On this day I had really left it late to take my daily picture.
I spotted these old playing cards laying around the house, so I decided to stack them up.
The shadow wasn't actually intentional, as I spotted it after lifting the camera to my eye!
Near the head of a new river trail located not far from our house. I'm always drawn in by the magic of grassy patches in the woods.

The Germantown Deli was a fixture of soups, sandwiches, pickles and around Christmas time, cookies, chocolates and treats. The owner ran it for decades (by himself), and decided to pack it in and retire in 2018.
There's nothing wrong with its replacement on this block. Toro Taqueria is a worthy replacement - the food there is quite good. Just not as fun in, you know, a German kind of way.

This gentleman has about the best spot in the Byward Market. Lots of foot traffic, sunshine, people in a good mood because of the mild weather - sales are up!
I spent a big chunk of my summers swimming in this pond on our property. I hate to see it overgrown and neglected, but it'll always be a special place in my memories..
KODAK PRODUCTS FOR SALE HERE (According to google translate)
One of the things that I appreciate about Venice, and Italy in general, is that they allow the old to coexist with the new. Old and new buildings, signs, and art occupy the same space everywhere you look.
I appreciate that even something this old Kodak sign is kept displayed in the walkway. The shop that used this for advertising is long gone, but this reminder of what previously occupied the space remains.

I didn't manage to get outdoors today, so I created my own lighting at home.
Using my Manfrotto Lumimuse, I up-lighted these dried flowers.
It's handy having a small portable LED light, especially during these darker evenings!

An overcast day at the famous walled garden at Scampston Hall, but plenty of colour still in the flower beds and borders in the 'outdoor' rooms.
The wildflower meadow around the base of the mound has just been cut, hence the untidy appearance of the area.

Gorgeous juvenile flipped underneath a rock in NE Georgia, USA.
Attached link is my paper on head size variation within this species (mature males may develop larger jaw size, possibly reflecting mate-guarding behavior as seen in some Eurycea sp.):
