Photograph taken at an altitude of Two metres at 20:42pm on Thursday 25th May 2023 around sunset at Patricia Bay , a body of salt water that extends East from the Saanich Inlet and forms part of the North Saanich shoreline in the District of North Saanich in British Columbia. It features a beautiful park which is at the south end of the Scoter Trail. Formerly known as Union Bay, the bay was named after Princess Patricia of Connaught, daughter of the Duke of Connaught who was Governor General in 1912.
The park has ties to transportation and the waterfront, and their pivotal role in the development of North Saanich. It is also tied to the development of the Victoria International Airport and military aviation efforts during the Second World War. In 1937, the airport was developed as one of six Royal Canadian Air Force Station training facilities on Vancouver Island.
The land was originally settled by the Tseycum First Nation (Union Bay Indian Reserve No.4) , one of four Saanich villages of Southern Vancouver Island in the area and part of the Northern Straits Coast Salish language group.
In the Sencoten langauge Tseycum is spelled Wsikem and means Land of Clay. The languages spoken include Lkwungen, Malchosen, Semiahmoo, SENĆOŦEN andT’Sou-ke and in 2023 the Chief is Tanya Jimmy, who was elected in July 2019. The Tseycum people have five reserves located at:
Bare Island 9, Goldstream 13, Pender Island 8, Saturna Island 7 and Union Bay 4.

Hold hard the breath and bend up every spirit for this lowly compression technology... (Had to take a few while on vacation, mostly of ruins. Blue water is lovely but it's been soooo over done and ruins and cool looking trees are much more interesting :-). Digital shooters everywhere with thine touch screen ipads, with thine SD or Compact Flash cards, with thine f 3.5 to 5.6 mid range zoom, with thine downsampled encoded and bitrate peeling codec's, with thine white flour and strobes and baby launcher. With thine Photoshop stop action color gamut correcting talents. Who hath not noble lustre in their eyes! Tonight it is once more into the darkroom. I shall set my teeth and stretch my nostril wide! For I am worth my breeding!
Film is my steed, my faithful steed. The enlarger my unsheathed sword!

Here we see a huge decaying Giant Sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum), which is also called the Giant Redwood tree and originally hails from Great Britain. The park is a 405-hectare public park in British Columbia, Canada that makes up the northwestern half of Vancouver's Downtown Peninsula, surrounded by waters of Burrard Inlet and English Bay.

The Canon EOS R5 is Canon's most advanced, complete camera in a long, long time. It has a few flaws (most notably a tendency to overheat when shooting the most demanding video codecs), but it has a very long list of virtues, including high resolution (45Mpx), great high ISO performance and dynamic range, fast burst rates (12 FPS mechanical and 20 FPS Electronic), deep buffers, great IBIS (sensor stabilization), and a truly awesome focus system. Add an amazing amount of video options and great ergonomics, and this is a camera that I simply love using. Bottom line: I bought one. Here's my review coverage:

This photograph was taken at an altitude of Fifty seven metres at 14:34pm on a cold and wintry afternoon, on December 13th 2022, and a temperature of -1 degrees, off Chessington Avenue in Bexleyheath, Kent. Here we see a Redwing(Turdus iliacus), the smallest of the Thrush family and protected under the Wildlife and countryside Act 1981 with a current status of Red.
They rarely visit gardens unless snow is on the ground, and there are only a few nesting pairs in the UK, mainly in Scotland. They migrate to the UK from the Scandinavian coast, Russia, the Faroes and Iceland, and can detect berries using Ultra violet vision.They stay in the UK from October to April.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Nine metres at 13:10pm on Saturday 13th May 2023 off Eastview Drive and Bevan Avenue on the Bevan Avenue fishing pier in Sidney on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. This is one of two resident Eagles who fish from the telegraph pole and fishing pier.
Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus Leucocephalus), derives it's name from the Greek for 'Sea eagle', and the 'bald' denotation actually derives from an older meaning of 'white headed'.Bald Eagles can be up to forty inches in length with a wingspan up to seven and a half feet and can weigh up to 6.3kgs. The females are generally 25% larger than the males.

Here we see a magnificent Great grey owl (Strix nebulosa), also great gray owl in American English, the phantom of the north, cinereous owl (this name is also used for Strix sartorii), spectral owl, Lapland owl, spruce owl, bearded owl, and sooty owl. It is known as a true owl, and is the world's largest species of owl, distributed across the Northern Hemisphere.

Here we see an adult Red-breasted goose (Branta ruficollis) from Eurasia, and sadly currently classified as vulnerable. This goose is an example of hybrid specification, being the result of ancient interbreeding between the Brant goose and the white cheeked goose, some 3.5 million years ago.

These are my son's ipod earphones, the iconic look that Apple have created. A musical zeitgeist.
I am afraid I am not a fan of the ipod. It is style over substance in my opinion, although there is no doubt it is a beautifully made piece of kit, and a very clever interface.
I want a music player to do just that - play music - and very well. I don't want it to make phone calls, or play games.
I prefer my trusty iriver h140. It stores 40 gigs of music and has incredible sound and playback settings that a sound engineer would be more than happy with.
It has an open source operating system that is continually being improved by any number of geeks around the world, and unlike Apple, these improvements are designed to make the music listening experience better, not to find better ways of getting you to download music from itunes or buy pointless apps.
What I like most about the iriver is that it is multi-codec, so if I want to play a FLAC file or an OGG VORBIS file, I can; and as these files are far superior to mp3 I often do.
I object to being told by Apple that I can only play the format that they want me to play on an ipod, which is why I don't have one.
I don't use the in ear type of earphone as in the picture. I prefer Grado SR60s. Unfortunately I cannot justify spending over £100 on headphones, but the SR60s come in under this, and the bass sound quality is equivalent to that of pro headphones.
They are made by a small company in Brooklyn NY, and I have to say that they look really cheap and plasticky, so if you worry about looking cool (which I don't) you won't want to wear a pair. However the sound quality is stunning - which after all, is the point.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Twenty one metres, at 12:38pm on Monday 9th January 2023, off Constitution Hill and Spur Road in front of Buckingham Palace with the Union flag at full mast, in The Mall next to Green Park and St James's Park in Central London.
The roads were totally sealed off by the Police as sections of The Blues and Royals (Royal Horse Guards and 1st Dragoons) and The band of the Household Cavalry rode and marched from the Palace up the Mall and back.
Formed in 1969, with both regiments history dating back to the mid-17th century, this unit is now part of the Household Cavalry.
It is the second-most senior regiment in the British Army and operates as both an armoured reconnaissance unit and a ceremonial guard of the Monarch, King Charles III. In 1982, it sent detachments to the Falklands War, where they supported The Parachute Regiment in the Battle of Wireless Ridge.
In 1992, the two Household Cavalry units’ ceremonial troops were united into the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment (HCMR), and their operational troops into the Household Cavalry Regiment (HCR). The Blues and Royals contribute two squadrons to the HCR and one squadron to the HCMR. They are based in Windsor and central London respectively.
Since 1992, squadrons of The Blues and Royals have served with the HCR in Bosnia in 1994-95 and Kosovo in 1999. Members of The Blues and Royals also regularly deployed to Iraq (2003-11) and Afghanistan (2001-14).

This is a Caligo eurilochus (Forest Giant Owl) butterfly, found in the rainforest and secondary forests of North and South Americas, and banana plantations where it is considered an agricultural pest. It has a twenty four day lifespan and a wingspan of up to almost 14 cms.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Three metres at 20:22pm on Thursday 25th May 2023 around sunset at Patricia Bay , a body of salt water that extends East from the Saanich Inlet and forms part of the North Saanich shoreline in the District of North Saanich in British Columbia. It features a beautiful park which is at the south end of the Scoter Trail. Formerly known as Union Bay, the bay was named after Princess Patricia of Connaught, daughter of the Duke of Connaught who was Governor General in 1912.
The park has ties to transportation and the waterfront, and their pivotal role in the development of North Saanich. It is also tied to the development of the Victoria International Airport and military aviation efforts during the Second World War. In 1937, the airport was developed as one of six Royal Canadian Air Force Station training facilities on Vancouver Island.
The land was originally settled by the Tseycum First Nation (Union Bay Indian Reserve No.4) , one of four Saanich villages of Southern Vancouver Island in the area and part of the Northern Straits Coast Salish language group.
In the Sencoten langauge Tseycum is spelled Wsikem and means Land of Clay. The languages spoken include Lkwungen, Malchosen, Semiahmoo, SENĆOŦEN andT’Sou-ke and in 2023 the Chief is Tanya Jimmy, who was elected in July 2019. The Tseycum people have five reserves located at:

The Canon EOS R5 is Canon's most advanced, complete camera in a long, long time. It has a few flaws (most notably a tendency to overheat when shooting the most demanding video codecs), but it has a very long list of virtues, including high resolution (45Mpx), great high ISO performance and dynamic range, fast burst rates (12 FPS mechanical and 20 FPS Electronic), deep buffers, great IBIS (sensor stabilization), and a truly awesome focus system. Add an amazing amount of video options and great ergonomics, and this is a camera that I simply love using. Bottom line: I bought one. Here's my review coverage:

This photograph was taken at an altitude of Fifty seven metres at 10:04am on a cold and wintry morning, on December 12th 2022, following overnight snow and a temperature of -3 degrees, off Chessington Avenue in Bexleyheath, Kent.Here we see a Rock Dove or Feral pigeon (Columba livia) perched up on a rooftop.
They are a wild ancestor of domestic world pigeons. A common sight in UK gardens, and traditionally seen on London postcards of Piccadilly circus until the feeding of pigeons was banned, they can weigh up to 370g with a wingspan of 34cms. There are approximately 550,000 breeding pairs in the UK.

Viewing a Lithops flower for twenty-four hours, from midnight to midnight.
You may notice the huge crack at the bottom of the flower stem - this probably was the bad result of watering the plant during bud growth.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Eighty two metres at 11:38am on Thursday 25th May 2023 off Keating cross and Benvenuto Avenue at the Butterfly gardens in Victoria, located in Brentwood Bay, British Columbia.
This is a Costa Rican Owl butterfly (Caligo memnon), is one of twenty species of Owl butterflies found in rainforests, tropical forests and secondary forests of Mexico, Central and South America. In Costa Rica, they can be found at Rincón de la Vieja National Park, Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, Cahuita National Park and Palo Verde National Park to name a few. They inhabit a range of elevations and ecosystems.
They have a lifespan of 125-133 days and can measure up to 200mm in length. The eyes on the wings are a defence mechanism against birds.

Photograph taken at 11:24am on Monday 3rd March 2025 at an altitude of Forty one metres in the Grounds of Warnham Nature Reserve in Horsham, West Sussex. The Millpond dates back to the 16th Century and parts of the woodland dates back even further to the 13th Century. A beautiful location for a walk, or to sit amongst nature and so see birds and butterflies in their natural habitat.
The Mute swan (Cygnus olor) is a species of swan and a member of the waterfowl family Anatidae. It is native to much of Eurasia, and the far north of Africa.

Photograph taken at 10:16am on Wednesday 16th July 2025 at an altitude of Fifty two in the Grounds of Warnham Nature Reserve in Horsham, West Sussex. This is a Marsh frog (Pelophylax ridibundus), a species of frog which are native to continental Europe and Western Asia. They are not a native species in the UK but were introduced in Kent in the 1930's.
The Millpond dates back to the 16th Century and parts of the woodland dates back even further to the 13th Century. A beautiful location for a walk, or to sit amongst nature and so see birds and butterflies in their natural habitat.

Here we see a pair of beautiful Canada geese (Branta canadensis)
The Lagoon is one of seven Migratory Bird Sanctuaries in British Columbia, and an important stopover for birds journeying between North and South America. Visitors include geese and Swans, Bald Eagles and Great Blue Herons, plus many other species of birds.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Seventy metres at 12:52pm on Thursday 25th May off Keating Cros Road and Benvenuto Avenue at Victoria Butterfly Gardens in Brentwood Bay on Vancouver Island in Brirish Columbia, Canada.
This is a Blue Morpho (Morpho Peleides) butterfly, one of the largest butterflies in the world with a wingspan up to eight inches. Light reflects from the microscopic scales on their wingbacks, giving a vivid iridescent appearance, and they are mainly seen active and in flight, resting only briefly. They are found in the tropical rainforests of Latin America from Mexico to Columbia.

This is a Rusty-tipped Page (Siproeta epaphus) , also known as the brown siproeta, a New World butterfly that lives all year in tropical habitats. It has large wings, averaging 7.0–7.5 cm, that are black in the inner portion of the top surface and brown throughout the underside.In Greek mythology Epaphus is the son of Zeus and Io who founded the city of Memphis in Egypt.

The Great Blue Heron (Ardea Herodias) is a wading bird in the Heron family Ardeidae and found in North America, Central America, the Caribbean and Galapagos Islands. One of the largest of Herons, it has a head to tail length of 01-137 centimetres (36-54 inches) and a wingspan of 187-201 centimetres (66-79 inches). They are found where my family live, and naturally very wary of mankind, flying off as soon as you are within fifty to one hundred yards of them.

In the foreground is a Dawn Redwood tree (Metasequoia glyptostroboides) which is also known as the Dawn Cypress and was originally cultivated in Great Britain. Behind it is a decaying Giant Sequoi (Sequoiadendron giganteum), which is also called the Giant Redqwood tree. The park is a 405-hectare public park in British Columbia, Canada that makes up the northwestern half of Vancouver's Downtown Peninsula, surrounded by waters of Burrard Inlet and English Bay.

This is my lil sis Samm i just bought this camera brand new Yesterday so i was anxious to try it out! and grabbed her and took out side our house to take a quick shot lol i guess some of the neighbors were spooked to see these lights goin off so we got the cops called on us hahaha but i just told em im tryin out my new camera and that i live right here and he said oh its really no big deal just gotta drive by to make sure it aint anything sketchy lol so then we wrapped it up. the bad side was when i got home my computer wasnt reading the new t2i codec so non of my photos could be processed on photoshop. after an our of a panic attack i settled down and looked for any leads to figure this out. which in the end lead to me completely upgrading my entire cs4 creative suit to recognize the new codecs that come with the new DSLRs so problem averted and now im stoked to get used to this camera and its HD video feature!

Photograph taken at an altitude of Five metres at 07:52am on Wednesday 17th May 2023 off Lone Cone Road from the front garden of a seventy year old house I was renting in Campbell Street, Tofino in British Columbia in Canada.
Eastern Raccoons (Procyon lotor) are native to the southern BC mainland, one of many different sub species of Raccoon, but are an introduced invasive species on Haida Gwaii.
They were introduced in the 1940s to enhance the local fur trade, but they represent a significant threat to ground-nesting marine birds. My family refer to them as 'Trash Panda's', but I love them. They are also known as Racoons, Coons or Common Racoons

Photograph taken at an altitude of Two hundred and forty one metres at 15.11pm on Tuesday May 7th 2024 off South Street in Rhayader, Mid-Wales from the Low level professional photography hide at Gigrin Farm feeding station.
This is a rare Leucistic Red Kite (Milvus Milvus), one of only ten currently known in the world. Leucism is caused by a partial loss of pigmentation, resulting in white feathers on a bird.The Red Kite (Milvus Milvus) is a medium sized bird of prey (Raptor) in the Accipitridae family, and was saved from national extinction by a long running protection programme.
It has now been successfully re-introduced into England and Scotland, and Wales, and they are listed under schedule 1 of the Wildlife and Countryside act, currently with a green status. They can reach 66cms in length with up to a 195cms wingspan, and there around 4,600 breeding pairs in the UK in 2024.

Photograph taken at an altitude of One hundred and eighty nine metres at 14:05pm on Thursday 7th September 2023 off the A386 in Roborough Down in Dartmoor, Devon.
Dartmoor ponies are free tom roam and graze across the landscape here and have done so for centuries. They are a single colour, hardy breed with records going back to 1012 AD acknowledging their presence and footprints being discovered that date back 3,500 years!
There are several breeds, including pedigree Dartmoor ponies , Dartmoor hill ponies and Shetland ponies .

Just today, 11-08-20, copied VOB MiniDV files from DVD to the Passport HD via edits on MovAVI conversion to MP4 files.
The HP Windows Media Player and other player gave up playing VOB files then the three players gave up playing both codecs, so rebooted and new WIN updates and OK...
MovAVI was good at joining stray smaller clips onto the neighbouring larger files and saving as MP4...
The DELL stil plays the VOBand MP4 files with a click or Open with....
Have copied 19 video files to the WD MyCloud to play on the TV or maybe post to YouTube
Then to add links to the still images here.

This is my lil sis Samm i just bought this camera brand new Yesterday so i was anxious to try it out! and grabbed her and took out side our house to take a quick shot lol i guess some of the neighbors were spooked to see these lights goin off so we got the cops called on us hahaha but i just told em im tryin out my new camera and that i live right here and he said oh its really no big deal just gotta drive by to make sure it aint anything sketchy lol so then we wrapped it up. the bad side was when i got home my computer wasnt reading the new t2i codec so non of my photos could be processed on photoshop. after an our of a panic attack i settled down and looked for any leads to figure this out. which in the end lead to me completely upgrading my entire cs4 creative suit to recognize the new codecs that come with the new DSLRs so problem averted and now im stoked to get used to this camera and its HD video feature!
