The notes for this slide are lost, and with them the location, but still a nice memory of BR's blue era.
I've tried to rescue this slide as I'm unsure what the object is in the foreground. At first I thought it was the pit from a disused loco turntable, but I don't think there were any here. Maybe it is something else.

Class 37, 37172 at Coalville open day in 1979. This loco is looking a little careworn, but had another 22 years service to give. Ray Gell has managed to avoid any people in the shot- I've seen other photos where there were crowds here.
The loco was scrapped by CF Booth, Rotherham, April 2006.

A very welcome return of loco haulage on the Settle and Carlisle took place between October 2003 and September 2004. Booked for 2x Class 37/4 working in multiple with a loco at each end of four Mark 2 air conditioned coaches, they certainly moved quickly. My first run on the service was on 24 October 2003 with 37405 leading 37408 on the 09:47 Leeds to Carlisle.

Thornaby-based Class 37 37008 (originally D6708) has just come off the Huddersfield line with this tanker train heading east. The line the engine is on became little used around this time - by August it was rusting away and was lifted around the end of the year. This was the last shot I have of an engine on this track.
Seen in a sorry state 7 years later at Tinsley - 37008/
