It's 193 stairs to the top of the press box at Michie Stadium and all the new cadets, including these cadets assigned to 4th Squad, 4th Platoon, Company F, made the upward trek on July 15 during the Goeke Challenge. After the run to the top, the squads sang a verse of the Alma Mater and performed 79 mountain climbers in remembrance of the fallen West Point graduates in the Global War on Terrorism. The Goeke Challenge is the squad-level event that marks the halfway point of Cadet Basic Training for the Class of 2015. Stations are sprawled throughout West Point on a 5-mile course where they are tested on all the training they’ve received to date. The operative word, however, is teamwork and building esprit de corps as each event requires the squads to work together—whether rowing across Luske Reservoir on a Zodiac or negotiating several obstacles at Hayes Gymnasium on the Indoor Obstacle Course Test. The event is named in honor of 1st Lt. Christopher Goeke, Class of 2008, who was killed in action a year ago while serving in Afghanistan with the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment. This model of HMS Challenger was made for the Museum in 1972 for an exhibition. The H.M.S. Challenger embarked from Portsmouth, England on December 21, 1872 and changed the course of scientific history. Physicists, chemists, and biologists collaborated with expert navigators to map the sea. This interdisciplinary spirit has continued to the present day. During the 4 year journey, the voyages circumnavigated the globe, sounded the ocean bottom to a depth of 26,850 feet, found many new species, and provided collections for scores of biologists. Model made by HJ Boyd, Edinburgh, 1972.
Remember Challenge #1? Well this is what happened:
Once Kiana and I were talking about photography and how the majority of her photos are portraits of kiana herself or her sister, and that she should be experiencing other stuff too, then we came up with the idea of a weekly challenge which is a kind of photo contest as you might have seen elsewhere.
Every week Kiana & I decide on a new theme, and then we interpret this theme and upload one photo in response at the end of the week. All flickr users are invited to give their constructive opinions and the winner will be decided based on their ratings.
For the previous challenge we picked "Automobile" as our first theme and arguably I won that very first challenge! “Graffiti” is the current theme so now you're our judge; tell us which one's the winner.
The WeeklyChallenge is sponsored by [MooShot] which is providing all the prizes!
Here's what Kiana submitted for this week's challenge.
Chelsea Flower show 2009 ... I was lucky to visit this incredible show again this year. Fascinating how the creativity in gardening seems to never end. Breathtaking flower arrangements and fantastic solutions for small, urban gardens. One cannot imagine what is possible even when there's only a few square metres you have to build a garden in.
I'm stunned by how the plant/flower nurseries got their "fosterlings" in such great shape exactly on the date. I wish I would have had more energy to see and photograph more.... This is only a collection of what there really was.
Layering of paint and textures and then a stencil of a unfurling flower.
Experimenting with stong contrasts of tints and tones.

My photography challenge this month is to shoot my grandaughter in her dutch costume at least somewhere in the vicinity of some beautiful tulips. In this shot she had spotted a dog, (Puppy to her) and was off and running. Oh well, another day:)
The younger black bull kept challenging the Hereford. They tustled of and on for about 10 minutes. Eventually the Hereford seem to say, "this is a nuisance and annoying and there is all this green grass and frankly, you're bugging me". He walked across the road to graze some more. Black bull followed him and kept bellowing and lowering his head, only to be ignored. Finally he went off the smell the rear end of a cow and then he was happy again.

My Husband thought of another Challenge drawing your name by making the very last letters of your name really large and gradually shinking the letters as they begin with your name, plus divide your paper into the same number of segments as the letter in your name and use tangle patterns that starts with the letters in your name;
D-Drupe
A-Alps
V-Vip(SB)
