The canals of Venice are so busy and congested that the gondoliers must exercise caution when approaching another canal. The crowds in this beautiful city can be overwhelming but here is a romantic and solitary moment.

Weeds growing from cracks between paving stones would pose an enormous challenge for ants trying to negotiate them!
Jan and I spent a lovely hour or so by the canal recently and I couldn't resist her smile. And yes, we did enjoy a cup of tea at the 'Barley Mow'

Previously unpublished shot from August 2018. An image that I edited in black and white at the time and I was never happy with the result. Sometimes a shot needs to be in colour and not because it is in itself colourful. The details just got lost without colour. I hope you like the result.

When the Triton Fountain and the surrounding plaza was undergoing renovations - they were just adding some finishing touches here (the place was inaugurated just 2 weeks later), it was supposed to be a high fence around the whole place but strong winds had taken its toll so for a while they had to make due with this solution...
The fountain itself dated back to 1959, and is made in the modernist style, but was in really bad shape by the time work started on it 2015. €2 million was allocated to the cost - but when work began the fountain turned out to be in even worse shape then predicted and the final cost was doubled.
