It was a fine day in December 1975, and I rode over to Fosse Road to take some pictures.
The young bobby let me in the box, and let me know the type of train that was approaching. This one was the loaded Fawley - Longport LPG tanks, unusually headed by an ETH loco from Crewe depot.
The signal box would close the following year, already the entry to the down loop on which I stood had been taken out, leaving just a refuge siding in place that was rarely used. Soon the area would resort to plain double track, with over eight miles between Leamington Spa and Greaves Siding boxes.
This proved to be short sighted, and in the mid 1980's the Leamington - Banbury section had to be re-signalled with colour lights every 1000 yards or so.

47749, built 1965, stands at the front of a Class 350 EMU which it rescued the day before during Storm Doris.
The original design specification for the Brush Type 4 required 81 locos being built without any provision for train heat in the number series D1782-D1836 & D1875-D1900 later 47301-381. As a result of this they were always rare on passenger services, mainly confined to the summer no heat months, with some being rarer than others.
A rarer than most engine was Thornabys pet engine 47361 Wilton Endeavour. Here it is seen at Lancaster on the 1640 Nottingham-Barrow service, a good bet for No heat 47's at the time on 15th June 1984. It then promptly got nicked and put into the "Preston Whirlpool" as they were prone to do, working several trains in the area over the next few days.

47711 working South through Grantham station on the 22nd Jan 1998 with 6L79 13.13 Doncaster to Harwich. A fav train of mine at the time
Bournemouth in I would guess the late 70's and definitely before February 81 by which time the loco had acquired a yellow headcode panel. No heat Class 47 47320 is probably on a cross country service.
The loco was new as D1801 to Tinsley in January 1965 and most likely a Toton loco at this time.
