The cassowary is an endangered species, and road traffic is one of the major threats. They can grow 2m tall. (We didn't see any.)
Shown for the Incident Light photography group's current project 'Caution' - December 2011.

Not the most common sign seen on a pub table, but then the Dog and Fox on Wimbledon High Street is not an average pub, and not every pub has a riding yard as its next door neighbour.

The street I live on only has one stop sign. The 2 side streets that meet up with my street have only yield signs as they don't get much traffic probably due to the fact that all the side streets on one side are dead ends.
That is why we were surprised to find not only a new 4-way stop sign pop up on our street but also a roundabout. One of these side streets is a dead end...as in NO traffic. The other side of the street is a small church that only has cars parked at it on Sunday.
In order to get one of these built you need to get signatures from people that live in the neighborhood. Plus you need money. A friend that lives a few streets over has been trying to get something similar built on her street. A street that has so much traffic that accidents in front of her house are common. But if you can believe it...she is unable to get enough signatures. The consensus is that the church probably had something to do with its construction. As the neighbors that actually live on this corner are the ones that put up this sign.
The roundabout is such an eyesore. Nothing was done to make it at least look pretty as I have seen in other neighborhoods. It is just a bit concrete circle filled with dirt in the middle of the street.

better than being stuck indoors
One night on my holiday we revisited a place in the Algarve area of Portugal where we stayed at last time we visited Portugal back in 2002. Next to a coastline lined with huge boulders to protect against coastal erosion was a pebbled path and towards the end of this path lay this caution sign, presumably warning against a severe drop if you fell over the wall. I wanted to take a picture of this caution sign next to the lamp illuminating it, but the outcome was completely unexpected. Whether due to natural shake, or maybe I had a drink or two that night, the lights from the lamp appear to be revolving around each other, as if they were UFOs or some other unexplained phenomena. With this particular light effect next to a caution sign, I thought the title was appropriate ^_^
Taken in Galveston on a cold Friday afternoon in January - the first time I had visited the island since Hurricane Ike.
This was a crumbled pier with a pickup truck sitting on it, long abandonded, along the seawall.
Texture from sick little monkey.

Someone had a sense of humor at the Survivor bonspiel in Souris, MB and replaced the hockey puck with a curling rock on this caution sign.

Caution? That's nice, but it's not terribly informative about what sort of caution one might exercise behind this door. Perhaps "don't enter w/out a rad suit?" or maybe "Bill Bixby not allowed!"
Caution: Viewing this might be disturbing to you. Open with Caution.
A dead whale has washed up on the beach at Port Parham, north of Adelaide.
It was floating in on the 1/10/09 and became stuck in sand 5/19/09.
This is believed to be a bryde's whale and is about 18 metres long.
(Up to 100 Tons).
Update: 7/10/09 It might actually be a be a young fin whale.
You could see the carcass floating in St Vincent Gulf from houses at Pt Parham.
The last few days its been sort of floating in and out and up and down with the tides.
The South Australian Museum says it will help dispose of the carcass.
It's a bit smelly, and very big.

A lot of processing done on this one... wish I could remember what I did!
I do know the last step was to tone down the sign on the right, as it was still bright orange and I wanted it to have the same feel as the rest of the shot. It's also a horizontal crop from a vertical original. Though I like the original, I thought this version was "tighter".
That's Fi silhouetted against the (dull and overcast) sky in the background. You can just make out the second bridge that leads up to the motte on the right hand side.
Taken at the ruins of the Norman castle at Castle Acre. We'd stopped there on the way home to get some "stock" shots to go on the directory site Fi runs: www.castleacre.net/
Haven't got anything of mine on the gallery there at the moment; I should really go and process some of the general views I took rather than the weird stuff like this shot!
