I went for an early morning walk during a break from our much-needed Northern California rain. Just down the road, in a cul-de-sac area, everyone has their mailboxes mounted together. To me, it's a nice throwback. Seemingly untouched by 2022 or modern technology, this could be a moment from 40 years ago -- or did we not have recycling then? #happynewyear
Out on my morning walk, I noticed the Halloween decor of black cats against a local fence. To offset the bad luck that comes with having the cats cross my path, I took some berry pics. Maybe this contrast will even things out in the universe. #classicnegative

To cultivate the right instrument of perception, there must be no comparison, for when you compare you cease to understand. If you compare, approximate, you are being merely Competitive, ambitious, and your end then is success in which inherently is failure. Comparison implies a pattern of authority according to which you are measuring and guiding yourself. The oppression of authority cripples understanding. Comparison may produce a desired result but it is an impediment to self-knowledge. Comparison implies time and time does not yield understanding - J Krishnamurti
I went to grab takeout pizza tonight at Amici's restaurant in Menlo Park, Calif. Few pay cash anymore, so these pens were front and center in the waiting area –– and poised for my whipping out the credit card. I obliged, of course. The bill for the two pizzas was $61 plus tip. For that price, they should have given me a souvenir pen.
Our family has many coffee cups to choose from, but Santa figured I could use one more. He was right. #classicnegative
Chryseis sitting on decommissioned railroad tracks (stay off live tracks, kids!) in Senoia, Georgia. Shot using the Classic Negative film simulation, with edits in post.
The bridge behind her was apparently featured in more than one famous movie. Senoia is also known as the city where The Walking Dead series was filmed.

Well, with 16 years of training, one might expect some compliance with the rules. However, our beloved Domino has quite the independent spirit, and will never –– and I mean never –– stop walking on kitchen counters. Total defiance. Get used to it, I guess. #classicnegative
When I think of Enchantments, I think of alpine lakes and golden larches, and indeed that's what I've shown in my last two posts. However, for my 2022 Enchantments trip, the haze was pretty heavy during my stay especially later in the days due to the ongoing wildfire. But this also helps to create a different mood for the landscape.
This image was taken during a hazy sunset, when my friends and I were just walking around to explore the area. I really like how the U-Shaped valley frames the mountains in the distance.
Good friend and neighbours Gary & Keeva going for a car ride. Gary said that she was most eager to join, but little did she know that it was only a quick drive to the local gas bar.
KODAK PRODUCTS FOR SALE HERE (According to google translate)
One of the things that I appreciate about Venice, and Italy in general, is that they allow the old to coexist with the new. Old and new buildings, signs, and art occupy the same space everywhere you look.
I appreciate that even something this old Kodak sign is kept displayed in the walkway. The shop that used this for advertising is long gone, but this reminder of what previously occupied the space remains.

Due to a crazy schedule of meetings, a lunch break seemed unlikely today. So, my wife told me to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, then cram it down whenever. But, some things changed and the plan didn't work out. As a result, my wife told me the leftover sandwich would be my dinner tonight –– plus a small salad. Yes, I eat like a king. #classicnegative
An ancient, but still living, sugar maple bears the remnants of barbed wire strung up years ago. It's one of the few surviving giants growing along a section of the old Sanborn Road, close to my childhood home. I hiked through here frequently as a kid. Most of the other larger trees have fallen or are dying.
This is "SOOC," save for a bit of extra sharpening. The default JPEG setting on the X100v leaves images a bit soft for my taste. I've just adjusted the sharpness setting to +1 to see if that does the trick.
While waiting on my to-go order at a local restaurant, I passed the time shooting shadows on the floor. Boring, I guess. But, when I caught someone walking into the frame, the mundane became a tad more interesting. Or, maybe it sucks. I don’t know, but I liked it. #classicnegative
Afternoon photo walks of late have been into downtown areas, not my usual neighborhoods. Regardless of day, time or location, I always see things to let me know that I'm having a better day than most. I should remember this when complaining about something trivial, like finding a parking space. #redwoodcity
While waiting on a to-go order in downtown Palo Alto, Calif., tonight, I took a short walk. On a whim, as things were getting dark, I put my camera on ISO 12800. I seldom go above 6400.
Well, I think 12800 works OK. Not great, but usable. A few years ago, ISO 1600 was considered the upper limit. Of course, some of the recent cameras go up to 51200, so I guess I'm late to the high-ISO game. #classicnegative

A closeup of the frame, this was a challenge to compose. Tried many different angles but this fairly basic one seemed to work the best
Today, I stopped by Philz Coffee in Menlo Park, Calif. The place was so crowded that I was relegated to a bench seat. Of course, this could have been some sort of punishment for my demographic crimes. I was at least three decades older than anyone else there. Next time, I'll ask for a senior discount. :) #classicnegative
