One faulty link in a chain and it's all over!
A couple of weeks ago I had to replace my old chain and sprockets which had done close to 20,000 km. The chain kept slipping off the sprocket. So I got some reasonable chain off bikes at the tip and stuck it all together. Unfortunately I didn't have a joining clip and my chain breaker... broke as I was inserting the final pin! I got the pin in but knew it was a dud job. Then on the way home from work the chain snapped and messed up the derailleur. I repaired the chain and tried to straighten the derailleur. It didn't work and when I shifted to first the chain got caught in the wheel and ripped out several spokes! Damn. The Long bike is now off the road indefinitely!

The first bridge across the Danube in Budapest, it was designed by the English engineer William Tierney Clark in 1839, after Count István Széchenyi's initiative in the same year, with construction supervised locally by Scottish engineer Adam Clark (no relation). It opened in 1849, thus became the first bridge in the Hungarian capital. The twice two lions at the abutments were added in 1852.

The Széchenyi Chain Bridge is a suspension bridge that spans the River Danube between Buda and Pest, the western and eastern sides of Budapest, the capital of Hungary. Designed by the English Engineer William Tierney Clark, it was the first permanent bridge across the Danube in Hungary, and was opened in 1849.
It is anchored on the Pest side of the river to Széchenyi (formerly Roosevelt) Square, adjacent to the Gresham Palace and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and on the Buda side to Adam Clark Square, near the Zero Kilometre Stone and the lower end of the Castle Hill Funicular, leading to Buda Castle.

The Chain Shop was originally from Colley Gate, Cradley Heath in the Black Country. At the end of the nineteenth century 90% of all the chain workshops in England and Wales were in the five chain making towns of Cradley, Cradley Heath, Old Hill, Quarry Bank and Netherton. Noah Hingley's iron works built the anchor and chain for the Titanic, just down the road from where this place was. Black country folk say that the anchor was the only thing that worked properly on the ship.
I can't decide if this is worth looking at or not. I like playing with depth of field. I like that the chain link in this shot creates a pattern I've never seen before.
This rusty chain was lying in the bush where I was walking today... such relics always make me wonder about the last person to use them, many years ago.
Some chained up rail road tracks left to rust away.

This mine was built in 1858. In 1892 there was a big explosion and 160 people died. The explosion was caused by mining gasses.
The company lasted for decades. Per year 320.000 tons of coal was excavated from deep deep down below. In 1969 the company shut down and it has been abandoned since.

My bicycle chain broke last weekend in the middle of the Trossachs ... I just figured out how to fix it and ended up getting distracted. My bike clearly needs some TLC. ;-)
Originally was part of the coastal radar station network designed to detect aircraft. According to Wikipedia, this one used to be located in Canewdon and is said to be the only one left in its unmodified form.
The site itself is now owned by BAe Systems
