The common moorhen lives around well-vegetated marshes, ponds, canals and other wetlands.

A Common Kestrel (Falco tinnunculus tinnunculus) flies above me as I return home after spending a day at the 2023 RAF Cosford Air Show.
I'd spent all day photographing aircraft and to be honest, in the challenging conditions, I was more pleased with how this image came out!
Its range covers much of North America and some of Central America. Its habitat is open areas with low vegetation and some bare ground. Adult butterflies feed on flowers with certain pollinator cues: yellow flowers that are 'pre-change', or flowers whose color has not been changed due to insect visitation or other factors. Their wingspan is typically between 2 and 2.5 inches (5 - 6.5 cm).
The common blue (Polyommatus icarus) is a butterfly in the family Lycaenidae, widespread over much of the Palaearctic in temperate Asia and Europe.

I had been invited to a restricted area in South Florida and saw more Nighthawks than I had ever seen in my life. It was a really neat experience.
I thought the camera was adding a gray halo to the yellow beak, but there is actually a small gray edge on the beak.
Nothing really special about this one but it is the first time I caught a good shot of this species semi out in the open. So was a happy moment for me.

Common Darter (Sympetrum striolatum) male.
These dragonflies are braver than most and not so easily spooked. This one was seen perched on a plant in my pond, and although it's named the Common Darter, I see very few in my garden. I do see them in abundance when I go out and about though.
Shot with my D70, a camera that can be picked up for less than £200 these days. As you can see, it's still a more than capable camera.

The Common Merganser

This male Common Goldeneye dove repeatedly in a small backwater near the footbridge at Edelweiss Slough, part of the Columbia Valley Wetlands near the town of Golden, British Columbia. I enjoyed watching it and taking photographs for quite a while: a striking bird in a beautiful setting.

First trip of 2022 was to WWT Slimbridge on 5th Jan. Weather was fine and there was plenty of Bird activity.
It was also really great to catch up with fellow photographers some of who i hadn’t seen for 2+ years or more. I also met some new photographers. It really was a good start to the year.

The Common Pochard is a medium-sized diving duck.
In winter and spring, male Pochards are very distinctive. They have a bright reddish-brown head, a black breast and tail and a pale grey body.
