Common Kingfisher - Alcedo Atthis
Die vermeintlich letzten schönen Sommertage verleiteten mich noch einmal zum Eisvogelplatz zu gehen.
I was tempted by the last summer days to go to the kingfisher place one more time.

Backyard Blackie has been sitting these past couple of weeks, through the hottest of days and the wettests and windiest of storms.
Now she's feeding.
I made the mistake of not taking a shorter lens when I went out to give her a handful of sultanas. She just kept getting closer.

‘SOME BLASTS FROM THE PAST.’ (6)
Another image made two years ago at Strumpshaw Fen. The CSO was growing in the damp wildflower meadow with a few others.
As my visit was early in the season, the orchids were only just emerging and the meadow was not at its most vibrant. It was still a great habitat to spend ‘mooching time’ in though enjoying bird song, butterfly and dragonfly fly pasts.

A bit of a story here. Sometimes I go to the pond before sunrise to look for otters and mink. The tally for the winter so far is one otter sighting, one mink sighting, and zero photos to show for it. In past years when the mammals don't show, there have almost always been ducks to enjoy once the light gets good. Not so this year when the pond has sadly been duckless most of the time. That is until this lovely Goldeneye hen showed up. I was hoping she would stick around for the good light and she did. This is actually my first ever photo of a female persuasion Common Goldeneye. 'STANDING PROUD, UNUSUALLY BOLD.'
This splendid male Linnet, in his bright breeding plumage was standing watch as his mate drank from a puddle. I was struck by his small pointed, leaf-shaped crown feathers. I only noticed them when I viewed the image on the computer.

I just realized, it has been quite a while since i posted the last animal shot..
So i looked for a shot with some nice warm colors and a animal in it..
I found this wildlife shot of a female common goldeneye with some nice fall colors in a beautiful evening light...

A visit to Carburn Park was in order this morning after a visit to my dentist.
The new camera has way more buttons and sometimes I was hitting them by accident. This will be a learning curve.

This is a female common whitetail. It is a female. I saw quite a few of these on my walk near the Waxahachie Creek.

The Common Mergansers have been regular visitors at Quidi Vidi Lake in recent weeks. Sometimes there are as many as Eight Mergansers there. The small strip of open water close to shore offers excellent close photo opportunities and they don't seem to be bothered by people walking by.
