A lovely sight.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Seventy metres at 13:31pm on Thursday 25th May 2023 off Keating cross and Benvenuto Avenue at the Butterfly gardens in Victoria, located in Brentwood Bay, British Columbia.

This is a Ricepaper (Idea leuconoe) butterfly, also known as Paper Kites or Tree Nymphs and found in Malaysia, Taiwan and the Philippines. They are a common species found in lowland rainforests and coastal mangrove forests. These large, striking butterflies have translucent white wings patterned with black streaks and spots. Their patterns serve to warn predators that they are poisonous. Their flight is slow and graceful, and they may rest with wings open or closed.

Sorry for the essay this week. Feel free to ignore all this and just leave a comment on my photographic genius! ;) Please, don't read any of it, nothing to see here, move along...

Two weeks ago we asked for suggestions and received two great ideas for themes. Here's the first - nerdy, thank you David - which I can do. Last week I gave you a further insight into my character, and I'm going to continue the trend this week.

I.am.a.Nerd.

No really, I actually am. I like to pretend that I'm not, because nerds aren't cool. But I am. I have a first class honours degree in Computer Science and Electronics. That desk behind me is not a prop, that actually is my desk, all those things were actually on it. I do have four screens on it, a screwdriver and a disassembled camera under the monitor. That rat's nest of cables lives in a box that I use to keep all my 'might be useful later' nerdy stuff in.

Occasionally I slip up and let the nerd out in public, on the road trip we got into a discussion of the benefits of JPEG vs RAW and I brought up compression. Forgetting myself for a moment, I chipped in with "as long as you don't push it too far, the loss of high frequency information is negligible, that's the beauty of the Discrete Cosine Transformation algorithm." The silence was, in hindsight, rather amusing. I started to explain but when Jeff's eyes glazed over (to his credit, he lasted a good 10 seconds longer than Kim) I decided to stop. Anyway, I wrote a JPEG codec as part of my final year dissertation... this is not helping. Time to stop,

So, ha ha, what do you think of my hilarious 'made-up' scenario??

I hope no-one reads this.

Each week between Monday and Sunday I shoot a self-portrait. I post it the following Thursday. The idea is for me to learn and grow. So give me some critique, don't be shy - tell me what you really think! Thanks

PS (Phew, this'll divert you all from the Nerd theme) I've not been feeling great these past few weeks (as I mentioned) but the last 10 days have been pretty dreadful with a series of big migraines. The other day I saw that Clayton mentioned (on Facebook) he'd found a tick crawling on Lexie and one of the comments was from someone who said they'd had Lyme disease because of a tick. It hasn't come out, until now, but I got bitten by a tick on the road-trip and had put it out of my mind (I'm guessing you can tell where this is going already.) Anyway, Jeff had mentioned this Lyme disease as a risk but I'd not thought about it until this little reminder. Intrigued, just because I am an inquisitive fellow, I went to the wikipedia page only to realise that the picture of the infected bite looks rather like my bite (albeit mine is not quite so impressive) and that the list of symptoms really kind of matched what I've been going through lately. All things combined, this was enough to go to the doctor.

I laid it all out in front of the doctor concluding with, "silly me, shouldn't look at medical things on the Internet, eh?" Only for her to say, actually, no it does make sense, she looked up some stuff (I'm guessing she doesn't get too many in like this) and yes, you guessed it, she thinks I have got it. Just as I was about to leave she said, "oh, one of the indicators is a swollen liver, let's just take a look." So I hopped onto the couch, she located the right spot, told me to breath in and poked "OWWWW", she told me to breath in again, poked and "OWWWW." "That hurts then?" she said with a smile, "it's pretty swollen." I can kind of rationalise the other symptoms but that one is a little more tricky to explain away. They've taken 3 tubes of blood for various tests (although apparently even if it comes back negative, I still might have it - rubbish test if you ask me) and I've got 2 weeks of antibiotics (although they look more like horse tranquillisers) and a week off work.

It's easy to post-rationalise some of this stuff, and I don't want to dismiss the issues I've been wrestling with, but it does explain why I've been feeling quite so sluggish at least. As a young man (and a computer scientist) I was deeply logical in so many things, I must admit I still have a tendency to see intellect as a computer program, unaffected by the wetware upon which it runs (my friend, a nurse, called it the "pull yourself together mentality.") As the years have passed, and I suppose I've grown up, I am continually amazed at the interrelationship between the mind and the body.

I'm actually feeling quite upbeat about life today (emotionally at least, if physically exhausted), this is just another exciting tale from my holiday to America, so let's focus on the picture, please?

Photograph taken at an altitude of Seventy metres at 13:43pm on Thursday 25th May off Keating Cros Road and Benvenuto Avenue at Victoria Butterfly Gardens in Brentwood Bay on Vancouver Island in Brirish Columbia, Canada.

This is a Blue Morpho (Morpho Peleides) butterfly, one of the largest butterflies in the world with a wingspan up to eight inches. Light reflects from the microscopic scales on their wingbacks, giving a vivid iridescent appearance, and they are mainly seen active and in flight, resting only briefly. They are found in the tropical rainforests of Latin America from Mexico to Columbia.

This is a compilation of a few clips that I shot on way to and from work the last few days to test the low light performance of the Panasonic GH2. I must say that I'm very impressed so far with the little gem. I'm a heavy user of the Lensbaby TT since it gives me the amazing ability to shoot and tilt just about any F-mount lens in the camerabag, being a Nikon user. My latest gear aquisition was the Carl Zeiss Planar T* 1,4/50 ZF for Nikon, it's an awesome lens for the GH2 when it comes to video work, but also for stills because it's actually quite easy to focus manually with the EVF.

There is noise/grain in some of the footage but remember it was shot in darkness, pretty much wide open and at the higher ISO range, noise is most visible in the 1:1 crop mode scenes (EX-tele). Most the clips are ungraded except for the "vintage scratched film" look added to one of the clips. In the first scenes I used a slow shutter speed (1/5 and 1/13) and did a speed up in post for a quick and rather jerky timelapse. Be aware that the original 1080p file available for download is XDCAM EX codec, so you'll need QuickTime and FCP on Mac OS X for the playback or re-wrap the files to MXF and then use Sony XDCAM viewer for Windows.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Seventy nine metres at 13:41pm on Thursday 25th May off Keating Cross Road and Benvenuto Avenue at Victoria Butterfly Gardens in Brentwood Bay on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada.

Photograph taken at 12:09pm on Monday 3rd March 2025 at an altitude of Thirty two metres in the Grounds of Warnham Nature Reserve in Horsham, West Sussex. The Millpond dates back to the 16th Century and parts of the woodland dates back even further to the 13th Century. A beautiful location for a walk, or to sit amongst nature and so see birds and butterflies in their natural habitat.

The Great crested grebe Podiceps cristatus is a member of the grebe family of water birds. The bird is characterised by its distinctive appearance, featuring striking black, orange-brown, and white plumage, and elaborate courtship display that involves synchronised dances and displays, as seen here with this pair.

iPod is a brand of portable media players designed and marketed by Apple Inc. and launched on October 23, 2001. As of 2008, the current product line-up includes the hard drive-based iPod classic, the touchscreen iPod touch, the video-capable iPod nano and the screenless iPod shuffle. Former products include the compact iPod mini and the spin-off iPod photo (since re-integrated into the main iPod classic line). iPod classic models store media on an internal hard drive, while all other models use flash memory to enable their smaller size (the discontinued mini used a Microdrive miniature hard drive). As with many other digital music players, iPods, excluding the iPod touch, can also serve as external data storage devices. Storage capacity varies by model.

Apple's iTunes software is used to transfer music to the devices. As a jukebox application, iTunes stores a music library on the user's computer and can play, burn and rip music from a CD. It can also transfer photos, videos, games, and calendars to iPod models supporting those features. Apple focused its development on the iPod's unique user interface and its ease of use, rather than on technical capability. As of September 2007, the iPod had sold over 110 million units worldwide making it the best-selling digital audio player series in history.[1]

Microcontroller

* iPod first to third generations — Two ARM 7TDMI-derived CPUs running at 90 MHz.

* iPod fourth and fifth generations, iPod mini, iPod nano first generation — Variable-speed ARM 7TDMI CPUs, running at a peak of 80 MHz to save battery life.

* iPod nano second generation — Samsung System-On-Chip, based around an ARM processor.[16]

* iPod shuffle first generation — SigmaTel STMP3550 chip that handles both the music decoding and the audio circuitry.[17]

Audio chip

* All iPods (except the shuffle and 6G) use audio codecs developed by Wolfson Microelectronics.

* Sixth generation iPods use a Cirrus Logic audio codec chip.

Storage medium

* iPod first to sixth generation — 45.7 mm (1.8 in) hard drives (ATA-6, 4200 rpm with proprietary connectors) made by Toshiba

* iPod mini — 25.4 mm (1 in) Microdrive by Hitachi and Seagate

* iPod nano — Flash memory from Samsung, Toshiba, and others.

Photograph taken at 13:11pm on Monday 3rd March 2025 at an altitude of Sixty metres in the Grounds of Warnham Nature Reserve in Horsham, West Sussex. The Millpond dates back to the 16th Century and parts of the woodland dates back even further to the 13th Century. A beautiful location for a walk, or to sit amongst nature and so see birds and butterflies in their natural habitat.

The Pheasant (Phasianus colchicus), is a strikingly colourful and beautiful game bird, especially the males as seen here. They can measure up to 89cms in length with a wingspan up to 90cms, and are seen in the UK year round, with around 2.3 million known breeding birds.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Two metres at 21:25pm on Thursday 25th May 2023 around sunset at Patricia Bay , a body of salt water that extends East from the Saanich Inlet and forms part of the North Saanich shoreline in the District of North Saanich in British Columbia. It features a beautiful park which is at the south end of the Scoter Trail. Formerly known as Union Bay, the bay was named after Princess Patricia of Connaught, daughter of the Duke of Connaught who was Governor General in 1912.

The park has ties to transportation and the waterfront, and their pivotal role in the development of North Saanich. It is also tied to the development of the Victoria International Airport and military aviation efforts during the Second World War. In 1937, the airport was developed as one of six Royal Canadian Air Force Station training facilities on Vancouver Island.

The land was originally settled by the Tseycum First Nation (Union Bay Indian Reserve No.4) , one of four Saanich villages of Southern Vancouver Island in the area and part of the Northern Straits Coast Salish language group.

In the Sencoten langauge Tseycum is spelled Wsikem and means Land of Clay. The languages spoken include Lkwungen, Malchosen, Semiahmoo, SENĆOŦEN andT’Sou-ke and in 2023 the Chief is Tanya Jimmy, who was elected in July 2019. The Tseycum people have five reserves located at:

Bare Island 9, Goldstream 13, Pender Island 8, Saturna Island 7 and Union Bay 4.

Here we see a Killdeer (Charadrius vociferus), a large plover found in the Americas. Its shrill, two-syllable call is often heard, sounding like "kill deer". It was described and given its current scientific name in 1758 by Carl Linnaeus.

The Lagoon is one of seven Migratory Bird Sanctuaries in British Columbia, and an important stopover for birds journeying between North and South America. Visitors include geese and Swans, Bald Eagles and Great Blue Herons, plus many other species of birds.

We’ve wanted to attend a powwow for ages, but the timing and opportunity never really presented itself until this past autumn, when we finally had the honour and privilege of attending our first one.

It was a sunny, warm, perfect blue sky day when we arrived at the powwow and I immediately realized what a treat we were in for – and what a tremendous opportunity it was to capture something truly extraordinary. We took turns taking photos and I shot a few iPhone video clips I’d planned to email to a friend (how I wish now that we'd taken our video camera). In the end, the experience had such an impact on me that I decided to create a video in an attempt to convey some of the beauty, the awe, and the poignancy we experienced being at the powwow.

If you'd like to see the video, click here: Treaty 7 Powwow: Sharing Our Culture

I’m proud to say that, although I needed some help from my partner, I largely completed this video on my own. It’s my most complex video project to date. This video also represents an artistic departure from my usual hypnotic affinity to saturated colour. Billed as "the most colourful parade on the planet" this powwow completely lived up to its billing: the colours of the traditional regalia were spectacularly vibrant. Yet, I had an unusually strong inclination to include black and white conversions in the video. It felt odd to me to feel such a clear preference for using some monochrome photography for such a colourful event. But, for me, it conveys something indescribable, something that goes beyond the immediate dazzle of colour.

Many thanks to my partner for equalizing all of my soundtracks and figuring out the codecs, video render settings and other such things, of which I know nothing.

Video edited using Vegas Pro 10

Here we see ice formed on the top of a stone bird bath that refroze within half an hour of me clearing and warming it back into life.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Zero metres at 19:43pm on Thursday 25th May 2023 around sunset at Patricia Bay , a body of salt water that extends East from the Saanich Inlet and forms part of the North Saanich shoreline in the District of North Saanich in British Columbia.

The Red Kite (Milvus Milvus) is a medium sized bird of prey (Raptor) in the Accipitridae family, and was saved from national extinction by a long running protection programme. It has now been successfully re-introduced into England and Scotland, and Wales, and they are listed under schedule 1 of the Wildlife and Countryside act, currently with a green status.

They can reach 66cms in length with up to a 195cms wingspan, and there around 4,600 breeding pairs in the UK in 2024.

For the past 2 days I have been testing my new Nikon P1000 camera out in my yard and neighborhood. I am very impressed. You have to haul a 3.5 lb camera and a hefty tripod. I used my Manfrotto 3130 tripod with a fluid head that weighs 8 lbs for telephoto shots. The fluid head facilitates video pans, but even it drifted down while shooting at far out lengths such as 3000 mm indicating a need for counter weights such as sand bags or a heavier duty tripod. You also have to use a remote control for shutter depressions and controlling the camera. I purchased a Nikon ML-L7 remote which did the job very well.

The Coolpix P1000 does not use .nef for raw files. It uses .nrw format. I could not use Adobe PS CS6 to read these files. I started saving files in both raw and jpg formats instead of raw exclusively as I do on my Nikon DLSR camera. I had to download Nikon Capture NX-D which came with Nikon Picture Control and Nikon Transfer 2 which I have not tested yet. I Downloaded and installed a Nikon NRW codec. I could not see NRW files in Photoshop CS6, Adobe Bridge CS6 or View NX V2. But I could see them in Capture NX-D, Windows photos, Win Explorer, Win movie Maker, Photo Gallery and Win Photo Viewer.

It pays to purchase a 77 mm clear filter cover because the possibility of scratching the huge lens looms very high.

The Jpg image size is stored in a 12:9 ratio. My other Nikon cameras are sized in a12:8 ratio. Also many functions are accessed by menu rather than buttons common on Nikon DLSR’s.

I have not tested the bird or moon modes on the P1000 yet, but they look promising on paper.

All in all I am very pleased with the Nikon P1000 and look forward to having a lot of fun with it, especially for birding.

Eastern Raccoons (Procyon lotor) are native to the southern BC mainland, one of many different sub species of Raccoon, but are an introduced invasive species on Haida Gwaii. They were introduced in the 1940s to enhance the local fur trade, but they represent a significant threat to ground-nesting marine birds. My family refer to them as 'Trash Panda's', but I love them. They are also known as Racoons, Coons or Common Racoons

Firstly if you ever thought that a laptop was insufficient for this job, then think again, and take a look at this laptop offered by Lenovo.... The W541... shop.lenovo.com/gb/en/laptops/thinkpad/w-series/w541/?cid... This W541 laptop from Lenovo is very highly specified i'm sure you'll agree, a real stunner from China. To make it even better an optional sockets attachable port is available catering for usb2 and usb3 together with PCI express 2/4k video compatibility, aswell as thunderbolt connectivity on the unit itself. More recently Lenovo have added the P50 and P70 to the workstation range. Digital betacam raises 720/576 resolution in 10 bit component form, from associated bnc connections on the recorders, with their xlr sound connectivity .The medium was first introduced in 1993 as a mainstream television format.I purchased this cassette on ebay for £2 and the format is still used today by corporations such as the bbc for very high standard commissioning of standard definition content. The sony dvw500s are used for this format and are still popular. You can pick up good used examples on ebay, mine was 125 pounds,a massive saving as opposed to the new purchase price of 50k.I do all of my timeline editing on sony vegas pro 12 version 12 build 770,i can do a single render to dvd-r in main concept mpeg2,then via component rca out on the blue ray player to component bnc inputs on the digi beta deck,a dvw500 supports an sdi output though not an hd one,but optional boards can be inserted enabling a hd upscale re-sample.Although if you pass this onto a film out service it may well be them who possess these boards in their own player/recorders,digi beta will encode 25 interlaced frames per second to tape, and this is its fixed rate in the pal versions,in short 25i. As a format Digital Betacam was introduced into the media world in 1993, and is capable of loss free digital Mpeg2 Editing and duplicating. The definition is Standard Definition 720/576i , but in 1993 this was one hell of a DVD quality format to have on Tape. A very good discipline in tape care is to do what i do,and i do this for all the masters in my vaults, firstly place each tape in the player and spool to the end and let auto rewind bring it back, all the tape should now lay even on the flange, and any sticking messes attempting to form will be ruled out,as will a reduction in any bacteria. As for temperature in general, room temperature, but 70 degrees Fahrenheit ± 4 degrees is recommended,a tape will last many years in these conditions.lastly store end to end so the tape is not lying flat, this will stop possible little nasties from happening.Another format to consider might be hdcam as it is much cheaper to attain than hdcam sr which is at about the height of v;t in the media world.hdcam does a pretty good full hd job,ie-1080/1440 and play re-sample to full hd ,i saw a decent cine alta 2003 deck from ebay bulgaria the other day,and with the same body as my dvw-500p,in fact it was a Sony HDW-F500 for just 3,900 pounds, this supports all major pal/ntsc frame rates including,23.98/24p/25p/30/29.97 ,all supported www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sony-HDW-F500-HDCAM-High-Definition-Di... DVCAM in SD is a Firewire Contender also, with a firewire 400 port for I/O connectivity on its rear panel, my favourite deck in this range would be the Sony DSR-45P, and sports a Video Monitor on the front panel. And don't rule out hdv,a deck like a sony "HVR 1500" ,as this would do the job very nicely. This sports an sdi hd output,a HVR-M35 U could also be used,as could the sony hvr 25 au as this supports 25p and other progressive suitables, though will not output in hd/sdi.the format records in its known native mpeg2 1080/1440i 1.333 pixel aspect ratio for 16:9 displays, which is sonys version not jvcs, although they are both excellent, ready for direct printing to the positive film on something like a cinevator 5 film recorder,a firewire ieee 1394 lead can be used to connect your computer to a sony hdv recorder, these are in a few variations, including an express card 34 expansion slot, and an express card 54 expansion slot,or a computer with a 4 pin 400 connection, and so on, so be careful, the connection is not hot swappable so make connections while switched off, this in-particularly applies to the i link terminal on the rear panel of the hdv deck ,...with a well structured ultra hd timeline the pack into this format will be very impressive..making a very solid print to tape, more so than if it had been an hd line , the most impressive recorder with a firewire input and HDSDI out has to be the Sony HDW-1800 Hdcam recorder,it really steals the show, here is a link to the 1800 at CVP cvp.com/index.php?t=product/sony_hdw-d1800&gclid=CjwK... . Cinevator Direct-to-Print: A User Experience from Cinevation on Vimeo The HDSDI Cable is advertised in sales outlets as follows (SMPTE 424M 3G-SDI 2006[2] 2.970 Gbit/s, and 2.970/1.001 Gbit/s 1080p60). With one of these Cinevator 5s a spreading resolution of between 1828 x 1556 and 2048 x 1768 is obtainable, and includes full hd-1920/1080,ideal for hdcam and hdv, flat as well as anamorphic resolution prints can be recorded.so a very powerful 2k is within its limit, dependant on what you select, and of course what you come in from. For the cinevator 5 in terms of coming in from true 2k,the best option is to use the DUAL - LINK DVI INTERFACE, some blackmagic boxes facilitate this and it's a sure way to get your timeline to the print in the best way with the cinevator. It , among many others, has a resolution setting of 2048/1080,which is one of the 2k spreads, so if your computer settings tally up, your good to go . Or one of these for higher resolutions,http://www.ccg-digital.com/definity/product-line/definity-ds,the ds will go from 2k and right up to 7680x2048 anamorphic for the 2x squash in 2.35;1 full frame - 21;9 'scope screen situations, and that is 6k.both the cinevator 5 and the definity ds will record image and sound to the same film stock simultaneously which is alot more straightforward than older methods where sound is done separately ,the cinevator ,when printing direct to positive stock is fine for smaller batches or less multiple lengths of super 35 flex,or you would be there forever.Allow a few seconds per frame, the quality obtainable is quite remarkable because it is so direct. It is also worth remembering at this point that s35 can be blown up to 70mm, so this opens up another door too, a DTS disc will usually accompany your length of film. And if you are filming for this purpose it would pay to use 4k camcorders to a 4k timeline so you are coming in from a strong initial height, almost any 4k camcorder and its format will do ,at least for the cinevator and the ds to four k from other suitable deliverables ,like a 4k blackmagic box,or certain files, the 4k blackmagic box is a good link from your computer to the blackmagic box input and the recording vcrs input,...from the box output, and this would also work well for the cinevator, when it is feeding from the vcrs tape encoded material, while being remote controlled by an rs- 422 - sony bvw-75 protocol subset / db9 connector lead of male variety, this sort of positive film stock is ideal for this type of practice.Kodak seem to store relevant stock..

www.kodak.com/GB/en/motion/products/distribution_and_exhi... A more modern equivalent may be a 50mbps xdcam deck like a sony pdw-f70 ,also supporting the sdi hd output, though you would probably need to rely on a fam connection between computer and xdcam recorder. But if your commercials or whatever content your using needs to reach the nation then a direct master negative can be done instead. It is recommended to set the recorder to pal hdv 25p or 24p for a uk transfer, p in this case meaning progressive, ensuring pal is selected in the first stage(at least in the recorder area) for the process of tape recording, encoding with audio channels 1 and 2 for the full spectrum two channel recording with a sampling frequency of 48khz/16 bit.If i were making a short, once edited and polished being 1 minute,(100ft approx or 1440 frames) storyboarded film promoting a local indian restaurant,or taxi business, possibly starring a tv personality, then this could be a method, the final print in 1.85:1 flat with dolby sr sound would then be spliced into the entry reel, which is the final product from the cinevator, and presentable in any 35mm theater worldwide.all of this practice would be excellent for in house use,by a very indulgent theater owner,he may even do a second avi render for an upload to you tube, while a mainconcept mpeg2 at 1080/1440 would be a suitable render for hdv, while hdcam and hdcam sr, have render settings especially designated for them, these renders will take from the camcorder format and properties settings on your timeline ,try to ensure that the material is sharp by making a small adjustment, but don't over do it.Also pay some attention to the colour, and correct if necessary, this can be a vital adjustment on ones timeline before committing a print to tape .Some hdcam recorders also facilitate a firewire input, which is a very nice touch, not just to print from , but also to tape archive. For those of you wanting that 21:9 cinematic look on your videos or video to film this is how to do it. First, while in the situation of shooting mask off the top and bottom of your viewfinder assuming you have a 1:85.1 display, you will need the 21:9 aspect in your viewfinder. When the shoot is done and your back to your suite, set the properties on your timeline to 1920/800 if full hd is around what you need,or 2048/858,if 2k cinema is your goal, certainly good for dcp.Adjust pan/crop to 1,920/804 this will allow your camcorder format with it,s unmasked ratio to fill the new 21:9 ratio, please note this will work for full hd,or 2k,on sony vegas pro 12 anyway. When the job is done a decent avi render can be done,i click match property settings, that way it is full hd or 2k all the way home.Other renders can be made from this very strong render,or renders.A certain amount of resolution real estate is lost in the crop, but if your shooting in 4k this will not notice.Talking of the avi render,i find these settings work rather well.Properties colour space in 422,avi 25fps progressive,1.0000 aspect ratio, sony 10 bit yuv codec, interleave every 0.250 seconds, render quality best,ADX 16 bit colour space.NOW AUDIO; PCM uncompressed,96hz,24 bit stereo. These settings work quite well. It is worth mentioning here that alot of facilities houses or moreover filmout services and certain tv broadcast stations like''the community channel''[though i believe they now accept dvds], will want a cue in and test sequence printed to the first part of the tape, usually consisting of a 1 khz test tone and some sort of colour bar chart, these can be generated by a camcorder ,an edit suite,or the recording edit vcr itself,in my case i prefer installing this code onto my timeline in correct sequence using my cameras tone and my suites bars,so it all gets recorded to tape along with the rest of the programming. The format digital betacam was introduced in 1993,and has multiple applications. This tape is marked L meaning large,as the docking pro camcorders took the small cassette. This was and still is used for transferring onto 35mm,70mm,and 16mm cinematic film gauges, through to the wet/dry printing process with the usual choice of soundtracks. Many transfer facilities (film out) will accomodate almost all major videotape formats.I have read about 2k crt scanning for this purpose, with enhancements, but there are a few options,it's all the complete opposite to telecine which is the purpose of extracting from 35mms,as is scanning which is more recent and now uses the advanced pinning system with scanning machines,to give a more stable result, and therefore does away with recording a swaying side to side movement, this is the link to a modern high quality scanner

www.lasergraphics.com/ .I did find two film recorders on the internet called producer 3 and 4,both using the best method, taking sd to 4k and everything inbetween. Sr sound is probably being most peoples choice,as it is the cheapest, and so would still pump through the jbls of the average dolby pro logic 5.1 cinema complex. www.imagetrendsinc.com/products/index.asp_dMOBU" rel="nofollow">www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8bZI_dMOBU Most of what i have covered here involves getting things onto film which is just as important a subject as getting things off film, involving telecine and more recently scanning.Which can be done for the purpose of professional industry standard restoration of the prints, leading to production and distribution followed by secondary sales of both dvd roms and bd roms, among other things, like broadcast television and you tube uploads etc Here is a look at the Steven Speilberg movie "Jaws" and the restoration that took place, giving a considerable uplift to both image and sound, a quality unthinkable several years prior...... www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lcn06rKJn4s .And remember everything is always on something.
