Day 115 of 365 - Toda,y April 28 is “Save The Frogs Day”. This day was first declared in 2009, by a conservation organization set up to generate awareness of the extinction crisis facing many of the world’s amphibians. The goal is to raise awareness of the rapid disappearance of frog species worldwide. The Save the Frogs is a nonprofit organization based in Manassas, Virginia. It was founded in May 2008 by Kerry Kriger and scientists, educators, policymakers, and naturalists dedicated to protecting the world’s amphibian species through environmental education, scientific research, legal defense and the acquisition of critical habitat. Nearly one-third of the world’s 6,485 amphibian species are threatened with extinction, and at least 150 species have completely disappeared since 1980, and most people don’t know about it, Habitat destruction is the primary threat to frogs in lowland areas. But the deadly skin disease caused by a chytrid fungus is spreading through mountainous regions worldwide, driving frog species to extinction within months of its arrival. Some simple everyday things everyone can do to help save frogs, include not using pesticides in and around the home (chemicals that get into rivers and ponds are not compatible with a healthy ecosystem for frogs), not eating frogs, not buying wild frogs as pets, and lobbying politicians for funding for research and scholarships to train herpetologists. To celebrate today visit your Zoo and check out the frogs, what a fun time for everyone!
Note: I took this picture at Norfolk Virginia Zoo in the outside pond area which is filled with frogs, turtles, fish, ducks, geese, etc. I love my Zoo!!!.
Another great turnout for this the 3rd Xborder Challenge run from Gretna to Carlisle, it got quite hot as we neared the finish but was still pleased with time sub 40 .

We took a trip to Johnson's Shutins State Park today. This is the first time I have been there during summer, we usually go early spring or late fall. Because of the different aspects of summer it was quite challenging to take photos. Some of the challenges are: 1) There are a LOT of people there. 2) They close the area at 8:00 PM sop there isn't much in the way of good light to be used. 3) Did I mention there are a lot of people there? This image owes about as much to post processing as it does to original photography, especailly the light part.....

Landscape: Abandoned - Capture an image of that which others have forgotten. It may be the last image before its gone from us forever.
Sometimes I get an idea for a picture and then I try and work out how to achieve it.
In this case it was how to best capture this glass rose set inside blown glass. I'm sure you can work out for yourselves what I did.
Canon 5D Mk II with a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM lens.

Day 103 ~ Another Challenge ~ What Would You Do? Kim Klassen's Beyond Layers e-Course. UNIS Junior School hosts the Cardboard Challenge 2014. Inspired by the short film, `Caine’s Arcade,’ the Global Cardboard Challenge is a worldwide celebration of child creativity. Kids are challenged to create and build using cardboard, recycled materials and imagination.

I am participating in the Strada Easel January Challenge. Quite a commitment - a painting a day for 31 days! It has to be a subject that you are looking at. Not from a photo. And it must be painted AND posted that day! Currently there are 876 participants from all over the world. But as the days go by, people drop out. Five lucky winners from the remaining participants will be chosen at the end of the challenge and will get to select a Strada Easel of their choice!
The rules: Do a painting or drawing from life each day (i.e. a work of art done while you are looking at the subject from life-not from a photo or imagination). These subjects may include still life, interiors, figure, and landscapes.

It wasn't... hah!
The shell was given to me years ago by a co-worker who had a summer place on the Cape. I wonder if you could find a whelk shell of this size out there these days. This one is 7 1/2 inches from end to end.
