Another night in at home.
Reading the comments on the previous version... I cropped the top sky and the bottom of the water.
Before I started I was not really convinced...but I must admit...it like the result. I also attempted to crop away the left tree in the foreground in another image, but it did not provide a result that I like, and it does not really bother me

Our annual May Lincoln weekend and we had some company this time round.
We organised a meal at Ole Ole Tapas with a few friends - Alice, Isobel, Trisha and Cindy. We all walked up Steep Hill to get there but it was well worth the effort - the tapas at Ole Ole is amazing.
Aslo gave a first outing to my modified handbag. Many thanks to Gemma for helping with the wiring and advice for this - it looks amazing! I'm so pleased with it!

Friendship - you're all that matters to me (Shine).
Without my friends, I am nothing. Without them, all of this is for nothing. I treasure my friendships. And Gemma - well, she is my soulmate.
Gemma made this beautiful video of our weekend and put it to one of my favourite songs - Shine by Take That. I am in floods of happy tears every single time I watch this.
I have been 'doing photography' for a long time, much of my adult life. It's interesting when I get comments about the diversity of my work. Some bird photographers are surprised I do landscape or 'street' photography, while many others are surprised I do portraiture. Well, mostly, I 'do photography'!
I've always loved to do especially studio head and shoulders portraiture, capturing, or revealing, the inner beauty of a person.
I'm grateful now my granddaughter(s) take part in this.

Je fais de la photographie depuis longtemps, une grande partie de ma vie d'adulte. C'est intéressant quand je reçois des commentaires sur la diversité de mon travail. Certains photographes d'oiseaux sont surpris que je fasse du paysage ou de la photographie de rue, alors que beaucoup d'autres sont surpris de faire du portrait. Eh bien, la plupart du temps, je fais de la photographie!
J'ai toujours aimé faire particulièrement le portrait en studio de la tête et des épaules, capturer ou révéler la beauté intérieure d'une personne.
Je suis reconnaissant maintenant que ma petite-fille (s) participe à cela.

He estado 'haciendo fotografía' durante mucho tiempo, gran parte de mi vida adulta. Es interesante cuando recibo comentarios sobre la diversidad de mi trabajo. Algunos fotógrafos de aves se sorprenden de que haga fotografías de paisajes o "calles", mientras que a muchos otros les sorprende que retraté. ¡Bueno, sobre todo, 'hago fotografía'!

In 2010, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) reestablished the historic Sydney Front Range Light. After replacing the Rear Tower with a metal structure in 2009, it was found the front tower was in bad shape with rotten wood. To maintain the heritage characteristic, DFO built a replica of the 1905 structure. The old iron lantern has been refurbished and installed on the new lighthouse, it continues as an active aid to navigation. The replica tower was built using modern long lasting materials.
Even though this light house was just rebuilt it is on the "Table of Active Lighthouses Declared Surplus" by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada - now that is what I call great planning by the government., build and the next day get rid of it!

Bayon Khmer temple , Angor Wat, Cambodia
One of my dream trips to this beautiful country Cambodia.
Ta Prohm is the modern name of the temple at Angkor, Siem Reap Province, Cambodia, built in the Bayon style largely in the late 12th and early 13th centuries and originally called Rajavihara (in Khmer: រាជវិហារ). Located approximately one kilometre east of Angkor Thom and on the southern edge of the East Baray, it was founded by the Khmer King Jayavarman VII as a Mahayana Buddhist monastery and university. Unlike most Angkorian temples, Ta Prohm has been left in much the same condition in which it was found: the photogenic and atmospheric combination of trees growing out of the ruins and the jungle surroundings have made it one of Angkor's most popular temples with visitors. UNESCO inscribed Ta Prohm on the World Heritage List in 1992. Today, it is one of the most visited complexes in Cambodia’s Angkor region. The conservation and restoration of Ta Prohm is a partnership project of the Archaeological Survey of India and the APSARA (Authority for the Protection and Management of Angkor and the Region of Siem Reap).
The Bayon was the last state temple to be built at Angkor, and the only Angkorian state temple to be built primarily as a Mahayana Buddhist shrine dedicated to the Buddha, though a great number of minor and local deities were also encompassed as representatives of the various districts and cities of the realm. It was the centrepiece of Jayavarman VII's massive program of monumental construction and public works, which was also responsible for the walls and nāga-bridges of Angkor Thom and the temples of Preah Khan, Ta Prohm and Banteay Kdei
The similarity of the 216 gigantic faces on the temple's towers to other statues of the king has led many scholars to the conclusion that the faces are representations of Jayavarman VII himself. Others have said that the faces belong to the bodhisattva of compassion called Avalokitesvara or Lokesvara. The two hypotheses need not be regarded as mutually exclusive. Angkor scholar George Coedès has theorized that Jayavarman stood squarely in the tradition of the Khmer monarchs in thinking of himself as a "devaraja" (god-king), the salient difference being that while his predecessors were Hindus and regarded themselves as consubstantial with Shiva and his symbol the lingam, Jayavarman as a Buddhist identified himself with the Buddha and the bodhisattva

What a lovely start to this day - a beautiful bunch of flowers arrived for me from my wonderful friend Bella. And the evening spent in purple.
Cindy's comment t about being a country girl on my last post I find rather funny because I am as far from a country bod that you could imagine, Being born in London on the door step of a big tourist attraction Camden Market and living in a council flat, thoughts of the country were but pipe dreams, although we did have Hampstead heath, Parliament hill fields, regents park and primrose hill on our doorstep place we used so much especially in the summer. I suppose that's where I I got the country girl image from and when I moved out it all just fitted nicely.
Yeah it's a hard life at times in as much as the weather does really interfere with normal life when it goes wrong, unlike London where we just carried on. Do I miss the smoke? I do or at least I miss the lifestyle the fast way of life always something to do something going on. but would I change it for my life now?
Nah I don't think so.

Description: 27th July 2013. The blue hour on that particular morning was showing a hint of clear sunrise. After finishing work, immediately made my way to this lovely mosque in Puchong for a "sunrise" session. Alhamdulillah that although it is not everyday, that day I am still able to enjoy the beautiful creation of God.

Aspects of the National Museum of Australia.
ARM and Robert Peck von Hartel Trethowan architects jointly won an international competition in 1997 to design it. The Museum wraps around 11 hectares on the Acton Peninsula on Lake Burley Griffin, opposite Romaldo Giurgola's Parliament House.
There are two big architectural ideas that guide the building's shape: the Boolean string, which embodies our views on Australian history as tangled and incomplete, and the jigsaw puzzle, which signifies that the Museum is conceptually unfinished. It is a work in progress towards the articulation of the Australian experience that evolves over time.
Each of the jigsaw-puzzle pieces has a different stylised appearance and construction type. Together, the pieces form an incomplete circle around the central Garden of Australian Dreams.
External and internal walls have giant Braille signs like goosebumps. The signs spell out phrases, some colloquial, some suggestive: "Sorry, mate", "She'll be right", "Time will tell", "Who is my neighbour?" and "God knows".

Well of Shiuan - book 2 of the Morgaine cycle - C.J. Cherryh [fantasy novel - November 12, 2015 - 0656]
The Morgaine book series by C.J. Cherryh consist of four novels. The second book "Well of Ivrel"(1976) is commented upon in this report.
The following is my synopsis of the back-story for these four novels:
The ancient Qhal Empire expanded and dominated civilizations throughout the Galaxy. The Qhal are human in appearance and can breed, if desired, with other humanoid beings. The teleportation Gates technology the Qhal reversed engineered and utilized for interstellar travel were discovered in ruins on a dead world. The Qhal did not invent the Gates. Using the Gates the ruthless Qhal who despised other "native" beings imposed their wills without remorse. In the end the downfall of the Qhal was in the nature of the Gates. The Gates in addition to providing instantaneous travel between star systems could also be used to travel forward in time. It is speculated from analysis of ancient Qhal artifacts on many worlds that travel back in time unraveled the Qhal civilization. Qujalin are human offspring that have bred with Qhal beings. Morgaine is a Qujalin who has undertaken a quest to go from world to world destroying the master Gates since there influence corrupts societies, nature and individuals. It should be noted that all worlds contain many Gates but only one Master Gate. Shutting down the Master renders them all just dead stone monuments.
I have not been able to definitely determine the motivation that propels Morgaine to go from world to world closing the Gates. Certainly the Gates are inherently evil but I was she given a mandate by some council or organization or is she self - motivated, the latter appears to be the case as best I can determine. Her journeys are difficult and dangerous yet her persistence and dedication never waivers. There is enormous opposition to her task since those in power lose all when the Gates is sealed. Fortunately she is in possession of an incredibly magical sword - Changling by name - that is partnered with the mystical evil of the Gates and provides her a weapon that can irrevocably draws individuals to oblivion. How she aquired this incredibly powerful weapon is unknown. Use of the sword takes a psychic toll on her. All the books take place in medieval type world. The technologies evident are body armor and cross bows; horses are the only means of transportation. These pre industrial revolution locals makes for interesting stories but I question if the Qhal who were interstellar travelers what happened to their technology?
Vanye the bastard son of Nhi Rijan killed his half-brother Nhi Kandrys and cut off several fingers of his other half-brother Nhi Erij in a fight he was goaded into by the half-brothers. His father was incensed with grief and anger and cursed his son and pronounced him an "ilin" an outcast. Vanye was "claimed" by the Qujalin Morgaine to assist her in defeating a clan leader who aspires for the forbidden knowledge of the Gates. At the story unfolds her becomes her assistant is riding worlds of Master Gates.
Well of Shiuan - book 2 of the Morgaine cycle:
The setting for this book is alien planet that had in the distant past been an outpost of the Qhal. The planet has earth-like conditions and is populated with men and descendants of the Qhal who have breed with the humans. The planet's moon had experienced a cataclysmic event that results in a steadily rising sea level and a forbidding sense of dread among the inhabitants. The society is pre-industrial and feudal ruled by clans who maintain uneasy alliances and truces with adjoining clans. Warriors are respected for their skills with bows and swords and their horsemanship. Anything to do with the Qhal - the Gates or beings with Qhal blood - Qujalin - is an object of justified superstitious dread. Nonetheless some individual's lust for the powers Qhal items can provide. Morgaine and her sworn assistant Vanyn appear intent on closing the Master Gate. Degenerate Qhal, a being masquerading as Vanye's cousin and angry locals conspire to thwart their plan.
This book screams for a glossary of terms - alas there isn't one. The author with a masters of arts in mythology fills her books with cryptic terms for places and locations that, frankly, were unfamiliar to this reader. Alas I had to slow down take a few notes and use some page index tabs to refer back too and I was ok and good to go. It was worth the effort - this is a many-layered story with several very strong personalities competing for the reader attention. The climax of this story, a stand-alone book as published, begs for sequel. Fortunately for us there was one.
I have read several of Ms. Cherryh's books and to be honest they are an acquired taste and put demands on the reader not accustomed to her writing style and narrative pacing. In this book the narrative pacing proceeded glacially. Nonetheless I enjoyed this book and will eventually read the two remaining sequels.
