Title: Flying in to Save the Day! (..challenge)!
Subject: NATURE
Extra Credit: Use a Tripod
>>My submission for 52Frames <<<
___________________
So for this submission I thought I'd take it upon myself (yes without a zoom lens).. to stake out the bird feeders out back IN THE COLD & wait it out.
You bird photographers are so patient and talented, I'll tell you that! I already had a huge respect for you guys, but now... *it quadrupled, seriously*.
>>>I sat our there for about an hour and only got 4 - not really great bird shots. And then Juan opened the door to ask me a question and the couple of birds who were debating going to the feeder FLEW AWAY.. (They were not sure -with me sitting there covered with a coat and hood/camera on a tripod.. )
I told Juan that he scared off the birds.. and I felt like almost giving up on THAT try for the challenge.. and then SOMEONE... SOMETHING... came BUZZING IN... SWOOPING IN TO SAVE THE DAY.. (err.. challenge!)
>>Mr. Bumblebee!!
So I did take off the tripod - it was too tall to lay in the grass and capture this. But I laid down and snapped a few shots. This was my favorite one..
*this is my final submission**

Hope you all enjoyed my failure, savior photo story lol.

White-throated Honeyeater
Scientific Name: Melithreptus albogularis
The Yellow-throated Honeyeater can be quite aggressive towards other honeyeaters, as well as other species such as pardalotes, Golden Whistlers and Grey Shrike-thrushes, chasing them away in both breeding and non-breeding seasons.
Identification: The Yellow-throated Honeyeater is a medium to large slim-bodied honeyeater with a relatively long tail and a distinctive bright yellow chin and throat. It is a bright olive green above, with a silver-grey head, neck and underbody, and the yellow throat is bordered by a narrow black band. There is a small yellow ear-patch and the underbody is washed yellow, with the wing feathers also outlined with yellow. The bill is black and the eye is red-brown. Females are smaller than males. Young birds are very similar to adults, but duller overall. This Tasmanian species is usually seen singly or in pairs, often foraging on the trunks or foliage of large trees. It has also been called the Green Cherry-picker, Green Dick or Green Linnet.
Habitat: The Yellow-throated Honeyeater is found in a range of habitats, including wet and dry forests, woodlands, sub-alpine forests, temperate rainforest, wet scrubs and coastal heathlands. It is also often found in parks, gardens and reserves in urban areas. It is also found in orchards.
Distribution: The Yellow-throated Honeyeater is endemic to Tasmania, being widespread, and is found on some offshore islands. It is also found on King Island and on islands of the Furneaux Group.
Seasonality: Sedentary with some local movements. Females move into male territories during breeding season, then disperse along with young when breeding finished.
Feeding and diet: The Yellow-throated Honeyeater feeds mainly on insects and nectar, and occasionally on fruit and seeds. It feeds at all levels of the canopy, foraging on foliage, bark and flowers for insects and nectar. It will visit orchards to feed on insects and fruit, especially pears.
Communication: Loud 'tonk' calls, also 'pick-em-up' or 'get-a-whip'; aggressive churring and bill-snapping when chasing other birds.
Breeding behaviours: Male Yellow-throated Honeyeaters hold territories year-round, aggressively defending them against others of their own species as well as other birds and particularly, other honeyeaters. The female builds the small, cup-shaped nest close to the ground in dense shrubs such as tea-tree, Lomandra and wattles or in grass tussocks or new growth from a burnt stump. The nest is made from closely woven grass, bark and spider-web, and is lined with mammal fur or hair. Like a mainland Lichenostomusspecies, the White-eared Honeyeater, this species is known for its habit of collecting hair from live animals such as horses and dogs and even humans. The female incubates the eggs and feeds the young. She will leave the nestlings to be fed by the male if she is starting a second nest and brood, however the males will drive off the fledglings when they are old enough to disperse (usually for about three weeks, but often till the end of the season) and he will eventually drive the female away as well, once all the young have fledged. This species is parasitised by both Pallid Cuckoos and Fan-tailed Cuckoos.
Breeding Season: August to December.
Economic impacts: The Yellow-throated Honeyeater prefers older stands of dry sclerophyll forests and may be adversely affected by fire. It was formerly considered to be a pest of orchards, but there are no recent claims that it damages crops. It is well-known for its habit of landing on people's heads to collect hair for its nests.

I absolutely hate TAKS, our standardized test. We took it today. Literally, its a 36 question easy-as-hell multiple choice test that we have all day to take, though they shove us in a "secure test room" for 4 hours after weeks of prep talks and practice tests. Once we complete the test in a whopping 45 minutes, we sit in the maddening silence for the remainder of the time. No books, no paper, nada zippo. All for what? The school to look glittery and smart, so proud of its students? Mhmm.
See, when its the schools reputation at stake, all costs are taken (with a glass of salt, i must say ;] ) to make the students suceed. But when its our own grades, our own GPAs at stake, the school couldnt care less about conditions. Lame, so so lame.
Rant over.... now.

Several comments have noted the strange position of the Woodpecker. He had just come out of the nesting hole and for some reason wanted to take another look at the nest. I caught him in mid-pivot.
Cascade Mountains – Jackson County – Oregon - USA
“Reminiscent of a troupe of wide-eyed clowns, Acorn Woodpeckers live in large groups in western oak woodlands. Their social lives are endlessly fascinating: they store thousands of acorns each year by jamming them into specially made holes in trees. A group member is always on alert to guard the hoard from thieves, while others race through the trees giving parrotlike waka-waka calls. Their breeding behavior is equally complicated, with multiple males and females combining efforts to raise young in a single nest….. Acorn Woodpeckers are medium-sized woodpeckers with straight, spike-like bills and stiff, wedge-shaped tails used for support as the birds cling to tree trunks….. These woodpeckers live in oak and mixed oak-conifer forests on slopes and mountains in the Southwest and West Coast. They’re tolerant of humans, and you can find them in towns where there are acorns and suitable places to store them.”

I took a picture of the road in the morning next to the resting position. I had just left the Mo I Rana.
it is not long shutter timing...
How can a library, a theatre and other cultural partners successfully coexist under one roof? Firstly by breaking down the walls...and secondly, by combining the architecture of public space with the design of programmability. The result is called Hub Kerkrade: not only a resource centre, but also a hotbed of knowledge, information, education and entertainment.
Kerkrade is a city in the southernmost province of the Netherlands, close to Germany. Hub Kerkrade, located in a former shopping centre, has a surface area of no less than 5,000 m2, which houses the theatre, the library, various cultural partners and the nearby Kerkrade Music School. This location is part of the revitalised city centre. The design of the Hub is a new co-creation of international creative guide and architect Aat Vos (design concept, strategy, creative direction) in collaboration with Mars Interior Designers (design, engineering).
Originally, the library occupied half of the building's surface and was separated from the theatre by a wall. The removal of the partitions created more space, light and a new idea for the foyer. This almost always empty space has been transformed into a multifunctional shared living space where people can work, study or meet. The focal point of this space is in the foyer: the theatre staircase is equipped with a beautiful banister and a reddish-pink carpet, covered on both sides with blue steel. The foyer bar was made of copper and is now set against a background of raw bricks, combined with an LED screen and a light box. The "break drinks cabinet" steals the show, both in terms of its size and the colour-changing lighting.

so hello guys !, i've been thinking this for a few days, i really want to buy a new camera + new lens (as for me I think I'm capable to jump out to a semi-pro or a pro camera such as 550d or 60d and CANON EF 50mm f/1.4 USM + CANON EF 50mm f/1.8 II for the lenses), and in other hand, i want a new laptop as well (a macbook pro, it's really good for my artistic project) although i'm not going to take arts/photography in collage, i really into arts/photography stuffs, I already have a canon 1000d + kit lens (almost 1 year) and a laptop (Acer -> about 2 years, complete with adobe photoshop, etc.), it's really hard to decide, what should i get, do you guys maybe have some opinion about my problem...
so Should I get a new camera + new lens or a new laptop instead ?
(please, please, please answer it !!!)
PS. sorry I will do my tags soon :) and gosshh.. my blog hasn't been update...
starting now, if you want me to add your back please send me a flickr mail, I'm far behind from the last contact notification.
The next series of photos were taken at the National War Memorial in Ottawa, Ontario. (Comments disabled until the last image.)
The National War Memorial, also known as "The Response," is a cenotaph symbolizing the sacrifice of all Canadian Armed Forces personnel who have served Canada in time of war in the cause of peace and freedom — past, present and future. The memorial is the site of the national Remembrance Day Ceremony on November 11.
The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) have posted sentries at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier since 2007. On Oct. 22, 2014, Corporal Nathan Cirillo was tragically killed while on sentry duty. Sentry duty at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider now holds an even deeper meaning for both the CAF and the Canadian public.
