French Green Clay w Castille Dots
French Green Clay with Castille Polka Dots - Great for shaving or a face bar.
This bar was made with Olive, Coconut, Palm, Soybean and Africa's Best Oil with Ginsing. Have you ever seen Africa's Best Oils? They are originally for thicker, richer, ethnic hair, and loaded with great stuff like:
Soy Bean Oil, Walnut Seed Oil, Kiwi Fruit Extract, Olive Fruit Oil, Castor Seed Oil, Sesame Seed Oil, Jojoba Seed Oil, Carrot Seed Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate, Safflower Oil, Calendula Extract, Yarrow Extract, Cucumber Extract, Carrageenan Extract, Ginseng Extract, Sage Extract, Comfrey Extract, Aloe Extract, and Fragrance.
All good and all natural! The scent is a light very pleasant almost baby powdery type. I like it a lot.
Here's a little bit about French Green Clay from one of my favorite websites www.mountainroseherbs.com:
"French Green Clay (Also Known as Illite Clay or Sea Clay) is very absorbent, and literally "drinks" oils, toxic substances, and impurities from your skin. Its toning action stimulates the skin by bringing fresh blood to damaged skin cells, revitalizing the complexion, and tightening pores. Mined from bedrock quarries in France, it is sun-dried, completely natural, unscented, and fragrance free. Green clay is a bio-mineral, and contains decomposed plant matter as well as many trace minerals, such as: silica, aluminum, magnesium, calcium, iron, phosphorus, sodium, potassium, copper, zinc, selenium, cobalt, manganese, phosphorous, silicon, micro-algaes, kelp, and phyto-nutrients. Green Clay has analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties which make it beneficial for muscular pain, swelling, and arthritic or rheumatic conditions. Cosmetically, French Green clay is revered for its ability to stimulate blood and lymph circulation, remove dead skin cells, absorb impurities and fats, and tone and strengthen connective tissues. After using French Green clay, skin feels fresh, smooth, radiant, and soft. French Green Clay is also marvelous for helping to clear problem skin areas, and is gentle enough to use weekly, or even daily on problem spots."
It's good to let your soap air out between uses for a longer lasting bar. Store your handmade soaps in a cool dry place letting them breathe. I cut mine in quarters to make them last longer :-) and this way I can use a different soap everyday - yay me!
Hand crafted soaps are so good for your skin. No added chemicals and all the natural glycerin is retained. I'll never go back to buying store bought chemically infiltrated soaps.

With the refreshing scent of peppermint essential oil, aritha, castor oil, sunflower oil, shea butter, rosemary essential oil and rice bran as a superfat this shampoo bar is ideal for extra deep cleansing and all hair types.
Shampoo Bar All Natural Essential Oils and Extracts
I've been mulling around with this idea for quite some time. I've used my own soaps for shampoo bars and that was alright with me. But after researching forever I've created a recipe specifically for hair.
My hair is waist length, dry and curly with flyaway baby hairs that drive me nuts. This shampoo bar leaves my hair very soft, controls the flyaways, smells nice. I even woke up in the middle of the night because the smell and feel of my scalp was so intensely soft I couldn't believe it! It cleans beautifully, leaving my hair shinny, soft and even full bodied!
So let me break down the ingredients…
My base oils are: Olive, Coconut, Palm, Castor, Wheatgerm, Jojoba, Walnut, Rice, Avocado, Sunflower and Shea Butter.
Essential oils used are: Rosemary, Carrot Seed, Calendula
Extracts are: Nettle and Chamomile
Also added: Liquid Silk, Vitamin E, Fresh Aloe Vera and BTMS (vegetable based conditioning emulsifier)
I've added no extra coloring or scent to this save the wonderful natural scent of these oils combined! I love this shampoo bar and it's been a long time coming. I hope you enjoy it the same and I encourage you to research these ingredients to find out just how wonderful and beneficial they are for your hair.

As with most Beija-Flor Natural products the Cali Peach Pomade can be used on both hair and skin! This product gives the shine and control of good old fashion hair grease and the skin protection of a body balm without the icky chemicals.
We use Passion Fruit, Peach Kernel and Coconut oils to nourish the scalp, correct split ends and serve as a shine enhancing agent for all hair types especially heat treated, chemically relaxed and color treated hair. On the body, this product is great for chapped skin that needs protection in the chilly winter months.
It has 100% vegetarian ingredients and does not contain mineral oil or other petrochemicals. The firm texture is non-greasy/sticky and won't clog pours like other chemically concocted pomades. All of this goodness topped with a mouthwatering fragrance will be your biggest ally in the brutal winter months!
Suggested Use for Naturally Curly Hair: This product is great for sealing in moisture, use alone or layered on top of leave-in conditioner for optimum shine and softness. Can also be used to smooth edges of hair.
Suggested Use for Body: Emulsify a small amount of product in palm of hands and apply all over body. For super soft skin use on damp skin after shower.
Active Ingredients: Peach Kernel Oil, Passion Fruit Oil, Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Grapeseed Oil, Shea Butter, Castor Oil, Vitamin E

Beet puree and melted chocolate add a ton of moisture to these decadent bars, made ever so slightly chewy with a touch of gluten flour and topped off with a chocolate silken tofu mousse.
These decadent, tender cookies get their richness from cottage cheese , whey powder and a protein-fortified milk, and have added nutrients from chickpea and oat flour. The decadence comes from a hefty helping of chocolate!

I don't often think in terms of calories, glycemic load, specific vitamin or mineral counts. As farmers, we have tons (probably quite literally) of amazing veggies right out the back door. Good clean well-raised meat is only as far away as the venison or home-raised broiler chickens in our chest freezer or the tent next to ours at market every week. We keep a larder stocked to the hilt with real, whole ingredients. We eat a fair amount of fat but only what we consider to be the good stuff, the stuff people have been eating for a very long time: extra virgin olive oil, butter, unrefined coconut oil, and real lard. We're blessed with work that keeps us moving around for much of the day. I also acknowledge the power of good genes. And I agree with Michael Pollan when he says Americans have become so obsessed with nutrition that we have forgotten how to feed ourselves and the people we love.
And so I don't worry much about the cakes and scones and cookies I love to bake and gobble up and share -- they bring me pleasure, and they're just one piece of our pretty darn healthy diet.
But.
My sweet tooth kicked into seriously high gear somewhere around the middle of my second trimester, and I've been thinking maybe I need to reel it in a little for the sake of the little Beckham/Baryshnikov/Beyoncé dancing around in this belly of mine. Mainly, I'm trying to curb the amount of white flour and white sugar I bake with -- for now, anyway -- and concentrate even more on feeding myself and the little monkey with real food.
But I still want cookies.
Heidi to the rescue! This afternoon I made Nikki's Healthy Cookies. They're chock full of bananas, coconut, ground nuts, oats -- real foods every one -- and I can report that they are scrumptious.
Square vanilla butter cakes on white plate. Dish towel on teak wood. Light effect. High point of view.
I had to admit I was skeptical when I was making these, but the muffins I adapted slightly from Cooking for the Specific Carbohydrate Diet: Over 100 Easy, Healthy, and Delicious Recipes that are Sugar-Free, Gluten-Free, and Grain-Free by Erica Kerwien really do taste like cinnamon buns - without the gooey mess!

Inspired by Pioneer Woman's recipe for "Good Morning Muffins", I used guava marmalade, unrefined coconut oil and dried cranberries in the half-whole-wheat and buttermilk batter. They smelled deliciously rich and tropical!

Gluten free oats, brown rice flour, cornmeal and flaxseed star in this sweet-tart cookie packed with chopped fresh (or frozen) cranberries! Virgin coconut oil adds a hint of extra flavour too - you'll never miss the dairy, eggs or gluten!

We use coconut oil as one of our main cooking fats, along with local pastured butter and organic olive oil. Coconut oil has a higher smoking point than olive oil and butter, so it's very useful in high heat cooking. It makes the best popcorn when mixed with ghee and you can't beat potatoes fried in coconut oil. I've tried many different brands of coconut oil, and a few different varieties before finding Tropical Traditions and falling in love with their products. I have many of their products in my pantry: Gold Label Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, Expeller Pressed Coconut Oil, Coconut Cream, Shredded Coconut and I also get my tuna from them and I love them all - if you're looking for great quality coconut products look no further.
I use the various Tropical Traditions products for different things. The Gold Label Extra Virgin is a fragrant coconut oil, meaning that is smells of coconut and infuses food with a slight coconut flavor. If you've ever tried using it for cooking mushrooms or something you quickly realize that it works in some applications and not others. I do not like the virgin oil when it comes to frying potatoes, mushrooms, onions or other savory type applications. It does however work beautifully in baked goods where a hint of coconut enhances the flavor. I use the Virgin Coconut oil in my healthy carrot oatmeal bites. It also makes basmati rice taste exotic and tropical. Simple add one Tablespoon for each cup of rice and you'll be pleasantly surprised at how delicious the rice is. I also use it for hand & body lotion, hair conditioner and I use it to season all of my wooden cooking utensils. I love having one product I can use for so many things.

This is a recipe that comes from the Zoku Quick Pop Maker's blog. They are super, super tasty and the homemade magic shell just blew my mind. Who knew something so awesome could be made with only two ingredients (chocolate & coconut oil)!

The large-scale conglomeration of my favourite pie dough, my mom's Apple Square topping and a new apple pie filling I whipped up with a blend of Pyure stevia baking blend, regular sugar, cinnamon and cornstarch. The kids tomorrow will be surprised!
Chocolate cupcakes made with coconut oil, vanilla frosting made with coconut oil.
I am so well pleased with my coconut oil experimentation.
I made vanilla frosting incorporating coconut oil. It is not purely coconut oil, but rather a combination of butter, Crisco®, and Tropical Traditions® black label coconut oil.
The moon pies and cupcakes are boxed cake mix which is incredibly inexpensive. I divided the box in half by weight and made two batches, one with coconut oil and one with vegetable oil. The batch with coconut oil won hands down.
Cupcakes at altitude is a bit of a trick. You can not get a straightforward answer on this by searching the internet. Most recommendations are to add a few tablespoons flour and to increase the eggs. I just backed off from the water instead of adding flour. I oiled the pans with coconut oil and used a scant tablespoon of batter per cup. This turned out to be too much. Pictured above are the coconut oil batches using a tablespoon of batter. Later batches used a teaspoon of batter. Made with vegetable oil, they all collapsed.
The moon pies were made with a coconut oil and a tablespoon of batter. I dropped the batter on Silpat®. I should have used only a teaspoon and even denser batter. Oh well. Next time.
For the record, this frosting is not an improvement over commercial frosting, IMHO. But I'm not giving up. It occurs to me buttermilk, or cream cheese would be an improvement. I collected a dozen recipes and averaged the amounts. All the recipes I collected said, "This is the best!" They're not. It's a bit too saccharine to suit me. Another thing I learned; the bowl of my Bosch mixer sits atop the motor which gets hot. It doesn't do to blend saturated fats for much longer than a few minutes. It melts the fat, and that doesn't do. I had to re-chill it and fluff again. Although the coconut oil is very stable at room temperature, it hardens more than butter when chilled. It's fun.
Still, after all I've read on high altitude baking, cakes, cupcakes etc., and the difficulties encountered by bakers, I must say, coconut oil appears to be the perfect ingredient to control results. I melted it to liquify the fat before mixing it in.

The ice bucket is awesome because we had just ruined 2 of our insulated ones by putting them both into the dishwasher. This metal Budweiser one is larger than any ice bucket we have owned, but it still fits in our freezer.
Carolyn is trying to grow her hair out, and she heard that coconut oil is good for conditioning the ends, so she put it on her wishlist.
The bubblegum vodka was very tasty. We had some at our pre-New Year's Eve party.
We got Rummikub, which we've wanted since playing it at Cape Cod! And Left-Center-Right, which we've wanted since playing it at one of Brad & Mandy's parties!
The celebrity pop-up book is entertaining, but broke upon first use like pop-up books oft do.
The spinning light was actually needed, because we were almost considering buying another one for ourselves. However, the lightbulb is so dim that it barely does anything. Once it burns out, we will see about replacing it with a brighter bulb.
Carolyn got Clint a new electric shaver, since the beard trimmer on his no longer worked, so he had been using 2 different devices (hair trimmer + electric razor) to shave. Now he can go back to using one device.
Foot Rubz - is for Clint's chronic foot pain.
Christmas gifts, Christmas presents, DVD, Kryptonite, Left Center Right dice game, Rummikub board game, bookends, bubblegum vodka, camping, coconut oil, crocs purse, dish towels, electric razor, flamingo skeleton lawn ornament, foot massager, glasses, glowstick, ice bucket, popup, shotglasses, skulls, spinning light.

Here's a little bit about Rhassoul Clay from one of my favorite websites www.mountainroseherbs.com:
"Rhassoul clay is a truly exquisite Spa quality clay from ancient deposits unearthed from the fertile Atlas mountains of Morocco where it has been used for over 1400 years as a skin conditioner, soap, and shampoo. This clay has a long history, and was used in ancient Rome and Egypt by those of nobility. Rhassoul is a mineral rich, reddish/brown clay that blends extremely well with water making its application to the face and skin a smooth and delightful experience. Today, upscale spas and resorts across the globe utilize the toning and enriching benefits offered by Rhassoul clay. It is very high in trace minerals such as silica, magnesium, iron, calcium, potassium and sodium, making it truly one of the finest treasures for pampering your skin. Because of the high mineral content, astringent properties, and absorption properties, Rhassoul clay is a wonderful and effective clay for cleansing, detoxification, and for general skin care treatments.
