Here we see a juvenile Eurasian Magpie(Pica pica), of the Corvidae family. There is still blue colouration to the right eye and beak which vanish as it matures. Eurasian black and white Magpies are considered amongst the most intelligent animals in the world, capable in tests of recognising human faces, themselves in a mirror or hub cap, and of solving a variety of tests.

The Audio PICtail Plus Daughter Board is used with the Explorer 16 Development Board to facilitate rapid implementation, development and testing of full duplex speech and audio applications. The card features low cost speech and audio playback circuitry, microphone and line pre-amp with adjustable gain control, headphone amplifier, 16/24 bit codec for high fidelity applications and 4 Mega bit serial flash memory. The card also features circuitry required for the dsPIC DSC devices with Audio DAC.

The original intention here was to compare a Fraps capture side by side with a Hypercam capture of the same challenging material (in this case a benchmark courtesy of Crysis) for a subjective indication of dropped frames, pauses in capture and general image quality. In practice though, Hypercam needed soo much tweaking to perform reasonably at even relatively small frame sizes of 800x600 at 30fps and 24/32bit colour, the comparison was over before it really began.
Although it looks ok here if you ignore the dropped frames, the Hypercam component had to be captured as a raw uncompressed stream which isn't very practical. The extra overhead imposed by the few basic codecs that were tested proved to be too much at anything more than 16 bit colour depth, resulting in captures that were either butt ugly or so mangled as to be useless.
It does demonstrate some shortcomings of the Fraps codec too though, with what seems to be some sort of contrast/gamma shift in the Fraps output, as well as a handful of dropped frames. As their codec appears to be proprietary and non configurable, there's probably not much that can be done about the image quality. Must look into that.
Hypercam is far from perfect, and even to get this far a couple of known bugs had to be sidestepped, but to be fair this is their free version (v2.27) which might not have much in common with the commercial offering (v3.x). On the plus side it's far more configurable than Fraps, it's free, it isn't confined to game-type use, it's free, you can choose the codec to use, it's free, there's no artificial limitation of recording length and no watermarks. Oh and it's free.
Ok Fraps is free too.. albeit the crippled version.
Before giving up on Hypercam completely I'm going to make one last attempt with a higher performance codec like Divx if it's still available. Otherwise Xvid.

I'm using a new video editing program (Adobe Premiere Pro) and it said, upon initial video import, that the codec used by my small digital camera is not supported.
So I had to convert it to a format it could understand. I chose DV for sake of time. DV only has one pixel size (720x480) which is why this has the wrong aspect ratio. Also, DV is meant for TV, and that's why the interlacing is whack.
Will work on this later.

I imported two MPG videos from our camera into VirtualDub (convert to AVI, append one onto the other). Then rotated the video to portrait format, saved using the Microsoft Video 1 codec with compression at quality = 0.70.
Flickr's FAQ includes the following list of the file formats Flickr accepts:
* AVI (proprietary codecs may not work)
* WMV
* MOV (AVID or other proprietary codecs may not work)
* MPEG (1, 2, and 4)
* 3gp
By trial and error, I found that Flickr does not accept the Indeo v5.10 AVI codec but does accept the Microsoft Video 1 AVI codec.
It's the weekend before Christmas 2002 and CHR is running another broadcast event in the foyer of St Richard's Hospital in Chichester.
We set up a mobile studio in the reception area and broadcast live from there using a pair of telephone codecs.
Chichester Hospital Radio will celebrate it's 40th Anniversary in 2012 and this image is part of a collection gathered over the years.
From this archive we can look back and discover many familiar faces that are still with the association, all be it they are a little older, and a few absent friends that are sadly no longer with us.
