Unknown class 33 at Birmingham New Street in 1978

On board the 16.30 from Bishop Auckland to Stanhope. There was a lady with two children further up the carriage and five adults in the other carriage of the unit. It was disappointing that more people were not travelling on this community rail service - Use it or lose it!

Which was exactly what happened as this train service has since ceased to run.

I could get away with getting on this train now, but it was pushing it a bit in 1984 to be on a Portsmouth Harbour - Newcastle SAGA charter. 37 271 was the engine, which worked from New St to Derby, where it failed moments after this photo was taken.

The latest from Prasad Heavy Industries, the Toblerone class battlecruiser is the next generation of naval warfare. This vessel takes the role of a stealth warship, with the firepower of a battleship. In short, we've built the single most powerful warship afloat.

Armament consists of 200 VLS systems scattered around the deck of the vessel. In addition, there are two 20in guns turrets, and a twin 16in turret located on the stern. The ship also contains sophisticated radar and electronic warfare systems, all housed in the state-of-the-art hull.

And it's named after chocolate.

On Friday July 14th, the Massey Air Museum concluded the 2023 one-week summer course for high school students, ‘Introduction to Aviation Engineering.’ The five students came from Kent County High School, Worton, MD and First State Military Academy, Clayton, DE.

The course is offered at no cost to local high school age students who may be considering a career in aviation, whether as a technician, a pilot or an engineer. In addition to classroom studies, the program includes learning the basics of flight control by guiding each student in how to make and fly rubber band model aircraft and build and launch small rockets.

The course offers a variety of flight experiences including in-flight problem solving. Each student received individual flights in a Piper Cherokee (four place, cabin light aircraft) and a Stearman biplane (open cockpit, tandem seat, WW2 military trainer).
