This is a bunker in Chowder Bay, Mosman near the Beehive casemate. There is a small gauge tram track on the left that was used to haul munitions to the artillery. Inspired by Sydney WWII history
corn chowder -- the finished product isn't shown but it was tasty!!! a can of butter beans, 2 cups veggie broth, two cups soy milk, sage, some vegan butter, green peps, celery, baby potatoes, garlic cloves, onions and corn - cook all then later throw in the broth, milk, beans with liquid and sage. mmmm mmmm good

Gotta try this place. The third most common phrase about this place on yelp is "hole-in-the-wall" and for good reason. Seats about 10 people at the most and let me quote a review for you.
Dear Ridiculously Hard-working Ladies Who Work At Yamo,
Please be my new moms. Don't get me wrong, I love mine a lot, but she simply lacks the kitchen prowess to turn out bomb-ass mango chicken or mushroom tofu. I'm willing to make the switch. Please come to my studio, which will remind you of your cooking space at Yamo because it's approximately the same size, and stir-fry up some of your house noodles with fried garlic and beef. I could eat it all day, every day.

...a lovely winter soup containing leeks, cauliflower, potato, and cream.
White Chowder
Sautee in a stock pan:
1 large leek, washed and chopped
1/3 c. butter
Add:
3 c. mild broth
3./4 c. heavy cream
Add:
1 baking potato, peeked and diced
1-1/2 c. cauliflower, chopped
a pinch of nutmeg or cloves
Simmer until vegetables are tender.
Add salt and pepper to taste and serve.
I typically don't eat potatoes because they metabolize like candy, but sometimes you just need a treat.
This is based on a recipe I found a few years ago, but I've altered it a bit, so here's my version.
- 1 tablespoon canola oil
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 14 ounces extra firm tofu, diced
- 2 tablespoons soy margarine
- 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 celery ribs, minced (or dried celery)
- 4 cups vegetable stock
- Italian spices, dried minced onion, nutritional yeast, etc. to taste
- 6 medium potatoes, peeled and diced
- 2 1/2 cups rice milk (or soy milk)
- 2 tablespoons unbleached white flour
- 2 tablespoons arrowroot powder
1. Heat the oil and soy sauce in a skillet. Stir in tofu and sauté until browned on all sides. (I make vegetable broth using bouillon, so I also do that while the tofu is browning.)
2. Remove from heat and set aside. Meanwhile, heat margarine in a large pot. Add garlic and celery and stir over medium-low heat for a few minutes.
3. Add vegetable broth and turn up heat to medium-high. Add spices, nutritional yeast, etc. if desired (here's where you would add the dried celery if using that instead of fresh).
4. When almost boiling, add potatoes. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
5. Add tofu.
6. Whisk flour into 1 cup milk until dissolved. Add flour-milk mixture into broth.
7. Whisk arrowroot powder into 1 1/2 cups milk and add to broth, stirring well until thickened.
8. Add any additional seasonings to taste.

I ordered a clam chowder, which is one of my flickr friends' recommendation. It tasted some original spice or something, and so good!

The public amenities at Clifton Gardens, Balmoral Baths, Balmoral Tramshed (Hunter Park) and Rosherville Reserve were upgraded in 2010. The work was funded from income received through paid parking.
The former buildings were in much need of renovation. Their dated design and aged condition no longer met the needs of the community.
The new amenities offer increased natural light and ventilation, communal beach showers (hot showers at Balmoral Baths), baby change and disabled facilities, updated interior layout and much improved fittings and finishes. These improvements will make the buildings more usable, easier to keep clean and more sustainable to operate and maintain.
My family at the Santa Cruz clam chowder festival this last weekend. There was some yummy clam chowder to be had on the Boardwalk on Saturday.
