when Elsie was staying with us she found it difficult to sleep on her first night. I told her to close her eyes and talked her through a guided meditation, a meadow walk which went down by a stream . . . and she fell asleep. Later on she was woken up by foxes. You are going to have to do another spell on me, Grangran, she said . . . a different one. So I talked her through a meditation which went to the sea shore

Porcelain is a ceramic material made by heating materials, generally including kaolin, in an oven to temperatures between 1,200 and 1,400 °C (2,200 and 2,600 °F). The toughness, strength, and translucence of porcelain, relative to other types of pottery, arises mainly from vitrification and the formation of the mineral mullite within the body at these high temperatures.
Porcelain was first developed in China around 2,000 years ago, then slowly spread to other East Asian countries, and finally Europe and the rest of the world. Its manufacturing process is more demanding than that for earthenware and stoneware, the two other main types of pottery, and it has usually been regarded as the most prestigious type of pottery for its delicacy, strength, and its white colour. It combines well with both glazes and paint, and can be modelled very well, allowing a huge range of decorative treatments in tablewares, vessels and figurines. non guardo più la tv, così, spesso sto alla finestra ad aspettare che le nuvole si diano battaglia.
la maggior parte delle volte, però, è solo una lunga attesa senza soddisfazione, dove s’impongono idrogeno e ossigeno con il loro noioso monoscopio blu, dai toni giallognoli verso l’orizzonte. i nonni dicono serva per calibrare la noia, così ritaglio figure dalla carta da appiccicare ai vetri. sono animali, piante e qualche nuvola, e proiettano ombre che si spostano sul pavimento o sugli arredi.
ogni tanto mi indicano di aprire un cassetto o un anta, perché sono curiosi di sapere cosa si nasconda dentro. grazie a loro, ho ritrovato la maglietta comprata al concerto dei dream theater. anche un vecchio diario, nascosto in fondo alla scatola dei maglioni che non ho mai avuto il coraggio di buttare. ora l’ho appoggiato per terra, e sto aspettando che le ombre si spostino ad indicarmi da che pagina iniziare a leggerlo.

Vagrant Casting
I sat down by the river today,
reading a book
about nothing
and tried to find
the compass that I lost
so long ago.
I looked to the left,
and there were the homeless men,
who live there behind the library.
I was in their home,
sitting on their cement furniture,
trying to find myself.
I wondered how many times they sat in this very spot
hoping to find whatever it was that they had lost
or never found.
They were
fishing for food,
not recreation and
I hoped they hadn’t been waiting too long.
I looked out on the river and saw a group of happy people
sitting in their 25 footer
pretending to fish
while they drank cola,
ate cold chicken
and stuffed foot long hot dogs down their traps.
They laughed at each other's fifty dollar words
and they all had cheerleader smiles that were
painted on with a deep crimson crayon.
When a fish ended up on one of their lines
I felt a rush of sadness in my gut.
Mouths full of chicken,
bellies full of acidic soda,
they brought the now meaningless creature
into their boat.
They laughed and screamed and I wanted to choke the lot of them.
I looked back and forth.
The homeless men.
The boat.
The homeless men.
I got up to leave,
for now I was intruding on someone else’s pain.
I left eight quarters inside the couch cushions.
and so today I turned 28. One of the most essential things about birthdays is having the people you love around you. I've cast my net pretty well - most of my friends who could make it last night - were there to celebrate my Birthday and I couldn't have asked for more.
To all my flickr friends who were at the meet last night - thank you for the wishes and the song ;)
