Learn about the wonderful world of molten bronze. Participants will produce three bronzes using a different method for each. Techniques demonstrated will be: Lost wax - make your own wax original the first day of class, to be cast in ceramic shell; Green sand casting - each participant will make a 3” x 5” plaque, to be cast using cope and drag green sand casting. Experimental resin-bonded sand-cutting, drilling and gluing sections of bonded sand together, then casting the negative spaces, resulting in a unique assortment of unknown forms and shapes. In keeping with tradition, the workshop will culminate with a blast from the shop cannon!

This will be the central body of what will become Mark Jackson's ultrasonic drill. Mark got the design from NASA. Once completed it should be capable of drilling holes in really hard stuff like gemstones. After tapping both ends Ed used a form tool to smooth the contours of this aluminum casting that Mark poured at his shop.
We've had a busy day today, I'm still struggling with my sinuses but Chap is finally better so we made it to all our normal Monday actvities for the first time in ages! Afterwards I took him to a local farm to see all the animals. He loved the aviary and the guinea pigs :)
At the park this afternoon the sun was casting really long shadows. It was the first time Chap has really noticed shadows and he was fascinated!
