The last of the June photos, and a new (to me) tea dress. I wasn't sure it would suit me when I bought it online, but I'm really really happy with how it looks!

Now something a little different and experimental.
I saw this in a magazing a while ago so gave it a try.
I had a sheet of black perspex which I placed a bottle of extra virgin olive oil.
I set up the camera on a tripod with cable release and attached my trusty nikkor 50mm f/1.8.
The bacground is some black velvet held up with a home made stand.
I framed the shot then turned off the lights to have complete darkness.
I got my little torch with a purple quality street wrapper over the bulb and some fishing line attached to the other end then dangled the torch over the bottle whilst moving it around in circular motions and moving it up and down, during this time I had pressed the cable release in my other hand to get the exposure.

Trisha, one of our good friends who we see regularly in Leeds and at other events, decided to do a couple of nights in Hull so Gemma came to stay as well, and we made a weekend of it.
It meant swapping Leeds First Friday for Hull in March but that was no problem - it's good to mix things up a bit, and I'm always happy to have friends visit my home town!
In Propaganda. It wasn't a late one, as it was Thursday night and it was pretty quiet but we had fun anyway!

Some slightly more risque pictures from a night in at home.
Two more photographs in first comment.
With Hundreds Of Native Australian Animals on display in natural bushland and rainforest settings, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary provides a rare opportunity to see and experience the amazing native wildlife. One can see Koalas in many places in this wildlife sanctuary, and they are often taking a nap. But this adorable one was quite awake and started to reach some eucalyptus branches to eat their leaves.
Koalas are one of my top favourite wild animals.

I was trying to capture the beautiful rose petals during sunset time when my sight was drawn towards a harmless, standstill fly sitting on the rose petal. Light was dim as its winter evening in this side of Globe. I used my high ISO setting (1600) to keep a good enough Shutter Speed (1/160). I could take 2-3 shots, hand-held, before it flew
Some technical details of Fly as an Insect
Flies are insects of the order Diptera (from the Greek di = two, and ptera = wings). Their most obvious distinction from other orders of insects is that a typical fly possesses a pair of flight wings on the mesothorax and a pair of halteres, derived from the hind wings, on the metathorax. (Some species of flies are exceptional in that they are secondarily flightless). The only other order of insects bearing two true, functional wings plus any form of halteres are the Strepsiptera, and in contrast to the flies, the Strepsiptera bear their halteres on the mesothorax and their flight wings on the metathorax.
The Diptera comprise a large order, containing an estimated 240,000 species of mosquitoes, gnats, midges and others, although under half of these (about 120,000 species) have been described. It is one of the major insect orders both in terms of ecological and human (medical and economic) importance. The Diptera, in particular the mosquitoes (Culicidae), are of great importance as disease transmitters, acting as vectors for malaria, dengue, West Nile virus, yellow fever, encephalitis and other infectious diseases.
Diptera derive from Mecoptera or a strictly related group. The first true dipterans known are from the Middle Triassic (around 240 million years ago), and they became widespread during the Middle and Late Triassic

Another new eBay dress to try during lockdown.
I haven't looked at these pictures since I took them 3 months ago and looking back on them, I just don't like this dress that much. Nothing wrong with it per se, I just don't think the colour suits me that well, that's all.
I haven't put the dress on since. But you have to experiment with these things - I learn more from what doesn't quite work than what does.
Comments on my previous shot of Gavin noted that it was a rather unusual style for me, so here is something a little more characteristic, and this time with the colour.

Saturday was a bit of a departure from our usual Saturdays of late, when I have tended to stay around the Cosmo for the evening.
Four of us went up towards the student area of town to a pub called The Fenton to see an improv comedy night, which was absolutely awesome! Such a great evening! It's a monthly even held on the first Saturday of each month, so it lines up with our weekend very well, and I think I'll be a regular there.
After that we headed off to Pryzm nightclub with its light-up dance floor. It's nearly 2 years since I last went there so it was long overdue! And it was a top night in there too - I danced more than I have done in years!
Hotel room selfies before going out.

Day of Kurdistan Flag!
Today we celebrate a historically very meaningful day. 73 years ago, on 17. December 1945, at the çwar cira square (four-lamp place) in mahabad, the head office of the republic of Kurdistan, was raised the Kurdish flag and thus symbolically declared independence.
In 2004, the parliament of the autonomous region of Kurdistan decided to hold this historic day forever and officially declared the day of the Kurdistan Flag on 17. December each year.
In 1927-1930, the Kurdistan Flag was already raised by the leader of the azerbaijan uprising good nuri paşa.
Countless songs and poems have already addressed the Kurdistan Flag, and the flag is a popular motive for works of Kurdish artists.
The Kurdish writer and intellectual Moses writes about the flag in his 1991 Memoir:
" at the great bazaar in Istanbul, I bought wide stoffbänder of one metre length in four different colors. This flag is also known today: White, Red, green and in the midst of white a yellow sun."..

My good friend Sarah had the chance to come to Hull for a night and had not been before.
I took her for a little drive around - I took her to see the Humber Bridge (at night) and we had a little wander around the town centre, then went for a couple of drinks at The Star.
It's usually Leeds where I see Sarah so it was a really nice chance to show her around my home town. We did a couple of hours tour round the old town the next day too.

April was a very packed month socially! The weekend after Newcastle, Gemma was back in Hull again.
Saturday night we packed a lot in, and tried some new places.
We went to Ambiente tapas restaurant for Spanish food and it was absolutely gorgeous! Definitely doing that again, it was a really nice place and the food was great!
After that we went to Humber Street Social which was a venue we had not tried before. And then we went on to a charity night at The Oak Vaults and had a great time in there - even won two raffle prizes each! :-D
