On my way out the door to help out at a fundraiser that night.

This evening, my friend Megan curated a silent art auction where proceeds benefited Aetherplough, a fledgling group committed to creating, producing, and performing new art pieces in the region.

All went smashingly well and I'm proud of my friends who worked so hard to put it all together.

Another day in Chicago... and more snow. Three inches

overnight... and way below freezing all day today.

Funny though... this mostly blue sky of maybe an hour or so

ago, has given way to complete overcast... the sky and the

ground being the exact same shade of pale white. And there

is the threat of even more snow! It's almost like having two

very different afternoons in one day.

Shot from a second floor window into the then-yellow and

fading light.

And did I mention... c-c-c-old?!

Here I am explaining to a friend what a wide angle is.

she snapped me, so this day's photo credits are not mine. A happy accident, let's say it like that :)

Uploaded with AirMe First doesn't it look COLD outside! With a high of 34 it was very cold all day. For some reason gas prices jumped up 6 cents in Denton overnight.

'Twas in another lifetime, one of toil and blood

When blackness was a virtue and the road was full of mud

I came in from the wilderness, a creature void of form.

"Come in," she said,

"I'll give you shelter from the storm."

And if I pass this way again, you can rest assured

I'll always do my best for her, on that I give my word

In a world of steel-eyed death, and men who are fighting to be warm.

"Come in," she said,

"I'll give you shelter from the storm."

Not a word was spoke between us, there was little risk involved

Nothing up to that point had even been resolved.

Try imagining a place where it's always safe and warm.

"Come in," she said,

"I'll give you shelter from the storm."

I was burned out from exhaustion, buried in the hail,

Poisoned in the bushes an' blown out on the trail,

Hunted like a crocodile, ravaged in the corn.

"Come in," she said,

"I'll give you shelter from the storm."

Suddenly I turned around and she was standin' there

With silver bracelets on her wrists and flowers in her hair.

She walked up to me so gracefully and took my crown of thorns.

"Come in," she said,

"I'll give you shelter from the storm."

Now the bonds are broken, but they can be retied,

by one more journey to the woods, the holes where spirits hide.

It's a never ending battle for a peace that's always torn

"Come in," she said,

"I'll give you shelter from the storm."

Well, the deputy walks on hard nails and the preacher rides a mount

But nothing really matters much, it's doom alone that counts

And the one-eyed undertaker, he blows a futile horn.

"Come in," she said,

"I'll give you shelter from the storm."

I've heard newborn babies cryin' like a moanin' dove

And old men with broken teeth stranded without love.

Do I understand your question, man, is it hopeless and forlorn?

"Come in," she said,

"I'll give you shelter from the storm."

And now there’s a wall between us, something else been lost

I took too much for granted, I got my signals crossed.

And just to think it all began on an uneventful morn,

"Come in," she said,

"I'll give you shelter from the storm."

In a little hilltop village, they gambled for my clothes

I bargained for salvation an' she give me a lethal dose.

I offered up my innocence and got repaid with scorn.

"Come in," she said,

"I'll give you shelter from the storm."

Well, I'm livin' in a foreign country but I'm bound to cross the line

Beauty walks on a razor's edge, someday I'll make it mine.

If I could only turn back the clock to when God and her were born,

"Come in," she said,

"I'll give you shelter from the storm."

Indigenous people of the Great Lakes regions smoke the leaves as tobacco. Its a sacred plant in other ways also.

After busting out my Fall/Winter jacket. Baby, it's cold outside.

I was sitting in the McDonald's restaurant, inside the Kailua-Kona Walmart, when I noticed this inflatable decoration on the counter. I found it funny for two reasons. First, this is right after the San Francisco radio station banned this song for being offensive. Second, this is HAWAII and the thought of it being COLD outside would NEVER come up.

On a "no-school" day.

AAW: Your Community at Night

For this assignment you are tasked with photographing some portion of your village/town/city at night. This will most likely entail some long exposures and thus some means of holding the camera still for a few seconds. Although not excluded, let's see some creativity beyond the usual (but pleasing) long exposure light streaks of head and tail lights.

WIT: I live in a boring place when it comes to the dark part of the day. We went to relatives (including some who came from Germany to spend the holidays in Canada). I excused myself to explore the neighbourhood. It was, ummm.... quiet.

I had wanted to get some star-burst photos and decided that this was a good opportunity. I had some difficulty with deciding on the crop. Should I have gone square to make the star-burst affect more noticeable?

In post, some levels, a crop and straighten and colour correction in ACR.

I had lunch with a friend and fellow designer today at a fairly

new restaurant in the neighborhood... Jamesons Char House.

Massive wood and stone construction, in prairie style

architechture. Nice big roaring fire in the huge open lobby...

just the thing on a day with snowflakes in the air... like today!

Nice time.

This is a fenced section just off of the main entrance... where

you can while away a leisurely warm evening... outdoors on

the patio under the stars, and in the glow of the lanterns.

Ah... but that is another season! Right now... the glow I sought

was found in the fireplace... indoors. =)

Open mouth. Insert food!

This stingray didn't want to miss any of the action during the Columbus Zoo's Scuba Santa feeding time. The Santa Claus, who happened to be a lady, is actually feeding the stingray in this shot as the other fish swim around her and wait for their turn. The "Diving Claus" is part of the Columbus Zoo's annual "Wildlights" Christmas display.

This was where our Ohio Foothills group headed to get warmed up after walking around the zoo for several hours, photographing animals and light displays. I also uploaded a video that I tried to put in the comments, but it isn't showing up, so you'll have to go back a couple of spots to watch it.
