Cog Railway goes up Mt. Washington, New Hampshire. Widelux photo. Labor Day 2001.

Put together from a shelf thing in the bathroom. The toy bicycle was an unexpected gift from colleagues back at Maricopa who gave it to me after a leadership retreat in the mid 1990s to somewhere in Colorado. Those were they days when PD fell from the trees.

And the dalmatian predates Dominoe- this was form a set of three that was always in my parent's living room.

One could say Cog and Dog where pre-ordained, I just did not know it.

Just got latest issue and the hard cover restrospective of cog in.

We have seven cogs in our immediate family.

Here are 4/7.

A big iron cog by the boatworks on the Bristol docks.

There were a lot of these cogs lying around in the abandoned mill.

5/2024 - My second visit to the Mt. Washington Cog Railway was unfortunately a few days before steam began running for the season. Upon my arrival, the cog diesels were making moves at Marshfield Station.

A trip to Mountain View on the Pikes Peak Cog Railway and some wild flowers once I got off. The cog train leaving me behind at Mountain View.

The cog railway track disappears off the side of Mount Washington.

A short clip of me performing "Turning Japanese" at the first annual OK! Happy Cog’aoke SXSW karaoke competition (middle portion of the video that was cut short, unfortunately).

I came in 5th. Not bad. It was crazy fun. The video, unfortunately, stops 2 minutes into my performance so I don't have a complete version of me doing this song.

The undercarriage of one of the large railcars at Pikes Peak Cog Railway in Manitou Springs, CO. This was taken from "the pit" and shows one side of the front of the truck. The car barn has only one rack, so you can see the unengaged cog on the left.

Normally there are two racks set 180 degrees out of phase. This reduces the wear on the cogs and the racks. But in the car barn, which is level, there is little force needed so only one rack is present.

The Manitou and Pike's Peak Railway runs from Manitou Springs (just West of Colorado Springs, CO) to the top of Pikes Peak, 14,115' (4302m although there is controversy about the actual height of the peak). It is the highest "rack" railway in the world. For details on the Railway, see www.cograilway.com.
