Day.4
Today was a very tiring Friday as usual, and I almost ate nothing throughout the day except for chocolate at my friends house, a lot of chocolate lol (I'm close to getting sick of it for a few month's now xD). But luckily I got to eat two of my favorite foods for dinner at home, Clam Chowder and Spaghetti mmm..=d love that stuff
From the CSIRO cookbook via the September Good Taste magazine. Wow! Full of flavour and enjoyed by all! Might have to get the book...

This was my overnight wild-camp on the Lincolnshire side of the river Humber ("where sky, water and Lincolnshire meet" as Philip Larkin wrote) I think I may be a bit south-west of Chowder Ness as on turning the corner (in the dark) after walking out of Barton-0n-Humber this was the first bit of flat ground with camping potential since walking over the Humber Bridge. Yesterday morning I set off from the start of the Yorkshire Wolds Way beneath the Hull side of the bridge on the Humber Bridge Link Walk a 34 mile route following a figure of eight configuration roughly half on each side of the river. Starting out at 11.30am I managed to walk 21 miles to get here at 8pm. This morning I have another 13 miles to walk and will finish with a south to north crossing of the Humber Bridge.
clam chowder, anyone? Another entry for the food moly_x group 57. It's been snowing again these past few days, so something warm might be nice...

My brother had a hankerin' for some clam chowder. I usually only make it for Christmas since we traditionally do a seafood theme (we have relatives in Boston who send fresh lobster every year). But, I decided to take the challenge.
half & half
butter
salt pork
salt & pepper
marjoram
red potatoes
celery
parsley
yellow onions
clams (whole & minced)
crab
garlic
corn starch
This was an excellent soup at Fleming's with as much seafood as chowder. We also had the best steak that we've had in a long time. My Filet Mignon was cooked perfectly and melted in my mouth. My husband loved the creamed spinach. Although Fleming's is expensive, we spent about $150 for two with no wine, the amazing food makes it a good value. Fleming's is the best steak place we've found since Bistecca closed in Scottsdale.

The now-traditional shot of John and his stack of empty sample cups. Each black one represents another ten cups. The boy put away 41 this year.
John, who's very familiar with 2-ounce sample cups of beer, is certain that the chowder samples were 2 ounces each, totalling a heroic 82 ounces consumed in a two-hour period. I'm not exactly skeptical, but I would like to see some granularity in the estimation methodology before I concede the point. I reckon that each of those containers is about a quarter-cup, meaning that each portion of actual chowder would have had to have filled the cup right to the brim. In practice, the cups I got were anywherre from half to 3/4 full.
Nonetheless, he can claim to have eaten a half (freaking) gallon of clam chowder, with an extremely healthy 18-ounce margin of error.
(I take that back: nothing associated with this endeavor can be considered even remotely healthy.)
Oh, yeah...and we stopped off at the Middle of Nowhere Diner on our way home for a proper meal...where John ate a "victory lap" cup of chowder. So add another 8 ounces to his total for the day, and suddenly the potential goal of doing a full gallon next year doesn't seem so far-fetched.
(Medically-contraindicated, yes. But far-fetched: no.)
As for me, I was the clear lightweight of the group. I chose to implement my idea from last year: any booth that does not provide a spoon receives a 30 second grace period in which they can realize their error and provide me with the correct utensil, after whih they are disqualified from competition. That knocked almost a dozen chowders out of the running.
I also chose not to be a hero; I didn't finish any chowder that didn't make a terrific first impression. So put me down for a dozen, maybe. I was focusing way more on the picture-taking, anyway. I still got value for my money.
And best of all, having eaten maybe one bowl of chowder total, I had a very good appetite for chocolate chip pancakes, seafood bisque, and clam cakes at the Middle of Nowhere later in the day.
The public amenities at Clifton Gardens, Balmoral Baths, Balmoral Tramshed (Hunter Park) and Rosherville Reserve were upgraded in 2010. The work was funded from income received through paid parking.
The former buildings were in much need of renovation. Their dated design and aged condition no longer met the needs of the community.
The new amenities offer increased natural light and ventilation, communal beach showers (hot showers at Balmoral Baths), baby change and disabled facilities, updated interior layout and much improved fittings and finishes. These improvements will make the buildings more usable, easier to keep clean and more sustainable to operate and maintain.
A good friend discovered this little nook a few years ago... the Splash Cafe at Pismo Beach has the best clam chowder on the west coast.
I had really been wanting to try this recipe, it came out really good, the boys really liked it! Since it was a little chilly this evening it was perfect! I used frozen corn, fresh was .79 an ear, the recipe called for 2 cups, which is about 6 ears and frozen was on sale $1 a bag. The thing that drew me to this recipe was it was healthy, no added junk or cream of this and that, the creaminess comes from nonfat milk and Yukon gold potatoes.
Here is the original recipe I pinned on Pintrest: www.wholeliving.com/133172/white-cheddar-corn-chowder

From this recipe from Pioneer Woman. If you can't find canned green chilies (as I couldn't) I would not recommend substituting a jalapeno, as I did! It was way too spicy, but still delicious! The next day was even better with rice to cut the spice a bit.
