The last several years when I have seen Common Yellowthroat almost always it has been the male. This morning this one had several interested males following it around. A rarity only in gender.

Trying out the Tamron 1.4 teleconverter on the 150-600.

Shot at iso 5,600, f9, (wide open), 1/1250 equivalent of 1,125mm. I think it worked out really well.

The Common Stilt (or Black-winged Stilt) is another resident of the big aviary at our zoo. I think they have a very cute face and these red eyes are quite striking.

Another common bird at Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge is the White-faced Ibis. Every morning when approaching the refuge, we saw large flocks of them flying around looking for the best places to forage. It's a bit tricky to get a good shot of one though. The brightness and angle of light has to be just right to get the iridescence to show up on their plumage and

to illuminate their namesake white face.

Common Goldeneye taking off

A female Common Blue resting on a grass seed head on the North Downs.

It had been a few years since I had seen a Common Redpoll. Still think the name does not match the bird.

I see lots of these blooming in all sorts of places now. People have become aware of how important these are to pollinators, especially the beloved Monarch butterfly, so they are treated differently than just a few years ago.

Flowers in clusters, blooms approximately 1 cm across with unusual twisted anthers.

Common Buzzard:

This is the most common and widespread bird of prey in the UK. They are relatively large with broad, rounded wings and a short neck and tail. They often hold their wings in a shallow 'V' when gliding and soaring.
