PCA: Black on Black/White on White

Photograph a black object against a black background or a white object against a white background. The key to this assignment will be on how to maneuver all your camera settings! It puts into practice how to adjust the AV, EV, shutter speed, ISO, lighting etc. to create a photograph with focused edges of the object so that it does not get lost in the background. Hint: lighting is key…

WT: We had a cold snap in the last couple of weeks. One very chilly morning, (I think it was around -20 C), I took my "good" camera to the barn. We had a fog that night and then the sun came out. What a glorious day! It was also a miracle as my battery had been flashing before I left the house and then I was out in the battery killing cold too!

This shot was a bit of an afterthought as I wondered to the car. It was the second last shot I took. I was aiming for this assignment and isolating the same colour of white as the background was tough while minimizing shadows behind it. I wanted it to stand out on it's own through focus primarily. In post, I did a minor crop off the bottom, ACR to colour and sharpness. In PSE, I played with the levels to make it brighter. I find I tend to shoot bright subjects darker to ensure I get the edges I want.

All those things I've asked of you. But yet you could not give me even one answer.

I'm just as sick of all the puddles as he is.

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. For as the rain cometh down , and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud , that it may give seed to the sower , and bread to the eater : So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please , and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree: and it shall be to the LORD for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off . Isaiah 55

Hold fast to dreams

For if dreams die

Life is a broken-winged bird

That cannot fly.

Hold fast to dreams

For when dreams go

Life is a barren field

Frozen with snow.

It may look like back home outside, but it doesn't feel like it. I fwoze my feet too many times last night and today. I think I can just wee wee here in the nice warm house.

Mom's note: It was funny, but sad watching him trying to make his way through the snow. It was a whopping 2 below zero this morning. He would hold one foot up, then another and then he would just fall over. Poor guy. Good thing I can still carry him.

IHTSW: Warm/ Warmth

AAW: For this week's assignment you need to "Frame" your subject with something natural or staged...But..Not with Photoshop or one of those other funky programs.

Restriction: No imported frame.

I apologize for the dual posting to groups, but this one fit so perfectly. I was aiming for my "Warm/Warmth" project by showing how cold it was outside, and how nice an toasty it was in the house with the fire going. As I reviewed my pictures, I realized that the fire was framed nicely.

WIT: Put on my heavy jacket and snow boots and shovelled the sidewalk , tripod. Outdoors was lit by streetlight. Changes to colour and some levels adjustments. No crop.
