Common Frogs are amphibians, coming to ponds to breed during the spring and spending much of the rest of the year feeding on dry land, in woodland, gardens, hedgerows and tussocky grassland. Frogs are a familiar inhabitant of garden ponds, where they lay their eggs in big clumps of spawn. They feed on a variety of invertebrates and smaller amphibians. Females are bigger than males.
A trip to WWT Slimbridge mid October. Weather was sunny intervals.
Another Common Snipe by the edge of the Rushy Pen Lagoon.
Common Snipe are medium sized, skulking wading birds with short legs and long straight bills.
Normally quite elusive.

A male Common Yellowthroat peers out of an alder tangle on Brier Island, Nova Scotia. These warblers skulk around in a variety of brushy and marshy habitats throughout North and Central America.
Common Coot / fulica atra. Straws Bridge, Derbyshire. 08/02/21.
Despite a frozen lake surface, this bird had several spats with another Coot. I witnessed noisy interactions and ungainly chasing over the ice which always resulted in the 'intruder' skittering further away.
There were no physical attacks, yet if the image is viewed large, there looks to be dried blood on the Coot's beak.

Common Moorhen / gallinula chloropus. Kirk Hallam, Derbyshire. 27/02/21.
An easy to recognise individual because of the scarring on it's red forehead plate. Maybe the result of a fight with another bird or perhaps a physical defect/disease? It did seem rather lethargic despite it's bright eyes, so maybe an old bird?

One of two types of blue butterfly seen in Watts Meadow today. The other was a holly blue - both looking lovely in the sunshine.
...back on Exmoor again today chasing the rare Two-barred Crossbill. I got some amazing views of the Common Xbills. :@)
Common silverline is the species of blue butterfly found in Asia. These butterflies have yellow with reddish ban bordered by black or brown. These ban have center silverline. Thats why they are known as Common Silverline. They prefer lightly wooded areas and open garden also. Their flight is fast. They basically seen during May to October month.

I was expecting to see a lot more Common Mergansers than these few, but they could have been hidden in with all the other waterfowl.
A couple of the footpaths in the reserve were a few inches underwater and as I made my way along one of them, I suddenly spotted some toads! Some submerged, but this one was just floating there, so I was able to get quite close!

The Common Merganser flapping and showing off - I'm sure. (I don't know where it got the name "Common"? Looks very uncommonly beautiful to me!)
