I was really pleased to get such a colourful photograph of a Common Blue butterfly.
The Common Woodpigeon (Columba palumbus), also known as ring dove is very common. With a wingspan of more than 70 cm and a weight of about 500 g the ring dove is our largest pidgeon species in Europe - and I think it's beautiful.

This image shows the long toes of Common Gallinule. This individual was the first of its species that I saw in Canada. That was in April, 2024, at Cranberry Lake in the Woodlawn neighbourhood of the city of Dartmouth, Halifax County. (I lived in various places in Nova Scotia over the years, but mostly before I really got into birding in the mid-1980s, and I never saw anything like this back then.)

I eventually found some common blues this spring last week. Quite a few were looking quite old so they must have been around a little while they just managed to avoid me!
Saw this today out on one of the ponds on Bookham Common - got the bike out today for the first time for ages .

I went past this spot and there was a duck walking on water - on my way back there was still a duck walking on water ( same one or not , I do not Know ) ,so a shot was order of the day .

Toads from a small Bedfordshire pond. I was recording their calls on that day which lead me to researching their calls. It seems the tonal differences denote the age of the male toads. Also the temperature of the water can change the length of the calls. It's great to learn something new every day.
Common Redshank is a species known for at-times strident vocalizations, but I like to interpret this image as suggesting the bird was telling us “gangi þér vel” (good bye) at the end of our wonderful visit to Iceland. This final image for my Iceland album was taken at a pond near Garður. That town is on the Reykjanes Peninsula in the region of Suðurnes (not far from the Keflavík International Airport near the capital Reykjavík).
