Actitis hypoleucos. Almost stuck in the mud! Another with the Nikon 300 PF + 1.4x TC. Tophill Low, East Yorkshire.

Not so common here. This is the first redpoll I've ever seen at my feeder. Not the best pictures but at least I have proof it was here. The last day of October, there were 2 White winged Crossbills at our waterfall (another first) and I didn't get my camera fast enough to capture them. They never came back. So I wanted to be sure to get this redpoll in case it doesn't stick around.

Sebastian County, Arkansas, USA

Paid a visit to one of the local daytime gull roosts once again yesterday morning in the hopes that the recent stormy weather might have bought in some more unusual species for MK. I only managed to identify the usual types in the end but it was still a great morning for being there.

Most of them stayed on the field nearby resting but every now and then a lot of them would take to the skies, either fighting over food or heading to the nearby landfill, which was when I got this Common Gull flying past. I’ve got loads of shots of these in flight but this is the best I’ve managed of this species to date.

Common Buzzard (Buteo buteo) is a medium to large bird of prey, whose range covers most of Europe.

Autumn leaves and an autumn dragonfly specialist, the common darter can be found in flight well into November. All throughout October so far I've seen many still in the throws of mating.

Sunday Afternoon & the weather cleared up nicely (it had poured all morning) Spent some time at the Wildlife lookout, with lovely views of a common tern hunting behind up and a Little Egret fishing in front of us... Common Baron.

Euthalia aconthea.

These lay eggs on the mango tree leaves (Mangifera indica), and once I happened to see one emerging from a pupa, dangling from a mango leaf. I was unfortunate then, with my camera back in my room.

Shinnecock Inlet. Long Island, New York.

I was happy to find this beautiful duck on a blustery winter day on Long Island. He was having no problem in the 20 degree weather and 15 knot wind - I wasn't doing as well!
