The eastern end of the village green in Redbourn, Hertfordshire. In Redbourn, the village green is still common property, roughly equivalent to what in Germany used to be called the "Allmende". I met a woman who could still remember that, in her childhood, people would have their geese feed on the Common. Things have changed since then, but what did not change is that villagers are free to use this space - these days, for leisure. Fuji X-Pro1 plus Fujinon XF 1.4/35.

I spent the past week north of Huntsville Ontario at a cottage on Loon Lake. With a pair of nesting loons not far away, I would have to say the lake was aptly titled. I would have to say that the Loon is one of my favourite birds. I just love their feather pattern, their deep red eyes and their beautiful call.

A couple mornings while there I headed out on the kayak with camera in tow (praying all the while that I didn't upend myself) and headed out to where the loons were nesting. Saturday morning turned out to be the nicest day by far as the sky was clear and the lake was as smooth as glass.

Here is the first shot from that trip...Hope you enjoy.

The common starling (sturnus vilgaris) has iridescent plumage that is not to visible against the palo verde blossoms. Captured at the beautiful Gilbert Water Ranch, a great place for birding. The starling was raucous and ruffled over my intrusion.

As always, thanks so much for stopping by.
