D26693vs. Worm's Head on The Gower in South Wales is an off shore headland, connected to the mainland by a rocky causeway. But this causeway is only passable at low tide, so care is needed when crossing to make sure that there is sufficient time to return before the tide comes in again. People often get stranded over there - and this includes the famous Welsh poet Dylan Thomas!

On the occasion of my visit the tide came in and Worm's Head causeway rapidly disappeared under the rising waters. Several people were cut off and stranded on Worm’s Head so the coastguards called out the inshore lifeboat to come and rescue them.

Mission completed, the RNLI inshore lifeboat turns for home.

This area has the World’s second highest tidal range which can be up to 49 feet / 15 metres and more details of Worm's Head can be found here:

Many years ago I completed a post graduate course [organised and paid for by the EU] in Unix at this college and I must admit that it was an unusual experience.

St Patrick's College, Maynooth ( is the "National Seminary for Ireland" (a Roman Catholic college), and a Pontifical University, located in the village of Maynooth, 24 km (15 mi) from Dublin, Ireland.

The college and seminary are often referred to as Maynooth College. The college was officially established as the Royal College of St Patrick by an Act of Grattan's Parliament in 1795. Thomas Pelham, the Chief Secretary for Ireland, introduced his Bill for the foundation of a Catholic college, and this was enacted by Parliament. It was opened to train 500 Catholic priests every year, and was once the largest seminary in the world.

In the past decades intakes has been decreasing in line with the wider fall in vocations across the Western developed world, with a record low in 2017 of six first year seminarians. This fall was due, in part, to the decision of the Archbishop of Dublin, Diarmuid Martin, to transfer Dublin seminarians to the Irish College in Rome. He did not state his reasons, but there had been unease over accusations of inappropriate behaviour among seminarians in Maynooth. However the 2017 drop may also be explained in part by the Irish Bishops' collective decision, in line with a new Holy See directive, to channel successful applicants for priestly formation into a new so-called propadeutic year before entering seminary. Eight students from the 2017 national intake were thus sent for a year of propadeutic studies in Spain.

Degrees are awarded by the Pontifical University at Maynooth, which was established by a pontifical charter of 1896. The Pontifical charter entitles the university to grant degrees in canon law, philosophy and theology.

The college is associated with the separate Maynooth University.

This is Alex's Junk Revolution project for his Gardening class at school. He was tasked to build something out of household materials that would otherwise be thrown out. He used a wire shirt hanger, old fence plank, Starbucks Frappuccino bottle, and a can of tuna to build this bird feeder. The idea was copied off of a web blogger who made a similar feeder. Alex's was slightly modified by using a clothes hanger, and bottle cap.

.....and a full swear box!

Ok, I missed one. I was at the Mad Men theme party last night, taking pictures. It's a lame excuse, but honestly: I couldn't be bothered to talk up some stranger after taking pictures for hours.

Most photos were taken either on request, or, more often, when the moment was right. Party pictures.

This image was different; I had seen her at the same party before, and already tried to snatch a pic, but it didn't work. So yesterday I told her that I was going to take another one later on. The guy didn't look like he was going to enjoy me small talking, so I let them carry on instead.

Oh, her name is not Molly, but she reminds me of Molly Ringwald.

Went away for 2 weeks and came back to find windows and fire exit door had been fitted and the building was completely bricked up.

May construction progress on the region's premier science center.

Dreyfuss + Blackford Architecture’s design for the Powerhouse Science Center re-envisions a historic riverfront structure as a hub for science education, exploration and promotion in the City of Sacramento. On the banks of the Sacramento River, the Science Center grows out from an abandoned power station building. As a principal component of the Riverfront activation, the Powerhouse Science Center anchors Robert T. Matsui Waterfront Park and borders the southern terminus of the 32-mile American River Bike Trail.

Vacant for over half a century, the structure undergoes a complete historic rehabilitation and the construction of a new floor level inside. A new two-story addition projects from the east side, containing a lobby, classrooms, offices and a cafe. A 110-seat planetarium is prominently on display with a zinc-clad hemispheric dome rising above the building’s mass. As representation of our place in the universe, the facade and building mass is sectioned by multiple planes, creating continuous vector lines that extend across the building and site. From satellites to world landmarks, the lines form connections with local and global points of interest.

The original PG&E Power Station B was designed in 1912 in the Beaux Arts Style by architect Willis Polk and was formally closed in 1954. It is on the National Register of Historic Places, California Register of Historic Places and the Sacramento Register of Historic & Cultural Resources. The Powerhouse Science Center is designed to achieve a USGBC LEED Rating of Silver.
