When I saw this middle aged elephant in chains in Guruvayoor fort, I was reminded of Avaiyar's vinyaga agaval which starts like ...
சீதக்களப செந்தாமரைப்பூம்
பாதச்சிலம்புகள் பல் இசை பாட.....
This would translate to ..
The anklets
on the red lotus feet
of the cool baby elephant
sing many songs.
But this baby elephant's anklets was of a different kind!!!. The elephant was rather lamenting its fate and was always thinking about its lost mother from forest.
People to cleanse their life sponsor animals in this abode of god where in these lovely, majestic and magnanimous animlas are made to rot.
Elephants are also employed in the timber industry where they toil..just because they are born as elephants.
For all the happiness and service these elephants do ...neither god or man can repay them...
Taken in the elephant fort, Guruvayoor, Kerala.
Plenty of leaves on the grass as you walk along the Green Chain Walk - crunching through them was rather nice.
Two brothers and sisters, going to the river for the bath. She went to school in just one day; their mother, father works in stone workers, they live at tents home made of polythene at the bank of Piyain River, Jaflong, Sylhet, Bangladesh.
.....a view of the Inner Harbour in Victoria, BC seen in the sunshine a few weeks ago!
The iconic blue bridge is shown (slated to be torn down soon for a new modern safer earthquake proof bridge!
I love the shadows of the chainlink marine fence and the reflections of the boats.....
This oceanside walkway is a perfect way to walk along the inner harbour from downtown to the West Bay Marina......and there are several pubs and fine dining stops along the way if one is so inclined...
Markarian's Chain is a stretch of galaxies that forms part of the Virgo Galaxy Cluster. When viewed from Earth, the galaxies lie along a smoothly curved line. The two brightest galaxies in the chain from left to right are M86 and M84. At bottom left of this image is M87, also known as "Virgo A" an elliptical galaxy with a linear diameter of 120,000 light years. Virgo Galaxy Cluster contains about 1300 galaxies and lies about 50 million light-years distant.

Golden Chain Tree blossoms not quite ready to open. Another hand-held closeup with my new IS-1, 850nm filter, auto-focus. The black background is the stream the tree hangs over, a very good dark background for IR.

One of the most interesting things to work with!
First permanent bridge built over the Danube in Budapest. Shot from the funicular as we went down the hill towards the bridge.
Why oh why was it necessary to chain up the cistern in the public loo in Southerness? Do people really nick these things, and if they do, why on earth....???

Quite a heavy snow in Yakiyama today. The yellow cab truck, just visible on the right was jack knifed. It blocked the road just enough to make everyone stop and once stopped going up its pretty hard to get momentum going up again without chains. I went back down and took the bypass.

Ball And Chain -Janis Joplin
Sittin’ down by my window,
Honey, lookin’ out at the rain.
Oh, Lord, Lord, sittin’ down by my window,
Baby, lookin’ out at the rain.
Somethin’ came along, grabbed a hold of me, honey,
And it felt just like a ball and chain.
Honey, that’s exactly what it felt like,
Honey, just dragging me down.
And I say, oh, whoa, whoa, now hon’, tell me why,
Why does every single little tiny thing I hold on to go wrong ?
Yeah it goes wrong, yeah.
And I say, oh, whoa, whoa, now babe, tell me why,
Does every thing, every thing.
Hey, here you gone today, I wanted to love you,
I just wanted to hold you, I said, for so long,
Yeah! Alright! Hey!
Love’s got a hold on me, baby,
Feels like a ball and chain.
Now, love’s just draggin’ me down, baby,
Feels like a ball and chain.
I hope there’s someone out there who could tell me
Why the man I love wanna leave me in so much pain.
Yeah, maybe, maybe you could help me, come on, help me!
And I say, oh, whoa, whoa, now hon’, tell me why,
Now tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me why, yeah.
And I say, oh, whoa, whoa, whoa, when I ask you,
When I need to know why, c’mon tell me why, hey hey hey,
Here you’ve gone today,
I wanted to love you and hold you
Till the day I die.
I said whoa, whoa, whoa!!
And I say oh, whoa, whoa, no honey
It ain’t fair, daddy it ain’t fair what you do,
I see what you’re doin’ to me and you know it ain’t fair.
And I say oh, whoa whoa now baby
It ain’t fair, now, now, now, what you do
I said hon’ it ain’t fair what, hon’ it ain’t fair what you do.
Oh, here you gone today and all I ever wanted to do
Was to love you
Honey you can still hear me rock and roll the best,
Only it ain’t roll, no, no, no, no, no.
Sittin’ down by my window,
Lookin’ out at the rain.
Lord, Lord, Lord, sittin’ down by my window,
Lookin’ out at the rain, see the rain.
Somethin’ came along, grabbed a hold of me,
And it felt like a ball and chain.
Oh this can’t be in vain
And I’m gonna tell you one more time, yeah, yeah!
And I say oh, whoa whoa, now baby
This can’t be, no this can’t be in vain,
And I say no no no no no no no no, whoa,
And I say whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
Now now now now now now now now now no no not in vain
Hey, hope there is someone that could tell me
Hon’, tell me why love is like
Just like a ball
Just like a ball
Baaaaaaalllll
Oh daddy, daddy, daddy, daddy, daddy, daddy, daddy, daddy
And a chain.
Yeah.
