Common Chuckwalla (Sauromalus obesus). Panamint Valley, near Towne Pass. Death Valley National Park. Inyo Co., Calif.

The adult male has a long dark bill with a grey band, a red head and neck, a black breast, red eyes and a grey back. The adult female has a brown head and body and a narrower grey bill-band. The triangular head shape is distinctive. Pochards are superficially similar to the closely related North American redhead and canvasback.
Females give hoarse growls. Males have whistles cut off by a final nasal note aaoo-oo-haa.
The mate to the handsome fellow in the previous post. Fun to watch this pair from a small bridge above the Courtenay River, diving below the clear water for fish - so stream-lined, fast and fluid but hard on head feathers.

A Common Murre or Turr as it is known locally seen on the cliffs of Cape St. Mary's, Newfoundland. This particular bird exhibits the ringed colouring around the eyes that not all have. This seabird colony can have up to 70,000 birds during breeding season.
Common Heath is a day flying moth which feeds on heathers and clovers. Ramsley Moor, Derbyshire Peak District.

Common Nighthawks are medium-sized, slender birds with very long, pointed wings and medium-long tails. Only the small tip of the bill is usually visible, and this combined with the large eye and short neck gives the bird a big-headed look.Common Nighthawks are easiest to see in flight at dawn and dusk as they forage for aerial insects.
I stayed local this evening and found a honey hole of male Common Mergansers. I'll be doing more shots of them when I get a chance.
I am still hearing Common Yellowthroat calling in some areas. I suspect it is not just a mating call perhaps it is a territory call.

Common Coot / fulica atra. Kirk Hallam, Derbyshire. 27/02/21.
'INDUSTRIOUS.'
Some beautiful springlike weather had kick started a pair of Coots into nest building in late February. This bird had found a place to collect thin Willow twigs some distance away from the nest platform. I watched it make repeat journeys to and fro across the lake. Here it's captured off to collect another twig immediately after delivering one to it's mate.
