A very poor shot of a recently overhauled Class 10 at NCB Whittle Colliery 23rd January 1981. due to its "new" number we didnt identify this engine at the time, I now believe it to have been D4069, see pic below:

Former BR Class 10 D4067 is pictured (as 10119) at Loughborough, on the Great Central Railway, on August 30th 2014.
R4521. The Class 10 Pacifics were introduced by the Central South African Railways in 1904. There were 15 of them and they were built by the North British Locomotive Company. They were withdrawn in 1972 and we saw this one, No.744, at Bloemfontein Loco Shed on the 6th September, 1972.
According to E. Talbot in his book ‘Steam from Kenya to the Cape’, 744 was saved for preservation and, by 1975, it was at Springs. Does anyone know if it is still there or, if not, where it is now?

Class 10
Is one of the most powerful classes within Autograss racing. Another of the purpose built classes, this one has a minimum capacity of 2071cc but no upper capacity limit or limit on the modifications made to the engine (except that motorcycle engines may not have forced induction). Twin bike engines are popular with the capacity limits being between 1550cc and 4000cc, as is V8 power.

Class 10 D4092 at the South Yorkshire Railway, Meadowhall on the 27th of August 1989.
D4092 was new to Darnall shed, Sheffield in May 1962, and was withdrawn in September 1968 from New England shed. It was then sold to P D Fuels in South Wales whose livery it wears in this picture. It was purchased by Harry Needle in 1988, it moved to Barrow Hill in 2001 and is still there (2016) although now repainted in BR green it is still non-operational.
This is the former D4068 or No56 in NCB working man's speak. It was formerly at nearby Shilbottle Colliery but was not to be confused with D4056 which remained there as a source of spare parts.

25 of these Siemens built Desiro 2-car DMUs were delivered to BDZ from 2005 to replace older DMU stock and diesel hauled trains. Sets are numbered as pairs with the even numbered car having a small first class area.
One route allocated these is the branch from Radomir to Kjustendil with the infrequent extension to Gjueshevo. Some branch line trains are extended to run under the wires to Sofia.
Here two sets meet up at Kjustendil on 24 October 2018. On the left is 10029 (with 10030 behind) which being a Wednesday is assigned two round trips to Gjueshevo and next working will be train 60265, 14:05 Kjustendil to Gjueshevo. Over to the right is 10017 (with 10018 on the opposite end) which will form train 60213, 14:10 Kjustendil to Radomir.

BR built a variant of the class 08 with Lister Blackstone engines and GEC traction motors and gave them the class 10. Soon deemed as non-standard, all 146 were withdrawn by 1972 when a number were sold to private industry to replace steam locos.
D4067 was bought by the NCB and used in Kent before transfer north to Nailstone Colliery in Leicestershire in 1976 where it was photographed on 6th April 1978. Into the sun with an Instamatic !
The following year it was sold into preservation at the Great Central Railway where it since gained the fictitious number 10119 but has recently reverted to this NCB livery.
The commercial side of the GCR. Now the Down line between Rothley and Quorn is passed for 75mph testing we can offer industry a dedicated test track. Class 10 diesel shunter D4067 is in the yard at Quorn & Woodhouse station after bringing the container wagon from Loughborough. It had failed its brake test the previous day and was being replaced by another wagon. The crane, hired by the contractor carrying out the tests, was used to offload the containers and to set the new wagon on the track .
I had signed on at 07.00 for a shed & cleaning turn but just as I was climbing inside 45305's tender tank in Loughborough shed I was seconded to be secondman on the Jocko on this trip.
Class 04 D2302 & Class 10 D4092 at Barrow Hill 9th of July 2006.

D4092 was withdrawn from New England shed in September 1968, being re-sold to P.D Fuels in South Wales.

End of the line at Kardam as seen on 28 October 2018. The section from Dobrich sees just two trains in and and out. The morning service as seen here is usually worked by a Desiro 2-car with one later in the day by a class 07 loco with the coaches used for the overnight from Dobrich through to Sofia.
10026 with 10025 behind is ready to form train 28221, 10:20 Kardam to Dobrich.
The line continues on from Kardam over the Romanian border to Negru Vodă. Until Summer 2009 there was a seasonal passenger service via this route between București and Varna. The line remains open for transport of liquid petroleum gas tanks.
At the time of my visit in October 2018, the non-electrified branch lines to Kardam and Silistra still saw through loco hauled overnight trains to Sofia. Both trains were allocated class 07 locos built in the early 1970s by Voroshilovgrad in the Soviet Union.
Seen here at Dobrich on the morning of 28 October 2018 is the 3-coach portion off the overnight train from Sofia which includes sleeping cars - train 2367, 07:45 Poveljanovo to Dobrich which arrived in around 10 minutes late. Booked to connect off it is a 2-car Desiro railcar no. 10025 with 10026 behind on train 28220, 09:10 Dobrich to Kardam.
The loco and coaches work a train back from Dobrich to Varna where presumably there is the opportunity to swap locos over and service the carriages. Later in the afternoon, the loco and stock work back up to Dobrich plus a return working to the end of the line at Kardam before heading back to Sofia overnight.
Meanwhile the railcar is booked to work other trains on the line, there is a small allocation at Varna which also covers the one needed for the Silistra branch.

More test images from the Fujifilm X10. Just seeing how the AE Bracketing Drive function worked out. Bit disappointed there wasnt more than one over and one under bracketed shots. Five, seven or nine would be better. Mind you storing three images on a Class10 SD card still took around 5 seconds.
This image processed RAW through SilkyPix to JPEGs, then Photomatix Pro and finally tweaked and cropped in Lightroom.

Met Cam class 101 DMU Unit 829 (what I think is DMBS 51246 nearest camera) approaching Colton South Junction near York - c.07/1994.

At the time of this visit , the line from Kjustendil to Gjueshevo saw two round trips on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sunday. This basically became the centrepiece of my trip plan. The line climbs up into hilly terrain working its way close to the border with the Republic of Macedonia. Stations are all unstaffed with the exception of Gjueshevo itself. Hopefully the Red Cap employed here, doesn't need to be in work on the 4 days there are no passenger trains.
Seen here is 2-car Desiro railcar 10030 with 10029 behind waiting departure of train 60264, 15:55 Gjueshevo to Kjustendil on 24 October 2018.
Note the long line of stored coaching stock indicating there was probably once some freight traffic on the line.
Some rail atlases show a projected extension of the line from Gjueshevo over the border into the Republic of Macedonia and has been formally agreed on by Governments of both countries.
