A bracelet of seven links of worn bicycle chain from a rusty old 10-speed bike, size 7. The chain links are stamped with the insignia "HP".
This bracelet may be of particular interest to cyclists and bicycle enthusiasts.
You could say that the National Guard bridges the gap between Citizen and Soldier, community and military. However, 10 Soldiers of the North Carolina National Guard’s 878th Engineer Company really built a bridge when they deployed to Fort Jackson, S.C., April 10 - 11. The engineers brought more than 100 years of combined civilian and military experience completing a bridge over a creek at Legion Lake. Not just mechanical skill with five-ton skid steers, generators, augers, chain saws but the professional’s touch building among trees and wetlands without destroying either. “We seek out projects like this, it is good training,” said Warrant Officer Timothy Calton, project leader. I saw this chain hanging on a bike rack between UC and Lawson Hall and initially thought it was there to secure the rack to the ground. Turns out there is a padlock (attached below the frame) leading me to believe someone uses this beast to lock up their bike - very Pee Wee's Big Adventure!
Western has bike racks awaiting cyclist all over campus. Come on, be the "chainge" (nyuk nyuk) and do something good for your body and our air quality.
Angler Eric Packard took a few casts on St Mary’s Lake on 10/7. I got a late start and had little hope in catching much at mid day, but it’s Fall and things are changing. Dead grasses floating and stained water in some areas. I ended up catching 11 largemouth bass, four pickerel (biggest was 25.5”) and a small yellow perch. Catching most fish on a jerk bait, a few on a square billed crankbait, and two bass on a shaky head jig. Catching in stump fields, over dying grass and off points.
Chains made for an easy climb up to the trailhead in the trucks. This time of year, chains make all the difference for easy access!
