Almost five years later, I returned to the same place. It is the art laboratory of a large mental health institution. In the current image, I saw the "Counting Days" mural only as a mirror image. Five years earlier, I had taken a more direct picture of the same mural, as you can see here:

Today I went by a public garden in Palo Alto, Calif., not far from home. On most visits, I encounter this very friendly dude (or dudette). Apparently, it's a garden cat, likely living on the fruits of the garden. I hope there is a shelter in one of the maintenance houses, but who knows? Regardless, he/she seems quite healthy and is always photo-friendly. #classicnegative
This is Dubai Design District aka D3, a very photogenic place
On this particular day there was some (rare) cloud cover blocking the sun behind Burj Khalifa otherwise this would be impossible to expose properly :D
In downtown Menlo Park, Calif., tonight, I noted the "bike car" on our CalTrain line. CalTrain does a lot of advertising this time of year to encourage New Year's Eve partiers to take the train. Be safe out there. #classicnegative
Every couple of months I visit the Elizabeth Gamble Historic Home and Garden in downtown Palo Alto, Calif. It’s always interesting to check out the seasonal plants and displays, with perhaps the hope I will learn something. On this afternoon’s trip, I encountered one of the local residents. He/She (pronoun unknown) was completely at ease around my camera, mostly ignoring me in order to focus on some prey. Shortly after I snapped this pic, she left her hiding spot, darted into some heavy brush and likely got her meal. #classicnegative
.. architeXture in Mannheim .. the Black Friday Mekka of the planet .. hope you didn't break the bank for camera stuff .. happy Sunday :)
On today's walk, I encountered a neighborhood construction crew. I decided to take this pic as a reminder that I can't construct anything. I have zero talents in the home fix-it department, and the only thing I know how to do is put gloves on. Not certain why my wife married me.
Photographed using Lensbaby Sol 45mm lens..
Original RAF file processed with DXO PureRAW 2, before creation of JPEG in Lightroom 6.2.
While driving a back road somewhere between Tennessee and North Carolina last week, I spotted this inviting spot in the creek just inside WNC.
I wish I'd set my camera to shoot RAW on that trip, so I could capture more of the beautiful colors here. I like the "Classic Negative" film simulation, but it's not always the best choice for landscapes. Lesson learned! Still, I think it's not a half-bad picture.
I took a bunch of photos while back up in New England, but this morning scene from my final stroll yesterday was truly a gift from nature.
My post-lunch coffee today was at Philz, a small chain in California. Their specialty is making each cup of coffee to order and as a pour over. There’s not a coffee pot to be found. But, this means a bit of a wait for each individualized order. The coffee is so good that I did not mind. By the way, based on my unscientific demographic study of the customers, I am not the “target audience” for this particular experience. #classicneg
I was focusing on my favorite convenience store to photograph and I saw a biker coming into the frame and I decided to include him in the composition. I was really happy with the results even though the punctum of this photograph —what Roland Barthes defines as the aspect of an image that moves a viewer in a deep or emotional way— was intended to be the dimly lit Parklaine Variety sign.
This is the beauty of photography; one often arrives with a specific goal in mind but it is often the accidents or unplanned events that make an image stand out.
