This common kestrel was surprised to see me watching her for about 30 seconds from a short distance. Once she saw me she took off...

Common Tern / sterna hirundo. Straws Bridge, Derbyshire. 16/05/20.

The image shows a pair of Common Terns who returned to a breeding lake in mid-May. They discovered the tern raft was fully occupied with nesting Black-headed Gulls. Despite them launching noisy aerial attacks from every angle over a two day period, the gulls would not be shifted and so they moved on. I think it was only to another body of water locally, because they were seen making brief visits most days.

While in the Ndutu region of Tanzania this past February we often saw Common Kestrels hovering over the plains as they hunted for small rodents. On this morning we found them filling the trees. This one allowed us to get close for some golden light portraits. February 3, 2017

Common Starling / sturnus vulgaris. Yorkshire. 11/06/25.

A juvenile Starling captured weighing up its options.

One of my favorite birds to photograph when I am lucky enough to see them. I liked the color of this water.

This is a common crow butterfly at The Butterfly Place in Westford, Massachusetts. I visited there to try out a circular polarizer filter on my 105mm macro lens.

Common Agapanthus; Some species of Agapanthus are commonly known as lily of the Nile, or African lily in the UK. However, they are not lilies

Common Kingfisher - Alcedo Atthis

Die vermeintlich letzten schönen Sommertage verleiteten mich noch einmal zum Eisvogelplatz zu gehen.

I was tempted by the last summer days to go to the kingfisher place one more time.

Common Blackbird

≠==================≠

Backyard Blackie has been sitting these past couple of weeks, through the hottest of days and the wettests and windiest of storms.

Now she's feeding.

I made the mistake of not taking a shorter lens when I went out to give her a handful of sultanas. She just kept getting closer.

Common Spotted Orchid / dactylorhiza fuchsii. Strumpshaw Fen, Norfolk. 07/06/17.

‘SOME BLASTS FROM THE PAST.’ (6)

Another image made two years ago at Strumpshaw Fen. The CSO was growing in the damp wildflower meadow with a few others.

As my visit was early in the season, the orchids were only just emerging and the meadow was not at its most vibrant. It was still a great habitat to spend ‘mooching time’ in though enjoying bird song, butterfly and dragonfly fly pasts.

BEST VIEWED LARGE.

Common Buzzard.

Buteo Buteo. Sorry another one.
