Or, in this case, Common Gas Station-Martin. Kudos to the gas station owner: they left the nests when they painted.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL First few test shots with the Micro Four Thirds camera.

I returned to this reserve hoping that the bee orchids were now out and of course hoping to see dragonflies in particular.

As it happens there were quite a few bee orchids, though they still seemed only starting to flower and not in great condition generally.

I met a guy there who pointed this out to me and said that it was an orchid. Apparently they don't flower in colour but it was still worth a photo.

I was told the ID but do not recall it! Thus the actual ID would be welcome.

Common Darter ( Sympetrum striolatum)

As it's name suggests this dragonfly is very abundant in England. It breeds in still water, even stagnant ponds, and can be seen well into November.

The males become a bright orange-red with maturity with small black spots near the end of its abdomen.

Females have a pale, yellowish-brown abdomen often developing red markings along the segment boundaries and medial line as they age.

I've added a photograph of the female in the comments section.

Thank you for your kind comments, faves and invites. Your visit to my photostream is very much appreciated.

Wishing you a wonderful Friday and weekend ahead :)

The second Common Lizard I have ever seen in Britain and my garden. Warming itself up, not that all this rain could have been much good for some of our amphibians! At this time of year, July or August, the female Common Lizards give birth to up to 11 babies. Seal, Kent. (Thanks to all those who fav the photo, really appreciated!)

The common toad is one of the most misunderstood animals of the European fauna. Its stubby appearance, clumsy movements and slimy skin generate an irrational rejection in many people. However, it is one of our most valuable allies in the fight against the annoying nocturnal insects that it hunts and eats anxiously during its long nocturnal runs. This origami model emerged from the search for heads with bulging eyes in the frenzy that follows an AEP Convention. It is simple and at the same time it is a perfect model to fold with a 15x15cm Kami.

These are shots of Common Goldeneye from the open water at Goldbar Park here. It is always fun to try to catch these guys in flight. They fly very fast. I caught these males just before lift off.

In addition to more Goldeneye shots, I have also included a shot of a Common Merganser at the same location because I have never seen one on the river in winter.

Images from Beaumaris Lake yesterday. There have been at least 10 Loons at Beaumaris Lake over the past few days. This one surfaced pretty close to me.

On the way in to the path around the lake, a Townsend's Solitaire flew to a low branch and posed nicely for me - see comment box.
