As you walk down some of the streets of the city you cannot help but be taken by the incredible poverty all around you. I came across this young boy taking a bath outside of his home which is little more than a patch-work of wooden boards, bits of plastic and a tin roof held down by old tires. He was taking a bath out of a large bowl and singing to himself and did not seem to mind the traveler with a camera interrupting him.

Automobile companies contributing to the war effort by aiding in weapons manufacture was not a new thing. Nevertheless, Continental Motors surprised American news agencies when it announced in 1983 that it would be submitting a design for upcoming military weapons trials.
The Mark 1 received much criticism, many papers commented that Continental had gone about building a gun like it was a motor, more fit to be strapped to four wheels then held by two hands. A military officer commented, "I thought we gave our soldiers guns, not clubs." Yet despite the Mark 1's heavy, bulky shape, it proved itself well in the trials. It was certainly not as pretty as the Browning P69, the other front runner of the trials, nor did it have the propaganda appeal of the Browning, but the heavy weight and muzzle device allowed the Continental machine pistol to be easily controlled at a fire rate far higher than the competition.
Cheap to manufacture, high fire rate, and great control made it a serious contender. Ultimately, money would do the talking, and the Army selected the Mark 1 over the far more expensive P69. The Continental Motors Mark 1 would go into service in 1984, as hostilities began to break out once more.

The relentless pursuit of likes and comments on the Instagram (yes, "the" Instagram) gets me down sometimes, and it's become apparent that the stuff people want to see is not photos of streetcars and ferries and cityscapes (the stuff I like to post); they want to see pictures of people. Or the algorithm is burying posts that don't have people, and pushing posts that do. Or they just want to see pictures of the bébé, and it feels like my art (my photography) doesn't matter anymore.
But I read something yesterday that said to keep making art even when no one cares. So I continue. And people on Flickr seem to like my art, so that's something.
I also remember that it doesn't really give lasting happiness if one of my pics gets a lot more likes than usual. I like when that happens, but it doesn't bring about a lasting sense of satisfaction. I always want more. I am pseudo-addicted to social media and that's the way they want it to be. I bet some of you are, too.
In any case, meaningful comments mean more to me than likes.

Rainbow Bee-eater
Scientific Name: Merops ornatus
The Rainbow Bee-Eater is a spectacular bird. With its green, blue, chestnut and yellow plumage, its slim build, slender curved bill and distinctive streamers that extend from the end of its tail, it is simply beautiful. Bee-Eaters are a familiar sight in many lightly-timbered parts of mainland Australia, where they often perch on fence-posts or overhead wires, then launch after flying insects, flying swiftly, sometimes with rapid twists and turns, before snapping the insect in its bill, and returning to the perch to eat it. Research featured in the 'State of Australia's Birds 2015' headline and regional reports shows a marked decline for the Rainbow Bee-eater (and some other aerial insectivories) in the East Coast region, where reporting rates for this species have dropped by over 50% in the since 2001.
Description: A striking, colourful bird, the Rainbow Bee-eater is medium sized, with a long slim curved bill and a long tail with distinctive tail-streamers. It has a golden crown and a red eye set in a wide black stripe from the base of the bill to the ears, which is edged with a thin blue line. The throat is orange-yellow, with a broad black band separating it from a green breast. The upperparts are green, with the flight feathers coppery and black tipped. The underwings are bright orange, with a black edge. The lower abdomen is blue. The tail is black, including the long tail streamers, with a blue tinge. Females have shorter, thicker tail streamers than males, but are otherwise similar. Young birds are duller and greener, lacking the black band on the chest and the long tail streamers.
Similar Species: The Rainbow Bee-eater may resemble some kingfishers, however these are plumper, with strong straight beaks, and never catch prey in flight.
Distribution: The Rainbow Bee-eater is found throughout mainland Australia, as well as eastern Indonesia, New Guinea and, rarely, the Solomon Islands. In Australia it is widespread, except in desert areas, and breeds throughout most of its range, although southern birds move north to winter over.
Habitat: The Rainbow Bee-eater is most often found in open forests, woodlands and shrublands, and cleared areas, usually near water. It will be found on farmland with remnant vegetation and in orchards and vineyards. It will use disturbed sites such as quarries, cuttings and mines to build its nesting tunnels.
Feeding: Rainbow Bee-eaters eat insects, mainly catching bees and wasps, as well as dragonflies, beetles, butterflies and moths. They catch flying insects on the wing and carry them back to a perch to beat them against it before swallowing them. Bees and wasps are rubbed against the perch to remove the stings and venom glands.
Breeding: Rainbow Bee-eaters gather in small flocks before returning to summer breeding areas after over-wintering in the north (apart from the resident northern populations). Both males and females select a suitable nesting site in a sandy bank and dig a long tunnel (average length: 89.4 cm) leading to a nesting chamber, which is often lined with grasses. Both parents incubate the eggs and both feed the young, sometimes with the assistance of auxiliaries (helpers).

Social Huntsman Spiders or delena cancerides
As far as spiders go this species from the Huntsman Spider family of Spiders are very interesting to me. This one being an adult male has left the colony he was raised in and started a life on his own searching for a female to start his own colony with.
As I have mentioned in a previous post about these they live together and share food with one another. There is a breeding female that can end up getting quite large.
I find the stigma surrounding spiders to be unfortunate. If treated with respect they do not want to bite you.
I enjoy making art with them to show the amazing bits we do not see and hope to bring about positive education by my involvement and interactions with them.
These 2 images of this adult male where made while it was standing on a piece of picture frame glass.
He did not move. I moved my background from one side to the other and he was not fussed about any of that. He would not accept my food offering in the form of a cricket.
Most male spiders once an adult loose interest in food and have reproduction on the mind.

I had a lovely evening out with my dear friend Andrew. We went to Cognac for amazing French food then took a walk to Prince's Avenue and had drinks in 80 Days Bierhaus. A lovely evening!

I woke this morning and said the Lords Prayer as I do every day. I grumbled and started rolling out of bed with the pain train coming into the station before my feet even hit the floor. I put my snazzy macro shooting outfit on and made my bed. Had my cuppa and got all I needed and headed out (still dark)
As I was walking along my undies started falling down. Yes I had pants on. It was a bit annoying but there was no way I was heading back to change them. I first Photographed a wasp and then a Native Green and Gold Nomia Bee and came across this Tree Hopper. In between subjects at one point I stopped pulling my undies up. I have pants on and they will cover my back side so to speak.
It was at that point I realized this is what my Faith in Jesus Christ is like.
Hear me out. Jokes aside. Though we can have a sense of humor
Jesus took the nails for all of us. Our Father in Heaven raised him from the dead 3 days later. We cant see it but there is an amazing book called the Bible. This was written over a period of 2 thousand years. So its not something that happened in recent times but it did happen and because I chose to believe and know it is true Jesus has my backside in all situations. I know that soon Jesus is returning with the book of life to Judge all of us.
My undies falling down and not being the way they should is unpleasant. But My pants still have me covered.
My life right now is not pleasant.
Jesus has that covered!
I have not seen 1 of my children now for over 2 years. I did nothing to deserve being treated this way. I have experienced so many nasty things the last 3 years especially. But I do my best each day.
I don't chose the Pagan way of Easter. I have no Easter eggs or buns to eat. I chose instead to remember what Jesus did for us. I do this alone. But not alone.
I am broken. More than that. I am not sure I am even proud to call myself a human being at this point.
I know that even though my life is tough there is always someone worse off.
Philippians 4:13
I can do this because Jesus has my back side and my front side and my top side and my underside covered!
Enjoy Easter with your loved ones. Hold them tight.

Gemma and I both have our birthdays within a few days of each other so we decided to go back to Lincoln for another weekend to celebrate it.
Breakfast, the morning after my birthday. However, since I don't drink alcohol, I didn't need a hangover cure, ha ha!

May long weekend is a great time to go exploring, alas you never know what weather you might face. This was a cold and windy one, that did not stop us, too much, from exploring. Pyramid Lake, Jasper National Park.
