These are normally quite difficult to photograph as they are almost always in depp shade. However, with the reflection off the snow on the ground yesterday, they were quite well illuminated

I found this Common Merganser resting on the rocks at public boat launch just past Harrison Hotsprings. She did some nice poses for me and the light was good enough to get some nice photos.
Polyommatus Icarus
As the name suggests one of the most common blue butterflies found in the British Isles, apart from Shetland and the mountainous regions of Scotland and Wales. Very common on Orkney it would seem, which is where this one is, on the cliff side path at Hoxa Head on South Ronaldsay.
It has a wingspan of between 29 and 36mm. The male has bright blue upper sides, whilst the female is mostly brown with varying amounts of blue.

The viviparous lizard, or common lizard lives further north than any other species of non-marine reptile.
Taken in Norfolk with the Laowa RF100mm f2.8 2x macro lens at f11.
I went to my Common Merganser honey hole this evening and had an abundance of cooperative Mergansers.

A day out photographing Kingfishers. It was likely to be the last chance of 2021. The light was dull to start with but improved during the afternoon.
A further long wait for both the better light and the Kingfisher to return.
Just stood there waiting for me.

The common warthog (Phacochoerus africanus) is a wild member of the pig family (Suidae) found in grassland, savanna, and woodland in sub-Saharan Africa.
The common warthog is the only pig species that has adapted to grazing and savanna habitats. Its diet is omnivorous, composed of grasses, roots, berries and other fruits, bark, fungi, insects, eggs and carrion. During the wet seasons, warthogs graze on short perennial grasses. During the dry seasons, they subsist on bulbs, rhizomes, and nutritious roots.
Although they can dig their own burrows, they commonly occupy abandoned burrows of aardvarks and other animals. The common warthog reverses into burrows, with its head facing the opening and ready to burst out if necessary.
Although capable of fighting (males aggressively fight each other during mating season), the common warthog's primary defense is to flee by means of fast sprinting. The common warthog's main predators are humans, lions, leopards, cheetahs, crocodiles, wild dogs and hyenas.
Common warthogs are not territorial, but instead occupy a home range. Common warthogs live in groups called sounders. Females live in sounders with their young and with other females. Subadult males associate in bachelor groups, but live alone when they become adults. – Wikipedia

This female showed at her best when she perched on top of a Hawthorn hedge. In better light, she showed her true colours and I could better appreciate the amount of brown feathers on her crown, nape and ear coverts.

Individual milkweed flowers are sometimes not really noticed because they are part of the larger round cluster of flowers, but for some reason I ran across a plant where one of the flowers seemed to be pushing the others for dominance.
Female Common Duiker, Grootfontein district, Otjozondjupa - Namibia
The Common Duiker also known as the Gray Duiker or Bush Duiker, is a small antelope. It grows to about 50 cm in height and weighs 15 to 25 kg.
They do not occur in forests, although they will take refuge in forests when hiding from a predator. Widely distributed in Southern Africa but absent from desert regions.
The Common Duiker is usually seen at dawn and dusk in open scrub country.
