This picture is of LMS 2MT number 46512 in BR Black livery approches Aviemore on the Strathspey Railway. This is the level crossing north of Aviemore. I was expecting the distant signal to pull off but it didn't.

During a trip to SARM in Oak Ridge, TN, on New Years of 2022, we documented dozens of rare locomotives in their collection, including former Southern Railway 2608, the classic Tuxedo paint scheme and faint lettering still visible to the naked eye if you look close enough. After finding new life on the Walden's Ridge Railroad, noted by the WRRX reporting marks, the unit now resides in the deadlines. This string of locomotives and rolling stock was tucked out of the way, however a security guard gave us guided access to the to the otherwise locked away area to grab a few photos. Looking back, that was probably a bold move considering what the site is, however at least we documented it.

The Aberlemno 2, class II Pictish symbol stone.
A battle scene on the opposite face is believed to depict the Battle of Dunnichen, also called the Battle of Nechtansmere in 685 A.D. King Bridei III was leader of the Pictish army.
The helmeted soldiers are believed to be the Anglo Saxons from Northumbria who were defeated outright and lost their lands north of Northumbria such as Fife.
A raven is drawn feeding on a dead Anglo Saxon. The Anglo Saxon King Edwin of Deira may be depicted in this battle scene on horseback or the dead warrior on the ground. Two Anglo Saxons are shown having lost their shields.
The Picts appear to have no helmets. The Pictish horsemen appear to have stirrups so that they can hold a spear and a shield unlike the Anglo Saxons.
The Pictish stategy appears to be three ranks. The first soldier has a sword for close combat, protected with a spear carried by the soldier behind. A third spearman is in reserve.
The stone slab is believed to have been produced two to three centuries after the battle.
The Aberlemno 3, class II Pictish symbol stone, also called the Great Stone. The ornate Celtic cross is impressive with two angels either side, one reading a book.
A hunting scene and the double disc Pictish symbol is visible on the opposite face which is not visible from the roadside. Three trumpeters are also visible.
The meaning of these symbols commonly carved by the Picts is unknown.
Strangely the missionaries or scribes from the Celtic church did not record the meaning of the symbols in their texts. This was even more strange as Celtic christian crosses were engraved on one side of the class II symbol stones or cross slabs.

Ex-LMS Ivatt Class 2 2-6-2T No.41241 once again shows off its unique Keighley and Worth Valley red livery at Sheringham station on the late afternoon of 2nd April 2022. This was the condition in which the Ivatt double-headed the KWVR's Reopening Special with USA 0-6-0T No.30072 on 29th June 1968, and reapplied for the 50th anniversary re-enactment in 2018.
In the background, resident GER Y14 (LNER J15) 0-6-0 No.564 shares company with the Ivatt on Platform 1.

With so much steam leakage it's a wonder the crew could see where they were going, certainly the fireman seems to be peering through the gloom!

Christmas is a-coming and the goose is getting fat. Which means it will soon be time for the GC's Santa Specials again. A mere 10 years ago Ivatt Class 2 2-6-4T 41312 prepares to leave Loughborough with just such a train.
41312 was visiting from the Mid-Hants Railway at the time. I was still a cleaner then but I got a real Christmas treat in the shape of 2 footplate rides, the first on 75014 and the second on this fine engine.
