definitely was an excuse.
The shot took only a minute, I was too nervous talking to a complete stranger, so finding a good light and neutral background didn't allow much waiting for a more personal expression.
On the other hand, the portrait captures what made me stop and walk back in the first place, an earnest smile. Thank you, Anna.
Renovations are finally complete on our new sales, service and production facility and to celebrate we held a long overdue Ribbon Cutting Ceremony featuring fabulous food and entertainment, lot’s of local celebrities and what Millennium event would be complete without a First Class tour of some amazing Prevost coaches by our very on Vonna? With several thousand dollars in prizes and a silent auction to benefit the Ronald McDonald House we counted it a hugely successful evening!
And I claim no credit. My wife made these, having seen similar displayed in a country restaurant. I provided the music from a collection of old and damaged campmeeting songbooks.
Congratulations to the 10 Soldiers from the 644th Regional Support Group, who completed the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge, throughout the week of March 19-23, 2018:
Lt. Col. Kirk Soland, Capt. Seth Johnson, Sgt. First Class Robert Mclaughlin, Capt. Gibson Banton, Chaplain (Capt.) Bradley Wysomierski, Spec. Brandon Schroepfer, Maj. Cameron Winter, Maj. Charles Anthony Donley, Staff Sgt. Adam Nosbush, Spec. Alec Scofield
All Soldiers were required to earn at least a Bronze standing in each event in order to receive a badge and certificate at the end of the competition. The events included a valid First Aid certification within three years, a fitness test, pistol qualification, and a road march.
The fitness test began on Monday, with a 100 meter swim. Many of the participants expressed that this was the most difficult event and Tuesday was blocked off for another try at the swim. Wednesday included three track events, which consisted of a 110 meter shuttle run, a hanging pull-up (total time), and a 1000 meter run. Onto a 9mm pistol qualification on Thursday, where participants needed to each target at least once for bronze and five hits for gold. The final event was the roadmarch, seven miles, carrying a minimum of 33 pounds.
The week concluded with an award ceremony. In all, every Soldier in the 644th RSG earned at least a Silver medal and will be authorized to wear the German Armed Forces badge on their ASU.
My engagement ring and my wedding ring on top of it.
Some of you know the story of my elephant ring. When I first saw the ring and chose it, I didn't realize the pattern was actually four elephants. When I figured them out I started to think they represent our family - even though our family was just the two of us and at that point I thought we were not going to have kids.
Now, five years later, we have a family of four and I feel complete.
Life's pretty amazing. Sometimes I think it really does its best to tell us things we don't see ourselves.
Some cultures share a belief that elephants are lucky creatures.
